I need ideas! (Patreon)

Greetings Bosses!

There's something I wanted to run by all of you to get your suggestions and ideas on, and I'd love your input if you have the time.


Remember the Check Your Privilege rant I did just recently? Well, I want to start doing more videos like that. Rants that are actually short shows in themselves, highlighting news events and social issues. And I want to do them as frequently as I can.


Here's where you come in. During these shows, I would like to have a scroller on the bottom of the screen, listing all of YOU! I love my bosses and I want you guys to be recognized. However, I obviously can't use your Patreon names because most of you appear to be using your real names for that. I could use your furry names but, A) Not all of you ARE furries and B) I'd have to find a way to update a database of nicknames every month.


So, what should I do? Any ideas? I had the idea that maybe the best thing to do would be to list a last name and first initial only, such as "D. Hicks".


What do you think? Do you have any ideas? Should I list names at all? Let me know, guys!

There's going to be a lot of people with different thoughts on the matter. Wanting their real names, just part of their real names, any type of alias, not at all. There's not going to be a global answer that everyone will like, so it might be best to have people tell you what name to use on an individual basis? Like, ONCE, to avoid you having to update a list regularly. Unless of course there's some easy way to keep track of it all, but would have no idea on that. (I should've been asleep several hours ago and my brain's already slightly disfunctional, so disregard that if it sounds silly. ^^; )

Hmm, that could be a nice thing to do yeah. It seems a lot of creators who do a callout or name listing tend to limit it a bit to a certain level (like $10 or $15 and up) to keep it from becoming all too huge, though they usually have a larger audience as well. As for the names, dunno about anyone else but I personally would not mind the name I use here on Patreon (Timmy Fox) listed in its entirety.

Maybe a political rant about how the current government is half assed and so broken. I think you did something like that already I just really don't like trump, bernie, or hillary. These three have lost their minds collectively and frankly I'm tired of their crap. I'll think of more ideas to help out. I'll help you out when I can 2. Count on it.

How about using furry names for those who are furries, unless they ask for something different, and using the first initial with last name for those who aren't furries unless they offer a nickname to use? The database of nicknames could just be kept in a spreadsheet, and while it would take a bit of time to enter them all in at first, maintaining the list as you get new patreons or name changes would be easy.

A google doc form perhaps - they enter in their patreon email address and whatever they want to be known as along with if they want to be listed at all. That way the individual patrons are responsible for keeping it up to date not you. Anyone who doesn't fill out the form you assume they don't want to be listed.

I see a lot of mentions of a google doc. I think this is a good idea except for the chance of people getting their hands on it and messing it up just to fuck with it. Just my imediate thoughts

That's possible, but the problem is there are patrons coming in and going out all the time. The names would change from week to week and I'd have to get everyone to send in their preferred name repeatedly. Personally, that might start to annoy me. And I don't want to bug my bosses, you know? :)

The problem I can see with a Google Doc is that it wont change as people come and go. I can only think you just ask here on Patreon for what name people would like displayed and ask again every 2-3 months. Just tell people to leave comments with their preferred name and nothing else. Doing that 5 times a year wouldn't be too bad.

I think the first initial, last name idea is solid for people who don't have usernames or furry names. It would mean less management between you and patrons, which would give you more time to yell at things and do other important work. I don't personally mind people using my real name; maybe you could see how many patrons actually do, and if it's a lot, stick to the initial thing.

This may be the best solution regarding the names issue. Google doc's tend to be a pain in the ass (based on your browser or your OS), but it's an easy way to let people add the info they want to be recognized as, and you can just check it once at the beginning of each month. I don't think people can delete what others have wrote, only what they themselves have wrote, but i'm not sure how it all works. Then again, if those who leave don't remove themselves from the list before going, that could get bothersome.

Perhaps those pseudonyms that are obviously furry names could be used, and those that are real just initialize like you said, and wait for someone to correct you if need be. Seems like it will need some pondering.

As far as I can say for myself, I don't mind going by my fur name. When it goes to rants, I would like to hear your thoughts on the govt mess we have right now.

I like your idea. As for myself feel free to use my first name or my fur name. It's fine with me. Keep up with the good work.

You should definitely make more videos like this. Especially, when it's something viral going around and there has to be someone to rant about it. ;> Also, you can show my Patreon-name as you wish. It's always my furry-name. ^^
