I have to throw out a hypothesis here. Their dad was a knight, and knights worked for the royalty. Their mom kept the two kids separated. The inquisition is trying to capture the kid at all costs. I bet their mom got knocked up by the king, Hugo is actually a prince by blood, and the inquisition army is trying to capture him in a plot to control the royal power in their country, one way or another. It'll be interesting to see if that turns out to be the case.
