I’m just finally watching the later episodes and had a thought on the Keith flashback episode - I think he messed with Eren’s equipment to stop him becoming a scout as a way to “protect” him because that’s what his mother would have wanted. And also he knew firsthand how Grisha telling someone they were “special” was a burden and “curse” and he didn’t want Eren to have to go through that
