i believe the alternate universe at the end is showing that had all the events worked out like it showed, seb wouldn't have even gotten his club. he prioritizes his relationship with mia and doesn't go through with the offer from keith, so seb would've only had the means to support mia's dream. people tend to say they're like the 'right person, wrong time' trope, but i like to think that it was right person, AND right time regardless of their bittersweet ending! they pushed one another to achieve their respective dreams, and that was all they were meant to do for one another (':

YAYYY

heather

blue valentine appreciation!

Brianna

This movie hurts so much. I love it.

Lisa Reid (Sophrishea)

I saw this movie when it first came out, and got really mad at the ending, and i'd been holding that against it this whole time. Now I don't even know what I was so upset about! I really enjoyed it. Just goes to show that you should give things a second chance :)

ang

a top 5 of all time film for me ryan and michelle don't get enough respect and credit for this one

Mariana

I remember bawling my eyes out at the movies, especially with her audition singing about the ones who dream, that hit me right in the feels. Well, now I want to re-watch Crazy, Stupid, Love and Easy A

Abrielle Wright

If this was made today all the cars would've been a Tesla instead of a Prius 😅

sav

YAYYYY i’m so happy you finally reacted to my favorite movie ever 🥹🥹

Hedda Dybvadskog

The last time I watched this movie was in the theatre with my mum. She fell asleep. It was a sad experience, but hopefully watching along with y'all will redeem it:)

idk if you know this but at the oscars La la land was wrongfully announced as the winner of best picture due to the presenters of the award being given the wrong envelope. It was a big big moment in pop culture history so I feel like it is a part of the lore of the movie now. However, Emma Stone did win for best actress for this role!!

Kiki Meowzilla

The biggest surprise to me was that she beat Ruth Negga, she was absolutely compelling in 'Loving'.

ang

justice for blue valentine

Kelsey Haevermaet

Never watched this one before. So i guess i watch it with you now. 😂

Vanessa

I'm not being hyperbolic when I say this film brought me out of depression when I first saw it in theatres. It remains one of my favourites for what it meant to me about reviving passion in a time in my life when I was making a lot of life changes decisions about my future. The whole thing is a love letter to old film musicals and reminded me of why I wanted to study film. The ending shows the things you have to sacrifice sometimes for your dreams. (from both sides)

2023-07-12 19:55:23 I forgot how much I like this movie!! The ending killed me again, but I see it as, they would always love each other but maybe they weren't meant to be.. Emma Stone is amazing, Ryan too. And the music, I loved it, specially the jazz! <3 Thanks for this Michael! :)

I like to think this whole movie was written around that one moment in the end when they lock eyes and realize they both got what they wanted, party thanks to what they shared.

Kerry

dude this is my movie....... literally ryan gosling and emma stone came together to make this movie specifically for me i love it so much😭😭 so excited to watch with you!

I've actually never seen this before; this was a fun way to watch for the first time! I really appreciate how this movie felt so fantastical but also kind of raw at the same time. Like there were so many dreamy scenes where the characters are in La La Land, but also so many small, more down to earth feeling moments where a scene really hinged on a subtle expression on someone's face. The acting was fantastic, and the visuals especially in that final sequence were stunning! Also, "Say no to John Legend, everybody" made me laugh out loud. As a big fan of musicals, I'm excited to hear that there's more on the way! Thanks for sharing this :)

Did you watch Crazy, Stupid Love? If not, this is the movie that made me fall in LOVE with the Emma Stone/Ryan Gosling pairing . Chef kiss , mwah, So good. I’ve held off on this because i heard the ending hurts.

crazy stupid love their first movie together, the other one they did together "gangster squad" isn't that good but they're incredible in it and their chemistry is just so good and i love their friendship, they always goofing off from each other in every interview they've done together and actually when ryan did snl in 2018-2019 emma was there supporting him and also, the entire award season those two were funny af and so supportive, whenever emma won an award, she'd always made me cry whenever she talked about ryan and their friendship... fun fact: the lyricist of the songs in the movie are justin paul and benj pasek who wrote the music for the greatest showman, dear evan hansen on broadway and the original songs in aladdin live action among other things...they were roomates in college just like the director/writer (he also did whiplash) of the movie and the composer...

fun fact: emma did acapella her solo at the end the fools who dream and justin hurwitz (the composer) was playing the piano in the room next to the stage where they were filming and emma had an ear piece to hear justin but for the rest of people she was singing acapella... also on the soundtrack, their song is called mia and sebastian's theme lol and the dance sequence after they met was filmed in two days with a span of an hour for the sunset since they wanted to avoid using cgi and the lighting and all that, so they did 4 continues takes each day and as soon as they finished one the ran back to the start point and did the whole thing again until sunset was put and emma said damien (director) told her at the premiere they ended up using the second take of the fist day in the movie... the prologue made me cry in theaters because of all the references damien was inspired by like singin' in the rain, tap hat, the red ballon, an american in paris, many others, is just so good and made me missed those classic old movies with fred astaire, gene kelly and that generation of actors...emma, ryan and damien actually went to gene kelly's widow's house before filming and she told them gene would have loved their movie and showed them the og singin' in the rain script with gene's notes in it among other things...
