Ep 1 comments: the city watch is different from the night's watch, daemon is chaotic and wild, however, he does truly love his brother and niece, queen aemma was going to die either way, and the dagger that viserys grabbed when he was talking to rhaenyra is catspaw the dagger that arya used to kill the nightking, and regarding otto sending alicent to comfort viserys'....you weren't thinking the worst. otto was 100% trying to pimp his daughter out to the king

Oh yeeeah you made my night dude! As someone already said, there are 2-3 time jumps in this first season. The show runners have said to think of this season as a prologue for the main story, and after this season…no more time jumps. Just be prepared for somewhat abrupt actress changes. I can’t wait to rewatch this season with you, and continue on with the next 4-5 seasons…this is gonna be fun!!

You mentioned you're rewatching GOT on a larger screen and you're aware of the Joffrey spoiler scene. I know you can't recall who he was talking about but after seeing episode 1 of this show when you watch that scene again it'll be a MAJOR spoiler so please for the love of god when you get to season 3 episode 4 on your rewatch try to skip that scene. It's much better for all of us if you don't know the fate of that character! Also the Jon Snow show is a sequel and it's definitely seems like it's going to happen I think it's in pre-production.

As we learned from Rob Stark, YOU CANNOT MARRY FOR LOVE AND PLAY THE GAME OF THRONES! It causes nothing but chaos. Laena was by far the smarter choice. Daemon, leader of those who wake up and choose violence, is complicated but holds a special place in my ❤️ I haven't read the books but from my understanding this one is told from unreliable narrators so the stories that are passed down through history may not convey the entire truth. So hopefully any GOT spoilers of this time period can be taken with a grain of salt.

aaand the sept that the girls are in in episode 2 is a different one from GoT, the sept of Baelor from GoT isn’t built until Baelor the Blessed became king and he’s about 2 generations descended from the generation in HotD! this sept is one that was built after maegor the cruel burned down the original one.

and i think the reason dany never had a saddle is because after all the dragons died the info about dragon saddles was lost, also because of the death of the dragonkeepers (the ppl speaking valyrian with the staffs who are usually seen with the dragons)

i definitely feel like this show is on par with seasons 1-4 of GoT so far in terms of adaptation! the book that HotD is based on, Fire and Blood, is written more like a history book of the first 300 years of the targaryen dynasty starting with aegon the conqueror, so it doesn't have much dialogue. the entirety of the HotD storyline is crammed into a couple chapters of the book. there are a couple changes from the book so far, like how rhaenyra was about 8 at the start and alicent in her 20s (and they weren't friends) in the book and also a couple other things, but i really love the liberties the showrunners are taking. the book is written from the POV of maesters and court jesters, so the events that happen in the book aren't exactly how it happened, so it makes for an exciting thing to follow for both book readers and non-readers, since anything can happen!

Yes!! So excited to re watch HOTD with you! I would have liked a differenti song for the intro but I understand why they did it, score is amazing and visuals too! As others have said , there are a few time jumps you should be on the look for. There was a 6 month one in episode 2. Love the characters and the actors are great! Can't wait to hear your thoughts as the season progresses! Also loved your long GOT intro haha Thank u as always Michael!

just wanted to point out that the choice Viserys was given when Aemma was in labor was either both the mother and the child die or the child is possibly saved by cutting her open. Aemma was going to die either way if she couldn’t push the baby out. Viserys didn’t choose for her to die, there was no scenario in which she would live.

the official game of thrones podcast is a great listen if you ever need clarification! it has no spoilers and does recaps and analysis for each episode, and they have interviews each episode with cast/crew. highly recommend, it clarifies a lot that may be missed!

And yeah about Daemon, he's for sure on my top 3 characters, you just never know what he's thinking and like you said he's reckless but one of his redeeming qualities is that he for sure loves his family. Can't wait for the next drop !!

Daemon is definitely one of those morally grey characters that we see a lot in the GOT universe. You never really know what his next move is, and you dont know whether to love or hate him because it’s not that simple. He’s for sure one of my favorite characters in this series so far, I just love how much depth and detail he has.

Exactly!!! Dameon has some intense ways of getting shit done but he isn’t the villain or the evil one, Otto is and so many people don’t realize it (except Daemon) because he’s so good at being sneaky (similar to little finger). Daemon knew the real him and that’s why Otto wanted him gone so he could manipulate Viserys without Daemon being there to stop him. Viserys should have listened to Daemon when he was warning him about Otto and the small council.

I watched the first episode when it came out and life got in the way, so I didn't keep up with it. But now I'm glad because I'll be able to watch along with you guys. Now I don't know if I should watch the rest and then watch your reaction, or watch the episodes for the first time in your reactions.

George RR Martin said that that Daemon is one of the “greyest“ characters of the franchise (and also his favourite) and I think that’s so true… some of his actions might be questionable but in the end the love for his family always shines through.. also I wasn’t sure if you picked up on it but Lord Corlys Velaryon and the Sea Snake are the same person, sometimes also known as Lord of the Tides. He’s commanding the greatest fleet in Westeros which earned him the nickname. The seat of House Velaryon is Driftmark and Corlys as head of the house rules from their so called “Driftwood Throne“.

A lot of people saw Rhaenys "Queen that never was" as angry but she is just honest. It may come off as harsh but she is one of the most honest/loyal people around.

your commentary at the end...you mentioned the seasnake guy and they might go get him and his men. Lord Corlys IS the seasnake. He has the largest fleet. Besides him being Velaryon, him having that fleet is another reason that it made since for his daughter to be chosen.

Don't forget about romance! The king is the most eligible bachelor in the country. Of course Hightower is going to put his beautiful daughter in the king's path! The first night Allicent visited the king, she showed her beauty by wearing her mother's dress and her kindness by bringing a book. A bastard child could never be the heir. If Hightower wants his daughter to become queen, he has to play a long game. I think the word you are looking for to describe Rhaenys is "pragmatic."
