YAY!! So happy you reacted to 5SOS5!! It is an absolute masterpiece!! They all were so fabulous vocally & instrumentally...but I feel that Luke as the lead singer is severely underrated. His range is just sublime - he was truly perfect throughout this album. So many favourite songs - at the moment my faves are: Carousel, Bad Omens, Easy For You To Say, Take My Hand, Caramel & Bleach. But honestly 5SOS5 is the perfect piece of art...& you are right - definitely a driving album! 😊❤️

Man, you did this album justice with your reaction Michael (not that I expected anything otherwise)! I'm kinda overwhelmed with it all too - so much goodness, creativity, richness, depth and themselves in this release.So proud of them and what they have achieved with this and I know they'll be stoked with it going Number 1 in Australia (iTunes) and sure to follow on the ARIA Charts (our version of Billboard) next week. The song you were trying to think of was "I Ran" by Flock of Seagulls (big 80's hit). The guys wrote "Bloodhound" and were told it was very similar to that song's chorus so as you will see in the songwriting credits they have listed all 4 members of Flock of Seagulls. ****UPDATE***** They did get the Number 1 Album in Australia!

luke’s vocal at the end of tmh jtv is a voice memo from the early stages of figuring out the song! i also believe the little vocal splices throughout the outro are from the voice memo so it’s essentially ending the song with the way it started when they were writing it in joshua tree which is so beautiful!

i felt the same way about haze initially! it was so different than what i was expecting but by my second listen i was hooked!

yes that is indeed ashton in you don’t go to parties! he sings a lot more on this album, honestly they all do which makes it feel very reminiscent of self-titled in terms of the vocal distribution! some other notable moments of ashton leads are the beginning of the second verse in HAZE, the bridge of caramel, and basically all of TEARS! there are other moments as well & he has a lot of harmonies throughout but these are just off the top of my head haha!

sorry for all the comments lol but every time you ask a question i feel obligated to answer! i interpret bleach as a breakup song! they talk about trying to figure out living without someone and i think the bleach is both a metaphor for clearing the person out of your space & mind but it can also be literal like they’re actually cleaning their homes and bleaching their hair to cope w/ the loss of the relationship!

the red line is a train/subway line in london that they’d take to all their songwriting sessions in their early days as a band! they have some of the story behind each song on spotify but some are more descriptive than others haha! okay im only allowing myself to comment one more time so see you at the end of the album with my final thoughts/responses

“this is their tightest project but has so many risks that were taken” yes!! it amazed me on CALM how they made such a cohesive album while exploring various sonic directions and with this album they did that x1000! i truly can’t even pick favorites because with each listen i find myself loving each song more and more!

Thank you for your thoughtful and enthusiastic reaction! I really enjoyed watching this and feeling like someone just gets it. Their music really was perfection top to bottom on this album. The vocals and vocal distribution between band members, the lyrics, the instrumentation, the production - all so good! I especially love the vocal distribution on this one because those harmonies and just vocal variety create a sound you could never get on any solo projects (even though those have been absolutely excellent) - it’s the sound of 5SOS. And I agree there was something just more “5SOS” about this album as it was made more intimately by the band with less outside influence and with more control over every detail - especially sonic direction. Like you mentioned you can hear and feel their intention and focus. Ashton always talks at the live shows about his goal being human connection through music - with his fellow bandmates and the fans. That intention translated so well in this album - a palpable sense of connection to the band that goes beyond all the other records for me. 🖤 My favorites keep changing with every listen but I love TEARS! and Caramel. I cannot wait to see them play more of this live!! And you’re right it hits different in the car. So hard to keep both hands on the wheel! 😝
