i love the remix but i prefer the og mostly bc the chorus feels so much more full and beautiful, i think the chorus of the remix has a lot of the beat taken away

AHHH best thing to wake up to

so just off the start, suga is a huge basketball fan as well :) he actually got his name from his favorite position in basketball (shooting guard)

chimelle6

Not sure if anyone has told you yet but ‘Suga’ is actually the beginning to the word for shooting guard in Korean. Playing basketball was a pretty important thing for him when he was younger. He really loves sports in general and almost every time he comes to the US he goes to some type of sporting event.

Jessica

i was so excited for this!!!! this era is so important to me because i became army in this era and i have so many good memories of this time and all the songs to me are so nostalgic

Michel

OH MY GOD THANK YOU, FINALLY! I was losing my mind waiting for this one. Thank you thank you thank you!

chimelle6

I’m sorry I’m probably going to have so many comments going through this 🤣 but ‘I need you’ was their first song to get a music show win. In Korea they have daily shows that give an award to the song of the week I guess you could call it. Sort of a trl but instead of music videos it’s actual performances. Without a win on one of those your chances of making it are pretty low so it was a pretty big deal to them!

Claudia

OMG Best way to start my day!! Thanks Michael!

about whalien 52, there is actually a whale discovered making sounds at only 52 hertz (which the other whales couldnt hear) and BTS used that phenomenon to describe themselves being alienated from the world and society, they dont know if their songs would even reach people (due to the mistreatment and lack of exposure they're getting) it's crazy how they always do this, pick a theme and explore it so much that it becomes a story unique to them

alessia

baepsae is a political song, they had to cut the song when they perform it on TV back then, in this song J-Hope mentioned -the given up generation- (n-po seddae) which is what the older generation have called millenials in the media because they have given up on numerous things (employment, housing, marriage, giving birth, happiness, hope due to economic instability) RM also mentioned this line in dope where the MV translated it to "given up on 4 ,given up on 5(oh-po seddae)? I like the number 6 (yuk-po which is a wordplay to beef jerky) so why dont we give up on 6 !!! THE WORDPLAYYY UGHHH and in the last part they sang "baepsaeyaaaa" dragged out intentionaly because it sounds like a curse word to the korean ear, so they're basically calling baby boomers a bunch of motherfuckers which is hillarious to me!

Tabatha Yang

YAYYYY!! Just about to start it 💜😭

alessia

more on baepsae (crow tit/try hard/silverspoon) there is an idiom in korea saying "if a crow-tit tries to catch up to a stork they will most likely fail" due to the difference of playing field and resources!! and they have proved them wrong!! I love them so much even after 6 years of liking them because there's so much substance and talent in this group that I cant get anywhere else

elisa

the most beautiful moment in life was such an important era for bts. it was the first time they started to really get attention and i think you can really feel the fear and hope in their music. i'm so glad you reacted to this! it's also so fun to see you reacting to bts dancing lol

alessia

OMG I WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOU WATCH RUN BTSSS......IT IS SO FUNN

alessia

as for behinds in albums RM usually talks about it in his livestream in vlive

chimelle6

So I need to go be an adult and I’m only an hour in so I’ll be back 🤣 but I just finished moving on and wanted to say they were actually moving when they wrote that song! Starting out they all slept in the same room, besides jk I believe because he was so shy. Then they moved on to having a bigger dorm and 2 would be in a room together, Jimin and jhope remained roommates the longest (might still be). It is vague now but believed they still have dorms, but we know they have their own homes as well. Also army (in general especially og army) are obsessed with the hyyh era! (You should Google photo shoots and such from this era, each era has a special place in my heart but the aesthetics of this one is just chefs kiss) About a year ago Namjoon/RM told us we had to move on from hyyh but with this comeback they’ve been hinting at it quite a bit and we’re like we’ll move on when you do Joonie!

chimelle6

I think Pied Piper with them yelling at us to have a life outside of them and Converse High with Yoongi/Suga (I personally like to call him yoongles) saying he hates converse in a song about loving converse were the two most what is happening moments for me and crack me up every time still. 🤣🤣

Ophelia

A fun note about Boyz With Fun. The Korean title is 흥탄소년단 (Heungtan Sonyeondan), which is a just letter different from their name, 방탄소년단 (Bangtan Sonyeondan). It was actually a nickname that the media gave them early in their careers because they always seemed more "fun" than other groups. They would be dancing at award shows, playing around behind the scenes, etc. So it's fun that they took this name the media gave them and made a song with it.

Mariana

I'm so happy for how happy you were listening to these!! I wasn't expecting all 3 albums wowww that was such a treat! Haven't read previous comments yet but fun fact: Suga comes from "Shooting Guard" his basketball position, since he played, and looooves basketball. Edit, ok now I've seen several more comments about the suga nickname LOL. But I also wanted to add even if you react to their shows or don't, they will let you into their personalities and dynamics together so much more. You said you're interested in the interviews to know more about the music but I have to say you would get more from RM's vlives (vlive is a web page/app where they go live, it's free), he does a vlive talking about the albums once they come out, since many interviewers ask very few questions about the albums. One that does is the GRAMMY MUSEUM INTERVIEW, where the interviewer actually did his homework and asked great questions, the guys do look a bit shy here because it was a big moment so you'd miss their goofy side even though you'd get great intell from their answers.

alessia

sorry for spamming but I just finished this video whew it was so so so much fun, watching you made me relive the moment and the feelings I felt when I first heard these songs! and for that I thank you so muchhh!!! love you and i hope you are doing well <3 stay healthy and take care! looking forward to future drops and I cant wait to enjoy proof with you!

Anonymous

about the title of boyz with fun: it is actually a play on words with bts’ korean name, 방탄소년단, as the korean title of boyz with fun is, (흥)탄소년단. this is why the translation may be a bit off a differ between tracks. the same goes for songs such as silver spoon, moving on and dead leaves as they are all originally titled in korean!

Alicia

Loved every minute of the 2 hours, 43 min and 32 seconds of this reaction. I just loved this era - there is a vulnerability earnestness and innocence to it. The songs in this album embodies the concept of the transiency and fragility of youth (house of cards, autumn leaves, butterfly). All the love songs of can be taken as directed towards a romantic interest, but can also be interpreted (in the light of the closing tract of the whole era Young Forever) to be about not letting go of their youth (I Need You, Hold on Tight, Run, Love is not over). Nevermind, Fire, Dope and Baepsae are rousing anthems for youth. These series of albums are one their best in my books. Genius.

Alicia

Someone mentioned the Grammy museum interview - I second that if you want a great interview about their music. Like you, the interviewer did them the courtesy of discussing their music properly and not asking what their favorite food is, or asking about how RM learnt English….(as fun as some of those interviews can get with BTS..)

Ophelia

Also the part where you thought it was the area code for j-hope's hometown, it was both the area code and the date of the Gwangju Uprising. It was a teacher and student rights movement and protest in his city where many people died. Even official reports don't give the correct number of casualties, downplaying it significantly. j-hope is proud of his city for fighting against corruption and the government. His father is also a teacher, so he likely protested amongst everyone.

Ophelia

Also Suga's "I'm the most successful guy born in Daegu" was a bit mocking. A very conservative and problematic politician said that once, along with other terrible things about citizens, which made a lot of people from Daegu really mad. So Suga was kinda mocking him.

Tabatha Yang

I had to stop at Moving On because it’s my absolute favorite song. When Suga is talking about when he had to first move, machine in his mom’s heart and big scar, he’s talking about his first move to Seoul. He moved to support his family and follow his dream. That was his first move 😭😭 I always get emotional thinking about it. Anyways, I’ll be finishing the reaction now!

Tabatha Yang

AHHH OKAY I got the just the end of Moving On LOL. The song is about them moving on from the small one bedroom apartment they all lived in together for the first few years. Moving on from all the memories they had to only move on together. The outgrew that home so it’s now time to move on from that time of being trainees

from doolsetbangtan: " 날 볼라면 시간은 7시 모여 집합 If you want to see me, gather around at 7 o’clock Double entendre: (1) Gather at 7 o’clock (time). (2) Gather in Gwangju (clock position; geographic location). Gwangju is located in the southwest corner of the Korean peninsula (7 o’clock). However, using “7 o’clock” to refer to Gwangju is a subculture slang of a particular online forum, Ilbe Storehouse, which is a radical right-wing website. Their mocking and making conspiracy theories of Korean democracy in general, Sewol Ferry Disaster, and Roh Moo-hyun, a former President of Korea and a Democratic Party member, generated a lot of social controversies. Gwangju is the home of the May 18 Democratic Uprising (also known as the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement or Gwangju Uprising) and is called the sacred place of Korean democracy. During the period of this democratization movement, the citizens of Gwangju were attacked by government troops sent by the martial law government. The members of Ilbe Storehouse therefore took the military term and call Gwangju “7 o’clock” rather than its name. By calling Gwangju “7 o’clock” by himself, J-Hope is basically criticizing and firing back at Ilbe. (Side note: Gyeongsang Province, especially Daegu, is known to be politically conservative, and there’s a political tension and a historical rivalry between Gyeongsang and Jeolla Provinces. Given that four out of seven members are from Gyeongsang Province, it’s interesting (in a good way) to see how J-Hope is showing his Gwangju identity. It’s also worthwhile to mention that Suga composed and produced a tribute, 518-062, before debut.) 모두다 눌러라 062-518 Everyone, press 062-518 062 is a regional telephone code of Gwangju. 518 refers to the May 18 Democratic Uprising." Just wanted to highlight this as you mistook the numbers for a regional code, but also because j-hope and suga are my biases I think it's cool they don't ever play into the tension between their homes in a mean spirited way (Paldogangsan & Where You From my beloveds you will hear soon), and in fact named their (kinda abandoned) live show series and subunit "Hwagae Market" after a place on the border of their provinces where people from both gyeongsang and jeolla come together on equal ground. I just think their pride in the hometowns in Ma City, Suga's mocking of conservative leadership in Daegu repeating "“He’s the most successful guy from Daegu,”" about himself and saying he's gonna be the future instead, his vocal acknowledgement and support in his pre-debut song about the Gwangju uprising and massacre, and J-Hope's openness about it too really shows another layer to the group and their understanding of each other. Also fight me but Sope are the best duo. EVER. I can and will scream for hours about them.

Liuzetz

During Boyz with Fun, that was indeed V with his growls and deep voice. I'd suggest you check the live version of this song even on your own because it is super fun and chaotic energy. Amazing.

As for the upcoming anthology album, I don't see the harm in you listening to the new songs that will be on it the moment it is released (3 official new songs and there are 2 previously unknown songs on the CD3 Only track list), I think you will understand the lyrical context of those songs easily without hearing the school trilogy and dark & wild, as HYYH was the biggest shift and the driving force for every song put out afterwards. I think for the rest of the track list, hearing their earlier songs out of context from the greater story of the albums they come from might not flow with how you've been experiencing their music so far? Plus you would likely be hearing demos for songs you haven't even heard the original version of. It's something to think about I guess. Can't wait!! This was another great video where I think you're the reactor who is the most attentive to the actual lyrics, a lot of others listen to their music out of order & based on people asking for their favourites and so they lose a big part of the story and journey that BTS try to tell and misinterpret their words. I've seen a few people waffle through the first verse of a song like Black Swan and miss the complete set up and make assumptions that they're singing about a girl. What a nightmare.

ojochan

“So this is what BTS does, BTS literally makes me think about the most obscure stuff that might not be relevant to the song but at the same time I’m like ‘This is BTS, they would pull the most random detail possible’ so I gotta consider all factors.” I replayed this bit several times and kept on chuckling 😂 I’ve been a silent subscriber so far, but just finished the entire 2 hours and 43 minutes and wanted to let you know how I really appreciate this review. Your analysis is very entertaining and the details you notice in the lyrics are so impressive. So thank you very much for this video (and the hours you must’ve spent to edit the video too :D) 💜💜

ojochan

oh also on recommendation on interviews to see more of their personalities I think would be “Let’s BTS” & “You Quiz on the Block” for Korean TV shows, and then Grammy Museum Interview (as another ARMY had pointed out) & Amazon Music Interview with Jaeki Cho for Western interview.

Mariana

I was able to play the whole video as background sound YAAAY!! but I want to rewatch later reading the whole lyrics along with you.

Liuzetz

Also, during this era we got the beginning of the Storyline and Both I need you and Run are big parts of the story.

Daijah

The caption is killing me 😭 i love this album so freaking much im happy you listened to it!

Bangtan is life

FINALLY!!!! I’m glad to see armys already told you about some things otherwise this would have been a long text lol But in terms of getting to know them better, after you’re finished with all the albums, please consider starting their docu-series! Starting with Burn The Stage on YouTube!

Hailey Lee

Michael, it is almost your 1 year anniversary of being an ARMY! because you reacted to PTD (9 July 2021), which is ARMY's birthday date. ARMY's are so glad to have such an amazing person in our fandom. :))) Sending many purple hearts <3

Courtney Gregg

The Army sang Young Forever to BTS at Wembley. BTS kind of lost it. It was amazing. Definitely worth watching!

Hailey Lee

To get to know their personalities, AND their music side, AND their roles in the group AND their actual journey from the start, "Rise of Bangtan" is the PERFECT combination. It is a fan-made documentary with 20 episodes free on youtube (30 mins each) that covers everything you need to know about these guys. It even talks about the lyricism, production side of things, and the kpop world. I think ARMYs can agree it is the best documentary ever. However, since it starts from the beginning, it would be best if you finish their whole discography first (you have a little left) so that you don’t get any spoilers. But if you want just personality-wise with so much FUN and laughter, RUN BTS is the BEST. Every episode is crazy funny and u will know how these boys are actually comedians. Here's a trailer of Rise of Bangtan: https://youtu.be/SSaz25aJHyA

Emily K

You mentioned wanting to learn more about the members' personalities and also their music making process. There are a couple of videos that I think are particularly great for that! The first is a Pitchfork video from a year ago where they broke down their discography: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tt9x61AL50E&t=908s The other one is the "BE-hind Story" series where the members interviewed each other about the process of making the album BE. It's really enlightening and personal. There are seven videos total, each one ranging from 15-25 minutes long. There is also a video where they combined all the interviews, but they cut some bits out, so I'd recommend watching each of the videos on their own to not miss anything. You can find each of the BE-hind videos in this playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5hrGMysD_Gvw9rt0rT4vbGP02VIuO4er I'm not sure if you meant that you'd watch these types of videos on your own time, but I think it goes without saying that I (and many others) would love to watch your reactions to these videos! 💜

Hailey Lee

- About RM's lyricism controversy. It's in the 'War of Hormone' song. where a lyric appeared a little misogynic, but I think that back then, people just wanted to put these boys down with anything they can put their hands on and it blew out of proportion. BUT, recently, RM actually spoke about this in the United Nations in front of the Korean President about how he has learnt and grew to be more aware of his lyrics. He was so brave to talk about it in such a big platform in front of important people, but it just shows how much he has learnt from that. I respect him so much. - I am now indecisive whether I should wear converse high or not since every member likes them except Suga lolllll. - 'Move' is such an emotional song. All the members actually lived together in a small dorm where they shared one small bedroom. I get nostalgic everytime listening to this song. - The outro Jungkook worked on and wanted tax deductions for was 'Outro: Love is Not Over'. Really funny random thing in the skit. - 'Butterfly' and 'House of Cards' is such a masterpiece. Definitely in my top 5 ultimate fav bts songs. The live performances is also spectacular. - People have already explained Whalien 52 and Baepsae, but the double meaning in these song is just CRAZY.

Michel

Update after seeing the whole video (spoiler: it's disgustingly long): First of all, who thought you're not gonna love HYYH?? I was so thrilled to see your reaction because I knew it's right up your alley. This whole era is very popular and loved by ARMYs, especially those who lived through it ( sadly not me :''c ), and I dare to say it's very special for BTS as well. They started to really pop up with these albums (I Need U was a cultural reset + they won their first award with it) and there were also some hardships that they were going through at that time.. It's also the start of the BU! I don't know if you're gonna go down that rabbit hole because it's a LOT to take in, but if you do, I'm sure gonna love it! What's next waiting for you is "Dark & Wild" - it's a full length album, also one of the most loved by fans. It has this very specific vibe... I'm already excited for your reaction! After that comes the last series (aka the very beginning), which is the Skool trilogy. It contains "2 Cool 4 Skool" (EP), "O!RUL8,2?" (EP) and "Skool Love Affair" (compilation of the 2 previous ones + new tracks). There's also "Skool Love Affair special addition" which only has one new track "Miss Right". I highly suggest you do those in one video as well. (Also - please listen to their remixes, they're so good! Highly suggest Butterfly - prologue remix, and Run - ballad mix, from HYYH.) As for Proof, the first CD has title tracks + a new song "Yet To Come" and "Born Singer", which is a song they made a cover of during their debut (also a fan favorite, very emotional, highly suggest watching a live performance). CD 2 has solo and subunit songs which the boys handpicked themselves (you can check out their "Proof of Inspiration" which is a series of short clips where the boys explain why they chose these specific songs) + a new song "Run BTS". CD 3 has demos, some never officially released songs & a new track "For Youth" (and it's CD only, not available digitally). I HOPE HOPE HOPE you're also going to check out the rappers' mixtapes, I'm 100% sure you're going to enjoy them just as much as their group albums! Now some of my notes from the video: 1) I loved when you said that what you just saw/heard was an experience, 'cause that's how a lot of ARMYs describe BTS. It's not just "good songs" or "beautiful MVs", BTS is a whole experience. 2) It's true that older albums tend to have less quality, but I have to say, it does no way apply to BTS (like you said). They were absolutely amazing right from the start and despite not having any industry & big financial support, they were monster rookies! 3) You mentioned they were and still are very humble + had humble beginnings. That's one thing that stunned me when I got into them. Not only they started off small, but they stayed true to themselves, never took shortcuts, remained humble and incredibly grateful. Something a lot of us love about them. 4) About the misogyny, the song in question was "War of Hormone" from "Dark & Wild" album. The lyrics... seriously weren't that bad as some made it seem. I personally found nothing wrong with the song, and I heard that it was rather something that haters came up with to have something on the guys. However, they still apologized for it and RM even started consulting his lyrics with experts on this topic. Last year he talked about this again, on national TV, in front of the president. 5) Someone mentioned that "If I NEED U (hyyh pt. 1) is happiness behind sadness, then RUN (hyyh pt. 2) is sadness behind happiness." I think that's a good description. 6) Somebody explained Whalien (52 hz whale, aka the loneliest whale/creature in the world) already, but I would just like to add that since then, the (purple) whale has become kind of a symbol for BTS. They have it in 2 MVs (for Zero O'clock & We Are Bulletproof: The Eternal), have a plushie, and they had it flying above the crowd in their PTD concerts - except there were two, since the lonely whale (BTS) is not alone anymore (they have ARMY, who heard them in the ocean). 7) In the skit where RM talks about Bang PD - he's the guy who put them together (THE guy who put all his faith and trust into 16-year-old RM after hearing him rap once), he's been with them from the start and is like their mentor. He also writes and produces a lot, and is behind a lot of their songs (along with Pdogg and a few other in-house producers). 8) I didn't see anyone mention this, but "Save Me" is tied with "I'm Fine" (from LY: Answer). I'm Fine starts with a melody from Save Me, the titles are an ambigram & RM's lines in the songs have opposite meanings and are in reverse order. 9) You said this era felt "necessary" and I couldn't agree more, except I feel like that's true for all their eras. Map of the Soul BTS wouldn't come up with/produce songs like 2 Cool 4 Skool BTS, but they had to go through that phase in order to get where they are now. Every mistake, every lesson learned, every hardship and victory, it all makes the currect BTS and they themselves wouldn't want it in any other way. And I think that's so beautiful and inspiring. (From Answer: Love Myself: Yesterday’s me, today’s me, tomorrow’s me / Without exception, all together, they are all me / Even the scars made by your own mistake mark your constellations.) And I also hope you're going to learn a bit about their story/history 🙏😭 Whether through some introduction videos, documentaries, or the fan-made docu series Rise of Bangtan. I'm telling you... Knowing the context for certain songs and albums is going to give you a whole new perspective and you might fall in love with their discography all over again. You'll also get to learn the boys' personalities and individual stories! Learning their story was what made me an ARMY to the core - I'm not ever leaving this purple household. I'm now forever attached to these 7 men whose life has become my inspiration and motivation to keep going no matter what. On top of that, they have become the ray of sunshine that I desperately needed: with their chaotic energy, their love for each other, their humor and positive vibes... It's just very hard to not fall for them. Can't wait for what's more to come! 💜 Thank you for your reaction, I really enjoyed it.

Slightly off topic, but about tattoos! Jimin got Nevermind tattooed on his rib cage, his first tattoo (that we know of). He has a few more now, like Young Forever, which is a very important song to him specifically, he mentions it almost every single time they’re asked about favorite or important songs. For some Korean context, it is illegal there to get a tattoo unless it is from a registered doctor. They’re also not allowed to be seen on broadcasts, so anything shown on tv tattoos are either covered up or blurred out. If you see jk wearing a glove at times that’s why. There is a video of jk all the way back before dark and wild talking about how bad he wants tattoos and he finally started getting them in 2019 I believe. His sleeve is always evolving and just so beautiful and is full of things that represent him. On his hand on each knuckle there is ARMY (the A doesn’t have the line in the middle) then on his ring finger a little bit above is a J. Between each set of letters is a + so it comes out to ARMY, RM = Namjoon, JM = Jimin, J = JHope, Jungkook, and Jin, A = turned upside down is V for Taehyung/V. There is a crown, heart, smiley face, and the symbol for army nearby.

Jenny

If you have a chance you should check out Young Forever at Wembley. ARMY surprised BTS and sang Young Forever to them and the members reactions are so touching

chimelle6

Run isn’t after the show, but we’re theorizing that one of the new songs on Proof might be a theme song for the show! I think you would enjoy run since you like sports so much! Not all episodes revolve around sports, it’s really a variety show of all sorts of things, but there are many episodes of playing sports … though often not well 🤣 There are 150 episodes 😲 some better than others, but all have something to give. If you decide to go down that route, I would recommend doing Rise of Bangtan first then switch up between Run, In the Soop, and Bon Voyage. It is A LOT and hours and hours of content, but trust me, they make a fantastic show. I can’t tell you how much time I’ve spent, laughing, crying, and healing with them. Music always comes first, but they’re also my favorite shows.

Bangtan is life

I also wanted to mention maybe watching the Episode: Permission To Dance On Stage- Seoul since it’s newer and you will get to see the work they put in to the shows and also see some parts from the concerts as well😄

Jacqueline

If you ever find the time, you should check out their Burn the stage Docu Series. It's about 8 episodes and so worth it. You get to see, how hard they work for every show.

chimelle6

Pro tip if there is ever a dance move your eyes can’t handle you can slow down the speed of the video. Very satisfying at times to see it in slow mo!

Sarah

This just made my day to see posted! Can’t wait to dig into this later!

chimelle6

Gosh I keep promising myself I won’t comment anymore 🤦🏻‍♀️🫣 but I remembered I wanted to say that Wake Up (the one you said was the next album) is a Japanese album, it will be Dark and Wild. I would love if after the Korean discography you did the Japanese. It could possibly be just one video? Most of the songs are ones you will have already heard in their Korean discography, but just redone in Japanese which you could skip over, but there are Japanese only songs. You can tell the difference because repeat songs will say ‘Japanese version’ next to them and the new songs won’t say anything next to them. The Japanese songs have a very specific ‘sound’ to them. I think it’s interesting to see what is probably more popular style-wise Korean vs Japanese.

julian kristiansen rundhaug

I'm so glad you like it! its my favorite era and i thinkit always will be i got into bts around this time so i may be biased but its good to see that you enjoyed it

chimelle6

SO MUCH FUN!!! THANK YOU!!!!

EB

First off, thank you so much for putting out quality content and taking your time to appreciate each track. This was definitely a long video, but I know I loved every second. My comment is going to be equally long, so apologies ahead of time! BTS is the first musical act that I feel really lives up to the hype. As I’m sure you can see by now, their discography has no misses. I definitely have favorites and songs I like more than others, but I have yet to find a track that I dislike. I cannot say that about any other artist. Notes from the video (I read through previous comments and am going to try and avoid repeating stuff that has already been said): 1. Followed you on Twitter! 2. HYYH era is widely loved by ARMY and it seems the members really love it too. Jimin has “Nevermind”, “Young Forever” and “Youth” tattoos. He has shared that when the group was going through a very hard time in 2018 that watching their performances, specifically “Young Forever”, helped him a lot and reminded him why he loves being a performer and member of BTS. When ARMY surprised the guys by singing the song for them during the concert at Wembley Jimin sobbed through the whole thing. 3. Obviously there are many interpretations of song lyrics and one interpretation of “Butterfly” that I’ve seen is about loving (familial, romantic, platonic, whatever kind) someone who is suicidal. I thought about it through that lens while watching this video and it makes the song even more heartbreaking. 4. Watching their MVs while also trying to read and interpret lyrics is a lot! And yes, watching each video at least 8 times so you can watch each member and then the group as a whole is totally normal 😂 As Yoongi said during their interview with the Grammy Museum: “K-pop includes not just the music, but the clothes, the makeup, the choreography…all these elements I think sort of amalgamate together in a visual and auditory content package, that I think sets it apart from other music or maybe other genres so again, as I said, rather than approach K-pop as it’s own genre I think approaching it as this integration of different content would be better.” While BTS isn’t really considered K-pop anymore, about half of what they do is visual and performance based, so missing out on those means you’re missing out on half of what they have to offer. Their musicality and lyricism is so amazing, and when you add visuals and dance/performance - they’re just in a league of their own. 5. I know some are suggesting the Rise of Bangtan. Aneesa (the editor of the series) does an absolutely phenomenal job on it and I would highly recommend it. However, it is very very long. Just the episodes alone are over 11 hours at this point. So I would recommend starting with their docuseries. They contain interviews and insight from the guys, but also show their day to day lives on tour and how much work they put in to their performances. I would suggest starting with the most recent one, Break the Silence. The amount of self awareness and insight that these men have to offer is inspiring and will challenge your view of how you see yourself and your approach to certain things in life (at least it did for me!). Lastly, the first two weeks of June are always an exciting time for ARMY. BTS’s debut anniversary is June 13th, and for the two weeks leading up to it we celebrate Festa. Just about anything can happen during those weeks, usually including releases of special performances, dance practices, new tracks (usually solo or unit), behind the scene videos, and special photo releases. It’s basically 13 days of ARMY Christmas. And this year, on top of all that we have the Proof release. It’s a lot to look forward to! Can’t wait for Proof and your reaction to it!

chimelle6

So, I have a request if it sounds interesting to you, which wouldn’t be a first listen reaction, but I would love so much if you saved mono by rm (it’s the second of his 2 solo projects and he calls it a playlist rather than a mixtape) for when you’re having a rough day and listen to it while going for a drive at night. It’s a pretty short play time, I think maybe 24 minutes? The words are of course important but just the sound of it alone is already comforting, so you could read the lyrics before going but not completely necessary and a good portion is in English so you’d catch on to some of it without reading them. Then do a reaction to it sometime after. I know that goes against everything a reactor is supposed to do, but I think it could possibly be something special and a unique was to go about it??

xan xan

truly excited for you to enter their true hip hop era, which is next,, dark & wild is a stand alone album, and then comes the school trilogy very very excited to see what you think of those, one of my favorite reactors due to how much you care about lyricism, thank you for giving them a chance 💜

Anonymous

I loved this reaction, thank you! Keep up the good work, we appreciate it so much. It makes me so happy to see that you continue to appreciate the boys more and more. Can't believe how much content you’ve seen/listened to by now, but at the same time, how much music and content you’ve yet to experience. The BTS journey can be wonderfully long, and I look forward to following yours, no matter how long it lasts. ❤️

Anonymous

Thanks so much for this reaction! I watched the entire thing in one sitting while I was supposed to be working 🫣 I was a teen during this era and it takes me back to the person I was in high school; always felt like bts really captured youth aka the most beautiful moment in life.

Hailey Lee

its okay, everyone is biased towards this era. To the point where even RM told us to let go of this era lollllll.

Lisa Reid (Sophrishea)

A true pleasure as always to experience a BTS album with you. I didn't want it to end! <3

Hannah

you havveeee to watch 'Ma City' live oml the energyyyyy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T62eL6H49WQ

Hannah

Not on this album but one you'll get to soon 'Attack on Bangtan'/ 'The Rise Of Bangtan' live performance (must watch omg its always great to see them let loose and have fun on stage- and sounding great ofc lol) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gP0Vo0U3Yn8

Shavani

this was such a great reaction. i enjoyed every minute of itttt. I cant wait for you to check out Agust D2 sugas second mixtape. im telling you lyrically its crazyyyy. i also think you should react to some of their dance practices because its inase. and yeah jimin does have an angelic feel to him. He majored in contempry dance when he was in high school i believe,

chimelle6

Yes, yes, yes! One of my very favorite performances! I feel like it doesn't get talked about enough. The performance of baepsae from this concert is one of my favorites too!

SB

Fun fact, SUGA gave himself the stage name 'SUGA'' because he really loves basketball and when he used to play he played as the SHOOting GUArd, SHHO+GUA = SUGA

Yukari

I’ve been waiting for this reaction! I’m giving finals today and I got to listen/watch your reaction while I grade. Lol. You have to watch the live videos of these songs, especially the House of Cards and Baepsae. The color coded lyric was not always correct. I love Save Me so much! You must watch Army singing Young Forever for the boys at WembleyStadium. It makes me cry every time. I’m definitely listening to this again later when I walk. I’m sure others talked about this fictional story line running through some of the early MV’s and it starts with I Need You. It’s called the Bangtan Universe and I’ve just been getting into it. If you decide to venture into BU, buckle up because it’s deep, often sad, but so creatively done!

Pk

I will suggest you to watch their music videos in sequence especially from this era to love yourself series. They are like storylines (BTS Universal aka BU). The BU will blow your mind away🤯🫣

Anonymous

You were completely spot on at the end when you said how this era just feels necessary. When you look at there next couples of albums before HYYH was released, you’ll hear a stark difference in their sound. This era was their breakout era and when they really started to gain fame and recognition. I Need U was their biggest song by far at that time and things only went up from there. Young Forever (the compilation album version of the 2 parts) was their first album to win album of the year. This era was incredibly pivotal to their sound and it was kinda the start of what became considered “New School BTS”. Thank you for your great reaction as always!

chimelle6

So I’ve been saying about rise of Bangtan, their shows, and vlives because I just love going to the source of them. Run actually started because they wouldn’t be invited on shows or cut from them in Korea (btw most of the time when they have songs about the haters it’s the industry for things like this - which reminds me that I wanted to say in dope they’re honoring those professions and more saying in those professions what they’ve gone through other people go through in their perspective professions rather than that’s what their haters are. They often say that they just have a unique job but don’t put it above others) so they said fine and made their own. In America they’re still undermined at times but when they were first coming over here it was really bad and the interviews were mostly uncomfortable with no substance so for the longest time you had to go straight to them to get any information. So I think that’s why a lot of army skip over interviews and go straight to their content in suggestions. There are a lot more worthwhile media content in recent years. I know you like carpool karaokes and they do have one of them, it is pretty cute (in season 4 of bon voyage they’re road-tripping around New Zealand and shows better what they’re like naturally in a car and a bit in in the soop season 1). I saw some suggestions above that are more in depth on music that are good (but again I’d suggest rm’s album reviews the most)! Listen, if you end up enjoying bts more personally and want to watch it all we will certainly be here. You really have substance and there is nothing we enjoy more than substance and all the content. Or even just watch it off camera but let us know with a review video. 🤣

jennptx

I've been listening to these albums off and on for the last couple weeks to see if I could experience the era with fresh ears and predict what you would love. And I knew you'd love it all! Also, gleeful to see the videos you chose to do (and it's okay to watch every video 7 times, because that's just what ARMY does). So glad you decided to take this journey with us, and I know there is still so much ahead, because once you get into the documentaries, the concerts, the interviews, the Bon Voyages and In the Soops, and all the Runs, and all the Bangtan Bombs, and all the Festa birthday reflection specials, and the behinds of every video, show, and album, and the V-Lives where they talk directly to us...well...you see why we're the most blessed and fortunate fanbase and love these guys with our whole hearts. They are so talented, and they work so hard, and they love so much. Thank you always for taking so much of your time and care to listen and give them love!

jennptx

Also, knowing that the next 2 albums have my favorite cyphers makes me want to scream! You have so many good songs to come (besides those)! Because I've only been ARMY for a short time, I've had 2 years of being mad each time I heard a song from these early albums, because they're all so unique and so good.

Han

You mentioned the “humble beginnings vibes” when talking about HYYH pt. 1 and theres really no better way to put it. If “I Need U” hadn’t have been the hit it was they were on the verge of disbandment (because their company was almost bankrupt) and so who knows what wouldve happened. Very humble beginnings.

Han

Also the about the cursing in Nevermind and where it came from, u need to listen to D2 and Agust D! It will give so much dimension and new understandings to bangtans’ music (especially Yoongi’s contributions to that music)

-Mac-

I am so excited to watch you react to this. :bounce bounce bounce: About the flower  Smeraldo flower was so important. Unreleased tracks and JK’s accapella version of Still With You… Can you hear me screaming? I think you are at 6 favourite BTS songs so far. I’m laughing. #ARMY_problems Dark and Wild is the next Korean album, Wake Up is the Japanese album and it has some tracks you need to hear: Wake Up, Stars, and I Like It pt. 2. Dope: When I first saw it, I was so dumbstruck, I am glad to not be alone. I think it took 4 passes to even *try* for the words; I was so lost in the choreo. I always thought that this was for all the folks working hard at their jobs and excelling; the experts of the working class, they got where they are because they busted their asses, regardless of prefession, like BTS. And they all do this in the face of no support and nay sayers. When you have an ultimate bias [JK for me], an *aggressive* wreckers, and you STILL love the other members for what they do and bring to the group. once again, #ARMY_problems. Whalien 52: I know folks will explain this song far better than I, but the concept of being alone, the whale that has no pod [or has lost it’s pod] and can’t reach anyone, constantly singing out, alone in the dark depths of the ocean [endless work, new found fame and the weight of haters]. I cannot imagine what it was like to live this isolating life during the emotionally chaotic time time of ones teens and early 20’s. Feeling literally, like an alien amongst your freinds. It is such a sad song. If you want to actually learn more about BTS as individuals so to speak: All of these docuseries, movies, and reality shows can be found on Weverse, [for $$] Run BTS [their variety show, watch this to laugh] Burn The Stage Bring The Soul Break The Silence Bon Voyage seasons 1 - 4 [vacation with BTS wholesome and soothing] In The SOOP Seasons 1 & 2 [Chill with BTS on vacation, even more wholesome and soothing] Once you finished these, or in between some of these shows, watch The Rise of Bangtan on YouTube. House of Cards: Watch one of the concert versions. You will need tissues, they slay so hard. You would not be the first [nor the last] person to watch an MV 8 or 9 times, once just to see it and then 7 more times to focus on each member then a 9’th, just to see it again. Save Me: The dancing [one take wonder, this video] is so full of emotion that matches the song in a way that the others don’t, despite them all being amazing. This isn’t my favourite video visually, but the fact that it’s one take, on a cold, windy, grassy, sandy surface and they *killed* the foot work? I sit in my awe. It’s a masterpiece for that alone. I LOVED this 2:39:43 with you. It’s always a joy to go through BTS albums with your ears. Thank you.

Han

The numbers that Hobi read off in Ma City is part area code, but part also refers to the Youth Uprisings of May of 1982 in Gwangju (where Hobi is from.) They were basically mass public protests of mostly young people who wanted democratization of an authoritarian regime and many of the protesters (over 150) were murdered in the streets. It’s basically a political statement that he is putting into this song, because theres still a lot of political strife and polarization in Korea. Its also interesting that while Hobi raps 062-518, to memorialize the tragedy and show pride for his home and the protestors, Yoongi produced and composed the song 518-062 predebut in the same vein (though Yoongi is from Daegu.)

Han

Honestly i cant emphasize enough how much value and understanding will be added to these songs when you know them better. (If ur interested I personally think that the Rise of Bangtan series on YouTube, or their official documentaries Burn the Stage, Bring the Soul, and Break the Silence.) Thanks for another great reaction, your comprehension and analysis is always very interesting. :)

emmie jeans

This was such a delight to watch, thanks for enjoying bts with me :)

Sydnee R

i love love love love loooooove your reactions. People may have already mentioned it, but Jimin was also inspired by 'Never Mind' and got that tattoo'd on his ribs, he also has "Young" and "Forever" tattoo'd above his elbows and recently got "Youth" tattoo'd behind his ear so if you couldn't tell, this Era meant a lot to him haha. Also, if you want to see an interview where the boys show their personality and also talk about their music, I highly recommend watching the 'Pitchfor' interview on youtube titled "BTS Break Down Their Albums, From DARK & WILD to MAP OF THE SOUL : 7 | Pitchfork" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tt9x61AL50E&ab_channel=Pitchfork and also Run BTS which you've mentioned. That's their variety show where they play games, cook, and do challenges and it's also HILARIOUS and the best. There is a very well done FanMade Docuseries on Youtube called 'Rise of Bangtan' but there are also several official Docuseries and Documovies called 'Burn the Stage' 'Bring the Soul' and Break the Silence' the series and movie are titled the same on it would be like 'Burn the Stage:Docu-Series' and they are still separate from each other, like like Docuseries expands more on the movies, they go more in depth and if you have YouTube Premium, the first DocuMovie/Series Burn the Stage is available on YouTube. The other two are on Weverse. Once again, Thank you so much for taking the time to actually listen and appreciate BTS' music and I 100% look forward to your next BTS Reaction video! Borahae!

Anonymous

Loved loved loved this reaction. Had a feeling you’d be a fan of these projects 😊 I became a bts fan around the time they released Save Me, so this era is very special to me! hope someone custom requests the young forever performance from Wembley!! thank you Michael!

Giu Bressani

Finally got around to watching this and, first of all, I can't believe someone actually thought you wouldn't like this era as much??? Personally, I think you'll really enjoy their even older stuff since it's a lot more R&B and hip-hop heavy, so I can't wait for you to continue your journey (next would be the Dark & Wild album and then finally the Skool Trilogy with 2 Cool 4 Skool, ORUL82 - my personal fave - and Skool Luv Affair!) The HYYH really is a special moment in time and it's no surprise that 'the most beautiful moment in life' is a quote they still use quite often, since it means so much to them and the ARMY. They were all between 17 and 22 when this era started and this is really the moment when you're going through the changes of youth and you can tell how much they meant every emotion in these songs and lyrics. Also, everytime you watch a new music video I get flashbacks of you watching the PTD music video for the first time and being impressed by their dancing as if that choreo isn't warm up for them lol I honestly feel the same about you praising their MVs that aren't a part of the BU because once you get to I Need U and Run........ oh boy, but that's a whole new rabbit hole

fleur

Thank you for the reaction!!! If you would like to know more about our boys and their story I HIGHLY recommend watching the fan-made documentary series "The Rise of Bangtan". Their story is really something special.

Frances

I haven’t watched this yet but can tell from the enthusiasm & excitement in all the comments that it’s going to be great. Thank you in advance!

chimelle6

Run is free! There are bonus content that you can pay for but not necessary! And season 1 and maybe 2 of bon voyage can be found for free on vlive (not sure if it made the switch to Weverse for free?) Vlive is an older website and they’ve been switching all the content from that over to Weverse but not sure if it is all there. Everything mentioned can be found on vlive besides season 4 of bon voyage and in the soop season 1 and 2 they’re only on Weverse. The things that cost, sometimes there are ways to find them for free.

clacla

Your reactions are for me a breath of fresh air and I rediscover all those songs in a new light. It is a beautiful journey, thanks a lot <3

Sydnee R

It's a pretty safe bet he was inspired/moved by the song considering he had it henna'd on him for the MAMA 2015 performance prior to getting it permanently on him some time in 2019 along with his other HYYH inspired tattoos. He also points it out during the 2021 Festa Video when Yoongi is talking about writing the intro at approx 23:32 into the video

elif mine

selena when??

Michelle Winchester

Honestly, Jungkook is so random though. The tax deduction made enough sense, but sometimes he just does or say stuff out of nowhere 😂. I think it's because he often lives in his little world and even though we can't see how he got to a certain point, he probably went though the entire evolution from one point to the next in his head and just forgot other people haven't been along for that journey 🤣. It's kind of like when he replies to texts in his head and then just goes on as if he actually responded 😂

Blue Bubble

I second this !! The Rise of Bangtan would be absolutely perfect once you finish their discography if you're interested 💜 And Run BTS is honestly the funniest thing I have ever seen. Knowing their personalities and seeing them interact with each other outside of music will make you fall in love with them even more than you ever thought was possible :p

Yukari

I watched this again this morning as I’m grading my finals. I had couple more thoughts. In Moving On, RM had a line, “We would get choked up seeing senior singers perform at the year end award ceremonies” and I remembered their speech when they won Artist of the Year for the first time…they all had tears, but Suga had to cover his face as he could not stop from crying. Later in an interview, he stated that that he and RM used to watch these award shows together and dream about them being there. Like you said, they are so humble and authentic and that along with their brotherhood is what makes me a fan. In the Fire MV, did you notice that they were playing Dope at the beginning? You were mentioning about watching the dances with each member focus. There are videos of certain live performance with specific member focus. Finally, Save me is a fantastic song…I think I heard in one interview that it was one of Suga’s favorite songs. Your reaction is so fun to listen to. I look forward to the next! There is so much content out there!

Michelle Winchester

After the recent concerts where BTS clowned one of Jimin's moves at the beginning of Save Me in fron of 50k people each night (they really milked it dry 😂), I don't think I will ever be able to see this MV the same way 🤣🤣🤣

tina 🤍

You HAVE to see the live performances of all this songs. They are all so amazing ahhh. I love them! Especially the live performances of Boys with fun and Young Forever. It was as always a great reaction. Looking forward to seeing more BTS maybe?? Haha have a good day!

Scave13

If V’s verse surprised you you should definitely check out daechwita live performance with all the members

pebble

fun little addition - the literal translation ends more like "... they will split their legs/crotch" (trying to make them longer to catch up). Hence the hip thrusts..... 😂😂

pebble

that would be amazing!!! Run BTS can be bit overwhelming b/c of how many there are. I don't know if I'd recommend starting at the beginning (they were teenagers with no budget and.... well.... it was hilarious. but the point still stands.) Here is a Time Magazine article where the author lists some of their favorites, which might be a good place to start: https://time.com/6171158/run-bts-best-episodes/

pebble

here's a twitter thread with links to each one of those by album! https://twitter.com/winterlyblooms/status/1524332975281905665

pebble

I'm just wondering through the comments leaving helpful links on everyone else's informative posts 😅 Here's a 2 minute video of their first dorm: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74oiTEtS0ks

Aninha Silva

Did he ever say if he plans on doing ROB or anything like that at some point??

chimelle6

He asked for recommendations for interviews. I’m hoping for Rise of Bangtan since it gives so much context and pulls from pretty much all the different types of content but I know it’s so long, which I’m sure is overwhelming so I’m not sure if he’ll go with that. 🤷🏻‍♀️

pebble

I vividly remember the first time I listened to mono. I was actually a baby ARMY - didn't know all that much about their message or discography - and didn't read the lyrics or anything, just went in cold while cleaning my kitchen. It literally brought me to tears. I starting crying while trying to scrub my stove. While of course we'd love a reaction video - I agree with OP: If you ever need a hug and want an album to listen to, this is the one. Filmed first reactions aren't nearly as important.

pebble

Thank you so much for all the time and thought you put into these reactions. I know ARMY (myself included!) always floods your comments with additional background details / analysis about the songs. All of that is great! But, about his songwriting, Namjoon once said something along the lines of "Rather than writing songs that can be understood right way, I'd rather write songs that people come back to over and over again and understand it a bit better each time." (that is paraphrased. i couldn't find the source to quote it exactly) He also is a big believer in listeners coming up with their own interpretations - going so far as to not releasing official lyrics for his second mix tape, 'mono.', because he wanted people to depend on their own ears to derive their own meaning. There are some phrases that still confuse people (is the opening line of Tokyo, 'feel like a torso' or 'feel like a tourist'? who knows?) All that being said, don't worry about absorbing all the facts all at once. Letting the 'flower' of BTS's music, lyrics, videos and storylines slowly unfold and become richer and richer overtime is one of the most rewarding things about their music. So just enjoy it. :-)

-Mac-

This is true, RUN is free on both sites, it's the behind footage and the other things that need $$. Honestly, I love the behind clips, so I buy them. ;)

Suga.Just. Became.Salty.

I definitely recommend BTS The Rise of Bangtan Series 💜✨ it shows their growth

Vanessa

There's a theory that the song Butterfly is about loving someone who is suicidal (and the I NEED U MV has similar themes)

Alicia

Just saying thank you again for doing these long videos. You always do the all the artists that you react to (especially BTS in this case), justice in spending the time to listen and think about and appreciate their music, lyricism and performance. You are by far, my favourite reactor and I cannot wait to listen to their tracks in PROOF in your excellent company. I agree that The Rise of Bangtan Series is the best one to tell their story and gives great context for a lot of their songs dedicated to both their fans, each other and of course to……. their haters. And may I recommend their live performance of House of Cards. It is incredible.

tina 🤍

Can you please react to Map of the soul: O:NE. It was an online concert and I think you would love it. It's my absolute favorite and watch it from time to time. I would be so happy to see your reaction to it. You will be blown away by their great performances and voices! Have a good day!

Michel

If you're hesitant about the Rise of Bangtan series because it's a fan project and not an official release, please know that despite it being a fan-made docu-series, the main narrator is still BTS. ARMY(s) who made it pretty much just edited already existing videos pulled from various sources to "tell the story of Bangtan to the best of their ability" = they let BTS tell the story themselves. There is A LOT of official content that they were able to use, which includes the members' logs, livestreams, interviews, behind the scenes videos, performances, reality shows, etc. It follows their journey from day 1, goes into a lot of details, explains a lot about the Korean/K-pop music industry, Korean culture, the members' individual stories and thoughts, highlights their relationship with ARMY & each other, provides context, motives and inspiration for their musical projects, and so much more. I seriously think it's the best way to get to know the group and its history more. Plus, it's very professionally made, and it's an emotional rollercoaster. I highly, HIGHLY recommend it.

chimelle6

Yes!!! It’s like if you as a fan want to help others understand, know your artist, and their journey, but also are professionally a video editor that is passionate about story telling. Anessa is the name of the army that made it and she said she made it specifically for people that don’t know bts to learn about them. Of course, army loves it so much, but it is made for the intent of someone that isn’t army or new baby army that doesn’t know them yet. She worked on it for 4 years prior to starting to post the episodes and she’s finishing up the last 2 episodes now, which will be 5-6 years now that she is has been putting her heart and soul into this project with no monetary gain, just her love for bts and hope to share that with others.

Michel

I know Anessa, I've been following her for a while on twitter, I just wasn't sure if she's the only one working on the whole project, that's why I used plural. But definitely! It's perfect for baby ARMYs. As we know, there's TONS of content out there and it might feel a bit overwhelming to even figure out where to start. She takes the pressure off and gives you the most important things you need to know, and from there it's up to you what additional content you decide to dive into. Although I could tell the story from beginning to end to my yet-non-existent-children, I still re-watch the whole series from time to time and just laugh and cry and get inspired and fall in love again. Huge respect to Anessa! She's done a phenomenal job.

chimelle6

Agreed and same to all above!! ☺️ Btw I was saying the Anessa part and details for Michael, I figured you knew! I’m sorry if it come off as I was correcting you or something. I just excited about what you said and had to add on to it! 💚💜

san

Thank you for this, I loved every second of the video. The length was the opposite of an issue lol. HYYH era is special, feels a lot like coming home, especially for those, like myself who found the boys around this time. This is home. I honestly can’t put into words how much I have enjoyed your BTS reactions (and just reactions in general of course), your analysis and genuine emotions, it brings a lot of joy. I’m always on the lookout for the notification email :) So thanks again! Take care and enjoy the music, I’ll see you next time

san

Lol yeah I did an analysis of Tokyo and the lit teacher and myself couldn’t even agree on some of the lines. Specifically the word/wave say/sail part. Really beautiful song, all of mono was such a Moment

Anonymous

I really loved how you honored Asian Heritage Month with Crazy Rich Asians, and I was wondering if you were going to do anything similar in June for Pride Month and LGBTQ+ media. I know you've reacted to gay artists before, but I'd love you to give them a spotlight. That could mean a movie, or maybe reacting to Lesbian Jesus herself, pop icon Haley Kiyoko? I just really love your reactions and your attitude and would love to see you honor this community. I'm not at the request level, so I understand if you can't, but I just wanted to try. Have a great day!!!

chimelle6

I’m going to be mad at myself for saying this since I really do want you to do RoB (Rise of Bangtan) the most, but if it is just to much I wanted to say I rewatched some of the interviews people suggested and they really are good ones. I also felt wrong if I didn’t tell you about the Jimmy Fallon episode that he took them around New York as tourists since you’re from there. They are broken down into smaller clips, but when it aired it was all in one episode (if I’m remembering correctly 🤔). It was during a week that they were celebrating New York so some of the clips have New York stories by other celebrities at the end. These ones they’re on the subway during it: • Jimmy asks them questions like their first impressions of each other, career dreams other than what they’re doing, and mots:7 meanings, about 7 minutes: https://youtu.be/v_9vgidPJ8g • Subway Olympics, they play silly games, about 4 minutes: https://youtu.be/-ASZexdSdWE • Jimmy asks questions army asked on Twitter, about 4 minutes: https://youtu.be/jLLAt0eC-yk • At Katz deli pastrami: https://youtu.be/w1wA22Sx0kE Grand central station • Performance of on, about 5 minutes: https://youtu.be/MZh-w2nysuI • Just a little clip of after their performance, about 2 minutes: https://youtu.be/GJbOfFdHGqA Bonus (not part of the Jimmy Fallon episode: this is called a Bangtan bomb, which are posted on the BangtanTV YouTube account. It’s behind the scenes footage that we get of major events (or sometimes just a 2 minute clip of them them fighting over ice cream in a lounge area between shoots or something). This one in particular goes along with them with footage of their thoughts and things while all of these clips were going on but focuses on the performance, about 10 minutes: https://youtu.be/OKy12jb_7EU Extra info on Bangtan bombs: starting in 2019 I believe all of these started having subtitles automatically you just have to turn on your subs but prior to that they weren’t always on there so if you ever come across one you want to watch that doesn’t have subs you can copy and paste the title of it into the search bar and add eng subs after it. Someone will have posted it with the subs! These definitely aren’t as in-depth as the other suggestions of interviews above but pretty fun and didn’t know if any of those locations hold importance to you and you’d really want to see it so shared just in case!

Yeontan™️

OHMYGOD guys I just realized…. dark & wild is next…. I‘m already SHAKING in my boots. „hip hop phile“?? „danger“??? „look here“…. „CYPHER 3“!!!!! whewwwww

clacla

The only thing that is sad is that there are fewer albums to review now. I really like your videos

Mariana

YES YES YEEEEES I'M SO EXCITED FOR DARK AND WILD!!!! But I believe before that one he'll do the Proof reaction though.

Hailey Lee

Holyyyy! It’s such an iconic era! I would love to see how he reacts to jungkook rapping 😂 he would simply faint. And don’t remind me about the intro of that album 🔥🔥 and proof album 🔥🔥 and festa is cominggggggggg

CheshiereCatt

he also still has the rappers mixtapes and solos from the vocalist as for bts content he is going to have more than enough but I agree is a bummer that he just has a few albums left.

Princess Anne Tamayo

Just here crying again over those masterpieces thank you Michael from the bottom of my heart 💜

Anonymous

Thanks for the reaction! Would you be watching the mv for the storyline? It'll be interesting to see what you think

Yukari

I’m listening to this for the third time. 😊 I’m also looking forward to Proof. I wonder if you could do two or three separate reactions, one being CD1 which contains title tracks from each of their albums except for Born Singer. I wonder if you could watch all the MV’s since you’ve listened to the color-coded lyrics. There is a wonderful performance video for Born Singer. For CD2, members each chose two tracks and there are videos (under one minute) in which they each explained why they chose the two. So you could possibly show those and play the two tracks. CD3 contains a new song as well as demos and other unreleased tracks so perhaps you can combine CD2 and CD3 in one reaction. At some point, I think you would enjoy Taylor Nakamoto’s Introduction to the 7 Members video. I think you would enjoy learning a bit about their history and learn more about each members. I also love the Rise of Bangtan series. I learned so much not just about the boys journey but also the cultural context surrounding them as they grew in popularity. Whatever you decide to do for Proof, I’m excited. I’ve truly enjoyed going through each era with you. By the way, I had not heard of Little Mix until discovering your channel and one of my students was so EXCITED that I recognized one of their songs. Lol. I think I instantly became cool to her.

Hi! Whalien 52 is a nickname they call an actual whale. its "the loneliest whale in the world" because its believed to be the only whale that "sings" in 52 hertz which means that other whales cant hear whalien 52. I highly suggest you listening to the song again with this context :)

ltbenthusiast

btw the controversial song... i was not offended by it at all. but im gonna wait until u react to it to tell u about my take on it. BTW, Bang PD is one of their producers and the founder of the company. Since their company was very small in the beginning and close to bankruptcy in the beginning years of BTS (they really turned this tiny company to one of the most profitable companies in Korea), they're very close with Bang PD.

Baepsae is a Gen Z anthem. At least to where I'm from too, the lyrics r so relatable. i love it. There is a video called 'Baepsae, explained by a korean', that you can check out if u want to understand it more. It's possibly their most political song

the Young Forever in the Wembley Stadium, where the fans and staff surprised BTS by preparing a part of the show where the FANS, the thousands of fans singing Young Forever TO the boys. It was so emotional and beautiful. I hope u can see it in ur own time if u want

Whalien 52 - about the 52 hertz whale, which is a real whale!! He sings at a frequency other whales don't hear/respond to, so he's described as "the loneliest creature in the world". I think recent research has shown that some other whales CAN in fact hear him, but it isn't common.

"NEVER MIND it’s not easy but engrave it onto your chest If you feel like you’re going to crash then accelerate more, you idiot." Jimin literally tattooed "NEVERMIND" to his ribs, it was his first tattoo, a reminder I assume, to keep going This is one of my favorite songs, I imagine it's one of Jimin's as well. Jimin also got "Young Forever" tattooed to the back of his arms, above his elbows, Young Forever is a song that helped him through very difficult times, Jimin said.

Converse high is one of the simplest BTS songs that some people doubted if it was really so straight forward. There are some fan theories that say BTS intentionally mentioned brands to mess with live broadcasting. When they perform it for tv shows, they had to change "converse high" to "lovers high" and they also changed chanel, alexander mmcqueen and raf simons https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yz0h_4g9Ab8

Amazing reaction and insight on the HYYH album! For a more understanding of BTS' roots and story, I suggest watching The Rise of Bangtan Docuseries, free on Youtube and made by ARMY. BTS' story is one of the most inspiring stories I've ever come across, hence why I'll be their eternal fan. Their songs struck such a chord to their individualities and people who have been following their journey.

Anonymous

I need u, Run, and Young Forever has music videos! They're part of the Bangtan Universe, which is a storyline inside their music videos. One of the most tragic storylines I've come across :(

Anonymous

HYYH is the beginning of the BTS Universe (BU)! The BU basically links all the music videos into one fictional storyline (and its still on going!!). Theres so much content to go through if youre interested to go down this rabbit hole but its worth the ride. It's what made me into an ARMY. :) There are music videos, short films, webtoons, a game, and some books. But if you want to start this journey, start with the HYYH videos in this order: 1. I NEED U 2. on stage: prologue - short film 3. RUN 4. Young Forever Here's a link with english subs for the prologue but its kinda low quality and the official uploaded video didnt have subs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDkseQw2Mg4&t=18s You can try watching the official video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bt8648TNX1M) for higher quality then just check that video for the subs when they have dialogue lol

Eden 🩵

omgg we are getting into growl V and jungkook rap territory 😁

Eden 🩵

also they're saying we are the boys with fun but also it's a play on their name which is 'BangTan Sonyeondan' and they're saying we are 'Heungtan Sonyeondan' and Heung means fun in Korean, so they're basically saying we are 'FunTan Sonyeondan' 😆

Anonymous

if you've watched the 4 videos, you go read the Save Me Webtoon before watching the rest :)

OMG !!! Michael I love your reactions so much! Can’t wait for you to see some of the lives for those songs. “hold me tight” and “ butterfly” are a must watch. BTS live is another level! Kisses from Brazil!

I would definitely recommend an introduction video if you want to get to know the members better. The Member Introduction video by Taylor Nakamoto is amazing and a quick ish way to learn about each member as individuals and as artists. If you want something that actually details their journey alongside the introduction video, I would recommend the Rise of Bangtan fan-made docu-series. It gives a super in-depth journey of the members both as artists and as people. It also details information about the K-pop industry and even the social issues in South Korea that BTS address so frequently in their music and helps you understand the culture a lot better. It is agreed by fans universally that the docu-series is amazing enough to be put on Netflix so if that is something that interests you, you should check it out💜

chimelle6

The BU is a lot! When/if you go through all the mv’s I wouldn’t skip bu related things (like the ones above they’re great) but I would say just have fun with them! It can be overwhelming and confusing. In addition to the things listed above there are some ‘notes’ booklets in some of the albums (in Korean but have been translated online). It’s a lot but if you do get interested and want to dive deep in the BU armys have put together videos to help piece it all together and explain it. I’m hoping with proof there will be a video or two kind of wrapping it up so it all makes more sense and it’s largely a very sad storyline and I want some happy closure! But you don’t need to know everything to enjoy the mv’s!

Anonymous

@Michelle I agree 100%! Super excited how Proof will play into the BU, too! fan theories are hinting that the recent concept photos are hinting to the bathroom in RUN but im not so sure about it hahaha

chimelle6

I agree Taylor’s intro video is one of the best I’ve seen to do a quick intro on the boys, about an hour, but I think she currently has it hidden because she is making edits to it to make some changes from armys suggestions?? And as always yesss to RoB lol always my top pick! So good!

Whalien 52 is about the 52 hertz whale. This is a whale that was tracked by the Navy for like 10 yrs or something. This whale emits its call at a frequency higher than any other whale so it is not able to communicate with any other whales and so it is called the loneliest whale in the ocean. They speculate that it is blind and that contributes to it's unusual frequency. So in this song BTS is comparing themselves to this lonely whale. Bapsae is a song that comes from a Korean idiom that if a crow tit walks like a stork it will tear its legs. Crow tits represent the millennial generation in this song. DKDKTV has an great explanation video for this song. If you like the dancing you should watch the dance practice videos . The fire dance practice video is so cool. you can see the choreo fully. Save me is the precursor to the song I'm Fine. I'm Fine starts with a sampling of Save me. If you want to cry watch the Wembly fans singing Forever Young. To get to know BTS personalities Run BTS is a great series. It's hilarious and full of inside jokes and silliness and the Rise of Bangtan series is a great documentary series about the bands growth

spoopyjhope

This isn't confirmed and might be really heavy but many theorize that Butterfly is a song about loving a suicidal person.

Eden 🩵

Run is my favourite bts music video, there are some that should be watched in order but seriously that music video is so joyful and beautiful as part of the bangtan universe

Anonymous

It would be awesome if you delved into their personalities! It seems that jungkook is your bias and jungkook is a pretty quiet person - pretty introverted. He's truly an ace in all categories as well, run bts really displays everything they can do while having fun. The interviews would be a good place to start :)

Booryanne

I jotted down some notes while I watched! It's a very long comment, but I think I added some excellent information! Suga is a massive fan of basketball and used to play a lot. He picked his stage name "Suga" because it's short for Shooting Guard, which is his favorite position to play. Suga loves to use metaphors to put his mental struggles into a way people can understand them better. The way he paints a picture in your mind about playing basketball as a backdrop for anxiety is impressive. Yes!!!! People sleep on I Need U when they get into the newer stuff. It's a beautiful-sounding song. Something about the production is instant serotonin. And if you pair it with the MV (the first installment of the Bangtan Universe), it gives you CHILLS. Hold Me Tight was Taehyungs (V) songwriting debut! Ugh, I'm not surprised that people would tell you that HYYH wouldn't be your favorite, but I genuinely think that people just don't go back enough to their older albums, so they get muddied in their minds. I believe if HYYH came out today, it would chart just as high as anything else. Wake Up is a Japanese album, so many of the songs will be Japanese versions of songs from the albums preceding it. "Can underage people file for a tax deduction" was, in fact, jungkook, and he was underage at the time this skit was released, so he was asking for himself. Watching you react to Dope reminds me of how strange it is that you know so much about BTS and their music, but you're missing (so far!) Half of what BTS is! Hahaha. That's not a bad thing. It's just something I don't think I've ever seen in a reactor. I think Dope is a perfect example of BTS. The "We will work until we drop, but only because we choose to, and we will love ourselves and think we're pretty dope for it." Attitude is precisely them. It's like a manifesto, haha. The end of the Dope video broke your brain in half, and I lauuuughed and lauuuuuuughed. 😭🤣 The costumes in Dope are representative of the fact that they are putting in work. Lol. It's like a visual representation of the concept of the song. BOYS WITH FUN AHHHH, you need to watch this live. You need to listen to this in your car on the way to something fun. You just need to appreciate how FUN THIS SONG IS. You don't need to do anything. I'm just kidding. But it's one of my all-time favorites and captures their personalities outside of music. I love it so much that I can not stop smiling when I hear it. Yes, that's V! He was a growly boy at the beginning. Ngl, I miss it, but I bet it was hard on his voice. Converse High makes me laugh to this day. Especially Yoongis verse. He's like, "screw the entire concept of this song. I hate converse." 🤭😉😉😉 I can't explain it, but Jin shines in Converse High. Converse High is just a sweet, silly lil song, and I appreciate that. Moving On/Move is one of those songs I think people forget about, but it's so so special to me. "This place smells like us. Let's not forget this scent wherever we are." 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 So the context for this song that I'm not sure you know or knew they had lived together (all 7 of them) since before they debuted. So they are moving because they have finally started to gather success enough to upgrade to a place with more room. At this point, they were all sleeping in one room (the 7 of them + their manager. 8 people sleeping in bunk beds side by side.) So the significance of them moving on is the bittersweetness of leaving the place where it all began but looking forward to the future and reminding themselves to keep this place tight in their memories so they will always stay true to themselves. 😭😭😭 AHHHHH shoot, Intro Nevermind is one of those songs that has solidified why Yoongi feels like he writes music for me. Haha. His songs always feel personal to my struggles, like he wrote them with me in mind and telling me to dust my knees off and go. "moss surely grows on a stone that doesn't turn" you have to move, or you will get stuck. They are a lot more aggressive at the beginning. They are still aggressive but have different ways of expressing their points. They have always cursed, though. It's just not all the time. BTW, Jimin has "Nevermind" tattooed on his side ❤️ Run is another MV in the BU, it's probably my favorite music video of theirs, but I'm BU trash. (and it's genuinely good storytelling) You probably won't be surprised, but Flowers have a significant role to play in the BU storyline as well, hahaha. ( no spoilers, just saying ) Butterfly is a masterpiece. It's so beautiful its moved me to actual physical tears before. It's nostalgic. It's longing. It's cinematic…. gah, this entire series is criminally good. I genuinely respect how they moved on from love songs, and I love what they have done for the content of their new songs, but the way they used to write romantic lyrics cuts me to my core. Whalien 52 Is an essential song to BTS and Army. Once you start watching videos (if you do), you will notice whales often show up. The concept of the song is a metaphor. For context, here is some info on the (real life!) whale they are talking about: "The 52-hertz whale is an individual whale of unidentified species, which calls at the unusual frequency of 52 Hz. This pitch is a much higher frequency than the other whale species with migration patterns most closely resembling this whale’s – the blue whale (10–39 Hz) or fin whale (20 Hz). It has been detected regularly in many locations since the late 1980s and appears to be the only individual emitting a whale call at this frequency. It has been described as the “world’s loneliest whale”. they are using this whale as a metaphor for themselves I love Ma City because they all describe their hometowns in a way that catches the vibes of the place. You can feel the aura of the areas each time a member speaks. I suggest going and looking at the doolset translations for Ma City because there are so many references and things that seem small but add to the portrait of the cities they come from. For a small example, in Jhopes verse: "내 발걸음이 산으로 간대도 무등산 정상에 매일 매일 Though my footsteps lead me to the mountains, I’ll be at the peak of Mudeungsan every day. Mudeungsan is a mountain that represents Gwangju, which hosts a national park that is also a UNESCO Global Geopark. 산으로 가다 (going to the mountains) is often used to describe someone’s digressing from the topic/goal. Combining the two, this line could be read “Though I might not walk along the determined path for success, I will succeed.” Baepsae!!!! THEY CALL ME... Baepsae is one of BTS's most famous songs, I think. The legend of this song will never die from the highly political message to the INSANE performances to the immediate likability of the beat. It's infectious. This is one of those that you are really missing out without watching the performances! It's a perfect example of a bop that makes you think and shake your ass simultaneously, which BTS are masters at. Also, Suga twerks in the dance practice, so there is that. Lmao. Dead Leaves/ Autumn Leaves is in my top 3 BTS tracks. Suga produced it, and it just so happens that the other two in my top favorites are a prod. Suga as well. It's not on purpose. It just happened that way. Lol, but with Dead Leaves, I think the production gets me. There is so much going on in this song audibly. Not even in regards to the lyrics. House of Cards is another one of those songs that will live on forever. It's tragic, but the music is so sexy. The lyrics are heartbreaking. I think what they did so well with this series of songs is they did well capturing the angst of longing. Whether it's longing for the past, longing for a relationship to stay, longing for everything, and considering the age range they all were around this time, you can understand those world-ending emotions. Everything ending feels like a little death. You are desperate to grasp onto a thing you placed your identity on. Fire! Fire was the song that hooked me on BTS. I heard Dope first, but Fire was what did it for me. The fun-loving energy, the choreography, everything. Don't feel bad for rewinding videos! We encourage it because 1) it shows your invested and like something, which is lovely to see! 2) a lot is going on, and we appreciate you wanting to catch it all! A lot of work goes into these videos! And yeah, it's pretty common to watch a video 7 times just to focus on one member. I'm pretty sure that's how member focus fancams started, haha. Save Me!!!! I'm so stoked we have all these videos today! I love it! And I BET you are going to love this song. Do you remember the song I’m Fine? That song is directly connected to this. Entire verses mirror each other, and the song Save Me is in the background of I’m Fine in reverse. We like your video reactions, so please don't feel insecure from our end. You don't need to analyze everything. We enjoy watching someone who has never seen something we love to be impressed or moved, or whatever the case is. Young Forever… Wow, this song. When I hear it, I'm brought back to their concert at Wembley Stadium, where they sold out entirely for two days. Staff for the show and Army surprised the guys in the middle of their set by singing this song at them with background music and words to the song on the screens. The crowd singing this song so loud moved the guys to tears. All of them shed tears. It was such a beautiful moment. Anyways, I love your reactions and Im always so excited to see you react to more.

DanielleM

Thank you so much for these reactions!!! Honestly it felt too short, now I'm sad I finished the video! Lol! This era of BTS's music is where they start doing more my style of music. I really gravity to they're softer, more intimate songs. Of course, I still love their hype ones too, lol!

uncannybangtan

Young Forever is so special to many army. I was there in Wembley at the concert on the day when there was a special project announced in the later part of the show asking us to sing Young Forever to the boys just before the final song Mikrocosmos. They weren't expecting it at all - they cried, we cried, it was a messy emotional but beautiful moment for all of us and I'm forever thankful that I chose to go in the end. Honestly this whole era was when I became an army back in 2016 and it was the first BTS album I purchased - I was 23 and lived in Korea and didn't even know who BTS were, but I checked them out when others mentioned them and their music helped me a lot while I was struggling with trying to figure out what the heck I wanted to do with my life. Yoongi's first mixtape especially really saved me when I was in a god awful place. At that time I wasn't ready to grow up yet and I missed my high school friends a lot (I ran around in a group of 6 girls and we caused a lot of chaos haha) and seeing them run around like that in their music videos together and watching their other content, rather than feeling jealous of them, it made me appreciate the beauty of the friendship that I had with my high school friends back then.

Really want him to watch BU videos. All in one sitting even. I personally think you just can't fully understand BTS until you get into the BU. Hope he gets to that one day

MinSugasonly1

I love your reviews and hope you do the individual mixtapes soon too. The greatest moments in life is one of my fav albums.

MinSugasonly1

When the guys performed at wembly stadium the crowd surprised them by singing young forever. The guys shocked by this cried. Imagine 90,000 fans from England singing a Korean song. It truly shows that music crosses all languages and barriers.

Another banger of a reaction! I really can’t wait until you get into the mixtapes. 🙌🏼 Suga AKA AgustD’s 2 mixtapes in particular. ✨ I think you’d like D2 the most as a full album, but his 1st self titled mixtape has a lot of absolute lyrical bangers! ❤️‍🔥 I’m majorly looking forward to the future of you reactions. Love watching your journey ❤️

I highly recommend you watch The Rise of Bangtan. You will learn their full history since the beginning and know their personalities. It is really worth watching.

chimelle6

Agreed! And I think you should do the two agust d mixtapes in order because he has some hints back to the first mixtape in the second. I recommend watching the mv’s for both but if you don’t do all of them just know he has blond hair during the first mixtape. For the second mixtape I highly recommend watching the mv for daechwita for your first listen to that song! The blond hair thing is important in that and knowing his thought process in the first mixtape adds a lot, but that mv is probably my favorite mv of all time, it’s just so visually stunning! Try to avoid spoilers until you do it! There was a recent release of Psy and suga called that that and I think the mv of that ties in with daechwita!

Sad that he didn't watch I need U and Run MVs. And he didn't listen to the remixes cause some of those remixes are really great

Thank you for this wonderful reaction. 💜

What I absolutely love about this is that years ago Yoongi wrote “Never-mind, it’s not easy but engrave it on your chest” and sweet Jimin took that personally and tattooed “never mind” on his ribs a few years later. Yoongi’s lyrics are always so real and touching, just wait until you hear his solo music, it’s so authentic. Until next time, take care!

Anonymous

I think a whole different interpretation of these songs can be found if you replaced the thought of a significant other with their dreams. I have always done so, and it's a different kind of pain to see them singing about this obsessive love they have, the way they know it hurts, but cannot let go

Kaliyah

Loved this reaction ❤️, I would really love if you maybe would consider checking out Tate Mcrae’s Debut Album called I Used To Think I Could Fly, it has no skips & I think you’d enjoy somewhat 🫶🏾

Whalien 52 has one of my favorite inspirations. It's based on a real whale who was discovered some years ago that brays at a frequency of 52 Hertz. Which is anomalous for whales and it's the only one of its kind. So other whales can't hear it. So it doesn't have a pod or community. It just travels around the oceans on its own calling out with no response. The boys use its story as a metaphor for being alienated. There's a charity that tracks and supports the 52 Hertz whale and ARMYs have donated to it frequently over the years. It also talks a lot about the BTS song as a sort of unofficial theme song. And the production in the back is supposed to mimic a whale call. Whales are a very important signal to BTS and ARMY now.

SNBangtan

Also, Fun Boys (more commonly called Boyz with Fun) is primarily a concert piece. It's a BLAST on stage. They are musicians first but they've always been known for their performance so they definitely write songs with the concert in mind. The energy they bring during Boyz with Fun is next level. It's so fun to watch!

Will you ever do a BTS guide video or their 'Nobodies to Legends'?

Meredith Posch

New to Patreon because I just had to see your reaction to House of Cards and Butterfly. I knew you would be overwhelmed and love them. I just love how flustered you got at the end watching the videos. If you want to be even more impressed, watch the dance practices of any song you have reacted to. The choreo elevates the song that much more!! I will say that Save Me video is double impressive because it was shot in one take. There is a "behind the scenes" you can watch to see how they did it. The choreo for Butterfly is beautiful and there is also a "Prologue mix" version of Butterfly that is extra beautiful.

Seneca

Every time they release an album, RM does a long livestream where he goes through every track and explains the process of how it came to be. He often shares demos and scratched versions of the song. I feel like you'd really enjoy the streams! They're available for playback on VLive (BTS' primary streaming platform), but people also screenrecord them and post them on youtube. And yes, I *had* to stop by and join your Patreon for your Part 2 reaction haha. I really do hope you start getting into shows that show their personality– they genuinely have such great senses of humor and a wholesome, playful dynamic as brothers. And also learning their history of how they started from absolutely nothing, recording their albums in a garage, their "dance studio" being in a basement, living all 7 in one room w/ bunkbeds.. it's incredible. They literally pushed themselves to the top, all with their talent/lyricism etc.

Maria

hi Michael, i’ve been quietly watching your videos and i love the way you break down albums and lyrics. if i may recommend this video (https://youtu.be/Tt9x61AL50E) is a more recent ‘interview’ where bts talk about all of their albums.

Nadilynn

thank you. Truly grateful to see you love what has saved me, saved me in so many ways. Thank you.

I really suggest watching interviews before any shows. The shows can be confusing even knowing the members very well so I think its best to get to know their personalities and humor/habitsfrom interviews first. A perfect interview that includes album talk is " BTS break down their Albums" (Pitchfork) https://youtu.be/Tt9x61AL50E You've listened to the majority of their albums so this is perfect!

The Prologue Mix of Butterfly from their Young Forever album is my all-time favorite BTS song. I know you already listened to the "original" version of Butterfly here, but I think the Prologue Mix is worth hearing as well. It is so gorgeous and in my opinion better than the original.

Hi Michael, I really enjoyed watching this video. Ever since The News, I wanted to go back and listen to their older stuff again, and watching this with you was exactly what I needed.
