I've seen a couple comments about bonus episodes. When (if at all) does it make sense to watch those and does anyone know where I can find them? Reallyyyy enjoyed this first season!!

I really think that you should watch the 2 specials about rue and jules because it explains so much especially for jules like there's an aspect that is never explored in the show at ALL except in that special and honestly those specials are REALLY great to get the two pov of the characters. Really excited to see your reaction to season 2 and maybe to the specials!

Would highly recommend the 2 special episodes before getting into S2. They were filmed during the pandemic to bridge the long gap between seasons and are very different to the normal episodes, much more character focused and dialogue heavy but from everything you've pointed out watching season 1 I think you'd enjoy them. The acting is great and imo they're pretty essential to getting a better grasp of where rules and jules are at individually in their own mind space before season 2 kicks off

I’m glad you enjoyed S1 overall! I agree that while it’s a lot to handle, it’s very unique and intriguing. I’m very very interested to hear your thoughts on S2 and where the story goes! Thank you!

One thing I love about this show (and something I think too many people miss out on) is how important perspective is. For example, with the hoodie. As the audience we learned that it was her father’s hoodie, which reminds us of Jules’ comment. So it can come across as Jules trying to “change Rue”. But Jules doesn’t know what we know. She’s just making a random comment about making her friend wear a dress to the dance. It’s the same thing with the Anna thing. Jules and Rue aren’t in a relationship, but from Rue’s perspective, which is what we see, she portrays them as such. Which is why it was a big deal to Rue but not a big deal to Jules. Remembering perspective and what the characters themselves know and having empathy is really important for this show.

Also at the end when Zendaya is singing it’s not a music video per se it’s supposed to represent Rue’s relapse and what is going on on her mind at that point and it just happened to fit as a m/v as well. It’s indeed can feel a little odd without context

Definitely watch the special episodes - hunter scheafer cowrote her episode which was amazing. However season 2's writing is a giant mess so I would keep expectations low for it honestly.

I think the special episodes are great. They were shot during the pandemic to give viewers content while they waited for the second season to get made and provide a lot of interesting insight into Rue and Jules. I also just love how they are shot and love anything that Ali is in :) They're on HBO max but separate from the normal seasons so you might need to search for them

viola

the special episodes are so good, i’m sure you’ll love them

Did you hear Jungkook's Euphoria from LY:Answer in the last episode? 🥺

I've never seen this show before, so I freaked out when I heard them playing "Smalltown Boy" by Bronski Beat in ep 6! I think Judy and Lenny are probably Judy Garland and Lenny Bruce.

I know i'm late lmao but i dont know if anyone told you this but in the episode where lexi and rue do a like « cop » movie and try to solve the nate thing, they are not replicating a movie, rue is manic, that's why she's hyperfocused on the case and doesn't sleep at all. Then she has a depressive episode. This ep really shows how rue deals with bipolarity :/ and i dont know if you noticed but Daniel is the little boy in the Kat flashbacks! thats why she says they dated for 5 months, it was true! He's the little guy who always supported her and didn't care that she put on weight.
