I was so looking forward to your 'tick, tick, boom' and 'in the heights' reactions, can't wait until they're back up!

juliana simpson

i know you uploaded this so long ago so you may not see this but why is this video now unavailable? just wondering!

Aysia Gilbert

I definitely think you should watch RENT. Because it’s the definition of him writing what he knows as a reflection of this movie

Jonathan Malamy

I just watched your Hamilton reaction. And it's interesting to think about the "running out of time" theme in both. And I've heard Lin speak about that urgency in some of his interviews. If you continue to loved Andrew Garfield's performance life, I suggest watching his epic performance in Angels in America which is available through the National Theatre Live. (The same show he and Nathan Lane also headed on Broadway).

Rowan Cannell

Is this video still available?

I found out you reacted to this and stayed up to watch it IMMEDIATELY! I checked the other comments and have some nuggets for you: -> Lin spoke to a mutual friend of his and Andrew's and asked if he could sing, as he was looking to cast this film. THE FRIEND LIED ahahahha. Andrew ended up fessing up and asked how much time they had. He then proceeded to *learn how to sing* to prepare for the role. -> The person Michael is based on is still alive 💚 -> The aneurism that killed Jonathan is thought to have been caused by undiagnosed Marfan Syndrome. It would have been preventable had anyone known. -> He really did die the night that RENT was to have its first preview -> Andrew 100000% deserved the Oscar for Best Actor, and personally I think he only didn't get it because not enough industry people weren't willing to sit through a musical starring Spiderman. I will be forever salty. -> The song 'Why' was recorded on set. As you can see, it would have been just impossible to get the dubbing perfectly right on such an emotional song! Your reaction is EVERYTHING I hoped for and I'm so glad I stayed up! Lots of love right back to you 💚💚💚💚

Such a good movie! I will gladly watch this with you again. ❤️

McKenna DeFranco

this is an unexpected surprise and i am SO excited!!

heather

yesss!

“Sunday” has so many cameos!! i know you’re not a big theater person so i didn’t expect you to catch them but i definitely recommend reading about it because it shows the care that Lin put into this scene & the movie in general that makes it Avengers Endgame level for theater kids haha! https://www.cbr.com/tick-tick-boom-every-broadway-cameo-in-sunday/amp/ the people you may recognize besides lin are phillipa soo & renée elise goldsberry who played eliza & angelica in hamilton and daphne ruben-vega who was in in the heights, but more importantly originated the role of mimi in rent!

Nicki

I love that you picked this one out to watch!! Also, seeing this really will set you up well to really understand and really appreciate Rent if you are to watch it....I think it's way more tragic though now to watch Rent seeing more of how Jonathan Larson was as a person with tick tick boom and knowing he was never able to see Rent on Broadway. Amazing watch Michael and I agree with you, I don't think anyone better than Andrew Garfield could have done Jonathan better!

Jordan S

This movie is so so good! All the acting, singing and directing was just top-notch! I'm assuming you haven't seen RENT, Jonathan's big hit musical, but it majorly focuses on the AIDS epidemic as well which was pretty revolutionary. Also, Jazmine Sullivan is probably one of my favourite artists, she is phenomenal! Loved watching the movie again with you!

Musical Dinosaur

This is now one of my favorite movies of all time. It was the only new dec netflix release I was looking forward to & I watched it 1 day after its release & have been obsessed w/ it since. It's the best movie musical I've seen yet & I hope all future movie musicals turn out as good as this did. I was waiting for your reaction & I'm so glad I got to rewatch this movie w/ you :)

Jayde Ritchey

I'm so happy that I got to watch this via... you lol I was sort of avoiding it because I knew I would cry, and I did. There's a documentary about Jonathan Larson that was released with the DVD of RENT back in 2005 that I kept thinking of throughout this whole film. I think Andrew did an utterly brilliant job of capturing Jonathan's essence; his physicality and vocal cadence really evoked Jonathan without being an outright imitation of him. Lin really knocked it out of the park with this. I'm so, so, so impressed with how everything translated to the screen, and the respect that he showed for Jonathan's work. I really suggest looking into RENT and/or the documentary. Thank you so much for posting your reaction to this <3

Richard

You should watch RENT.

Joudie

AHHH YES FINALLY

Vivian Betancourt

you should watch the interviews about this film with the cast and with Lin, they explain the cameos, even the sister of Jonathan Larson its in there and there's an interview with Andrew if im not mistaken its with jimmy kimmel when he explain the process of this movie and how it helped him to heal and grieff the death of his mother and that interview its just idk how to explain it, the way andrew talks its just amazing

Mikayla

yes now watch rent!!!!

Robyn Epstein

basically everyone in the diner song is a famous broadway figure

Robyn Epstein

and yes, agreed that you NEED to watch Rent... you'll love it

Kayde

I'm so glad you reacted to this! I loved this movie with my whole heart, and Andrew did such an absolutely astounding job in it seems like every scene. You should watch Rent as well, It's such an amazing musical and I think you really would like it! :)

Rhett Samios

This was just fantastic. The obvious next step is Rent

Whitney McGriff

As everyone else is suggesting RENT, but watch RENT on broadway.. it's filmed just like Hamilton. The movie is great too.

Rachel (she+her)

I definitely agree, RENT is a must, but also I recommend Rent: filmed live on Broadway rather than the movie. It has Renee Elise Goldsberry in it who you may remember as Angelica from Hamilton. It's much better than the film, as they cut out quite a bit. Loved this reaction:)

Lisa Reid (Sophrishea)

I love this film so much. Rent is one of my all time favorites and Andrew Garfield REALLY impressed!

KyraB

I like both the filmed live on Broadway version and the film. I would strongly suggest reacting to both versions. Just not sure which should be first. Film has most of the original Broadway cast and they are fantastic but yes being a film some things do get cut

2023-05-04 15:54:58 Not a native English speaker, and just now, watching this reaction, I realise “come to your senses” means literally “get out of your head” a bit like saying “step into your body”. I think it’s a beautiful thing to say to Jonathan- this whole time he was looping in his head. At the pool he finally came to senses. And even when the song came, it was through senses- seeing, hearing. Anyway, I love this reaction. Mostly I’m glad you got to watch this movie. Andrew is incredible. Honestly as you said, it doesn’t feel like watching a grate actor, it feels like it’s actually Jonathan on screen. Hope you’ll watch rent soon, I think you’ll really like it.

I know everyone is suggesting RENT and I agree! But also considering how much you liked Hamilton and In The Heights as well, I think you should watch Encanto! It’s having its YouTube moment 😂 Or even just a few songs - We Dont Talk About Bruno (obv) or my personal favorite Surface Pressure. I think you’d really enjoy them!

Thelsea Harmon

I would die if you reacted to Chicago, have you seen it? It’s one of the best if not the best adaptation of a stage musical to a movie ever!

Yenelly Tejada

Someone said the diner scene was like the avengers of musicals Lmaoo! It had so many Broadway stars. Including Angelica and Eliza from Hamilton, and one of the characters from in the heights I believe Daniela. Lastly, I sobbed like a baby watching this 😭

Janet Michelle

I hadn't seen this but...omg if Andrew isn't nominated/wins an Oscar for this performance I will be so mad!!! This was incredible.

Paige

Tick, tick, boom is an incredible tribute to an incredible man. Thank you for watching it with us, Michael. I’m glad you enjoyed it.

I was geeking out real hard when i recognised so many faces from watching broadway performances over the years. I had no idea there were so many, and there were so many people who worked specifically wth lin and sondheim performance regulars
