there is a livestream that ashton did (im pretty sure it was the day superbloom was released) where he explained each song and kind of their meaning and i really recommend watching that because it provides good insight into this album :)

Something I love about the solo songwriting efforts (from Ashton and now Luke) is the vulnerability and authenticity. The instrumentation and production is so good. Thanks for your reaction, appreciation and insights as always. 😊

watching you fall in love with this album made me so happy!! i love it so much, to the point where i don't know if i love superbloom or calm more (and calm is my fave 5sos album too!) fun fact (though please someone correct me if i'm wrong) he wrote/recorded this exclusively at his house with his roommate matt pauling, who's a singer/songwriter/producer! i believe he's produced quite a few songs for 5sos too! thank you for your reaction!!

ashton wrote this album during quarantine - it was released october 2020!! meanings behind the tracks based on what ashton has said & my own interpretations :) SCAR- ashton wrote that this song is a “message to my family, a message for anyone that listens, about perseverance through periods of intense struggle.” as you picked up on he directly addresses his sister Lauren & also sings to his mother & his brother harry have u found what ur looking for?- focuses on battling your mind (as many songs on the album do) and ashton’s want to break through the wall he put up for himself and find clarity when it comes to his mental health struggles that he had been dulling & ignoring by drinking heavily for years - he was a year and a half sober when he wrote this album :) skinny skinny- this song is about his struggles with body dismorphia as you said - i HIGHLY recommend watching the music video it is stunningly beautiful greyhound- greyhound dogs have been inhumanely raced for years. they’re bred for work and are forced to work until they get injured/sick and lose their value to those who profit off them. in these races they’re constantly chasing a fake rabbit around a track that they’ll never catch. (“blood of the rabbit it stains my teeth”) ashton wrote this song about constantly grinding to hopefully achieve goals. it also is a commentary on the cycle of capitalism basically and how many people are worked to the bone just to survive until they die. where he’s from in australia most people are blue collar workers who fall into this trap. ashton said, “Greyhound is my own perspective on the work and grind cycle that we experience in life…In many ways, I am the greyhound as well, and always have been, with a deep desire to push forwards and never take backwards steps even if I catch the rabbit, I’ll always be on the track racing, cause that’s the way society made me. But if I don’t work hard for my dreams? Who will.” matter of time- your interpretation was pretty much spot on he’s singing about how things will get better with time and how we must have patience with ourselves i’m currently taking off in an airplane lol but i’ll be back with tracks 6-10 when i land! okay i’m back lol sunshine- this one has the most pandemic influence with the lyrics about the news & being locked in the house but the general message is find the happiness or “sunshine” in the world and chase that instead of dwelling on the negative the sweetness- this song is about the battle with depression & mental health struggles or “the darkness” and trying to find ways to cope i’m to blame- if i remember correctly i believe ashton said this song is about a mushroom trip & expanding your mind & blowing your friend’s mind when your share some crazy info you thought of on the trip lol drive- my favorite song on the album!! ashton wrote this one for his partner kaykay after her father passed away and i think it’s just such a beautiful song perfect lie- this song addresses ashton’s feelings of growing up in the music industry in 5sos & sacrificing artistic integrity to sell records/concert tickets and such (in the early days) here’s the livestream of ashton talking about each song! i neeeeed you and ashton to talk one day because i think you’ll see just from this 27 minute video how like-minded y’all are as people :) https://youtu.be/tglSrbO3Vuc
