I love the show but I always thought it should have ended here. Perfect final scene of Lucas and Nathan playing basketball.

Portia Crain

I love how they show that Nathan is Dan's soft spot... Nathan is literally the only times we have seen him have any heart.. (could argue that Karen this last season but even that I feel was brought on by guilt of killing her babies father)!!!! This finale is my fav tv season final of any show the way they wrapped all the things up is chefs kisses!!! They weren't aware if it would be renewed for another season so I think helped with wrapping it all up!

Brianna Lord

Ok, whoever told you that the series drops off in the second half lied to you. The second half of the series is the best!

CGoerlich

Have you been to the OTH Reddit thread? Because there are a lot of negative posts and comments to the second half (specifically 7-9) and I don't understand it! I loved the later seasons as well as the first half.

Kelsie Brake

i loved the later seasons too! it was a different vibe but still really good.

Ashley Kinney

You’re spot on, they did write this as a series finale! They didn’t know if it was going to be renewed for another season!

As usual, I loved your reaction to these two episodes. If I remember correctly, Voldemort (what the cast calls the creator now) said that whether they knew or didn't know the show would be picked up for another season, he would end the high school era exactly like this episode. So either way, we would have had this episode. And I LOVED the finale episode with all the callbacks, especially the Nathan/Lucas basketball scene at the end. So well done. Paul Johannsson is now and forever will be the genius behind Dan Scott. This show wouldn't be what it is if a different actor played the role. Perfect casting! I can't wait for you to start Season 5. And yes, some people don't necessarily love the later seasons, but honestly, some of the best episodes are in those seasons. So please, even if you think it falls off (you might not even think it, I loved all of the seasons), I need you to complete the whole series to get the feel of the overall show. All right, I think that's all I got. Can't wait for the next upload!

Jana Fuller

Yay I really needed this today!

The reasons why Buffy, The Good Place and Fleabag are some of my favourite shows is knowing when it’s time to end. I have the utmost respect for a show that writes an end, knows it and sticks to it. I’ve loved many shows that go on too long or end badly but I just appreciate exercising self control in the interest of good art. Particularly Fleabag, that show could’ve gone on forever and I would’ve watched. But two very short seasons and they cut the cord, it’s the most perfect ending of any show for me. I didn’t want it to go on because of how perfect a conclusion it was for the show. Anyway, I love this finale and I would’ve liked for it to end here but I love a lot of what’s to come as well. I don’t know what to say about season 5, there’s a lot I love about it but it’s definitely different. But you know one tree hill, it’s always fun and it’s always messy as fuck!!

1) That scene with Dan and Nathan was definitely very powerful. Powerfully acted by both James and Paul. I also thinks it's so fascinating how the one person that Dan could not lie to was Nathan. Dan is an evil son of a bitch but I do think in a weird kind of way it's sort of moving how he could not lie to Nathan. Personally I don't think that Dan has truly loved anyone in his life except for Nathan. As to the scene where Deb tells Nathan... I totally understand where Nathan is coming from because just like Nathan is the only person that Dan has truly loved, I also believe that Nathan has the most complicated relationship with his father. As much as he hates him most of the time because of the physical, mental, and verbal abuse he has endured from Dan, he's also had some good times with Dan. Unfortunately that is not an uncommon plight for people who suffer abuse. The abusers tend to love bomb people or sometimes do nice things that reel you in. It's sad but it's realistic. It's hard for Nathan to swallow the pill that his father is a murderer. I mean it's one thing to be a generally horrible person but what Dan did was next level evil and I think it would be a hard pill for most people. The reason that Lucas and Deb were able to swallow it is because they saw only the bad in Dan. In a way I'm glad that Deb told Nathan because it turned out fine and I'm not sure that Dan would have turned himself in if Nathan hadn't confronted him... but I also think that was a dangerous decision on Deb's part to go to Nathan with no proof. It could have really turned out badly and it almost did. (2) This episode really does feel like a series finale but I'm so excited for you to see the future seasons. Seasons 6, 7, and 9 are some of my favorite future seasons.

as well as this episode ties up what we've seen, and yes it could definitely exist as the series finale, i'm very happy it wasn't because there's so much to come that i absolutely love. some of my favorite episodes, storylines and moments happen after this. i completely understand why some people dislike what's ahead in the immediate future and even further down the line, but i can't imagine this show without literally the other half of it. i can't remember if the writers knew while writing this that the show had been picked up for season 5 but it was announced at some point before the finale that it was coming back, so if you followed tv news you knew it wasn't over. although they made us wait 6 months to air the next season which felt like torture back then, but that's all i'll say about that because the rest of my thoughts are spoilery. i can't wait to see your thoughts on how they handle moving forward.

Lisa

Looooove this - so excited for you to start season 5

It doesn't matter how many times I see the scene between Karen and Keith, 'look for me in the lilies' never fails to make me a blubbering mess of a human.

Bangtan is life

One Tree Hill doesn’t fall off for me, in some ways it gets better actually

Can't wait to see what you think of the next season 😂
