“Why don’t you close your eyes now,” Lee suggests, “and you can let the spiral go for a moment.”

Your eyes don’t just close, they slam shut, and join the rest of your body in feeling heavy and slow and impossible to move.

(“And as you let the spiral go, you can find that your awareness of your body has returned, and even though you can feel it again, it’s still a separate, distant thing that almost feels like it belongs to someone else.”)

You are completely stopped in place. Every part of your body remains still and solid, while you wait for the next thing to happen. Every part of your body except your mouth, which continues its mindless chanting of “Pleasure. Obedience. Programming. Control.” You have no idea how long you’ve been chanting, but you can now clearly hear your voice confidently proclaiming each word.

You’re glad that you can finally hear the mantra, but you still have no memory at all of when you started chanting or what agreement with Lee led you to this place.

(“Just keep listening to your voice repeating those so important words, pleasure, obedience, programming, control, and know that they are so true and so vital to you, and as you listen, let’s fractionate you a little bit, shall we? Let’s see, every time I snap you can find yourself, until I snap again, awake and aware of where you are, just completely awake until I snap again, and then you can find yourself dropping down deeper than before, 10 times deeper if you like numbers, and we can start that happening right now.”)

There’s a SNAP in your ear and suddenly you’re back staring at the doodled spiral, with your body swaying slightly as you kneel. A moment of stark clarity brings you the memory of asking Lee that morning if she had any tasks for you, and then another SNAP and…

Your whole body seems to plummet, weightless, toward a distant ground, while simultaneously not moving at all. All thoughts of what you’ve just experienced disappear and a wave of peaceful confusion washes over your mind.

The spiral.

The darkness.

SNAP

The spiral.

SNAP

The darkness.

You moan from the depths of your being and let all traces of awareness wash away.

“That’s delightful!” Lee exclaims to your unhearing ears. “I wonder if you’ll be able to keep chanting if I keep doing this?”

What do you think, will you be able to keep chanting?

  1. Yes
  2. No
  3. I was chanting?
  4. <inarticulate moaning>
