I love how raw this is. We don't exactly get to hear real vocals quite often. This just shows again how not live It's Live is.

Well Maki /is/ main vocal material but this song has so many hard high tones. You can see Nicholas and Yuma were trying so hard not to actually shout to the mic :D Some of them really struggled on falsettos. K has a fragile(?) type voice idk what it is in english :D So placing him on choros was the right choice, he'll always get those bg harmony vocals on stages. Jo and Harua has such a clear vocal colors. Chef's kiss. But i dont think they'd do casual live performances as well as Maki, yk? Also they need to practice on how to sing live /with/ this kind of mics. Just to get used to volume ups and downs. I love First Take videos. 99% of them are pure. There is one sneak i caught but i wont say which group to save my sleeve :D

I’m pretty sure Jo and Harua have Yuma and Maki’s voices mixed into their lines in the studio ver of Under the Skin. It seems like the effect is less in the newest songs - from their solo unautotuned voices here, Jo and Harua have definitely improved vocally since &Audition.

I was surprised they did their debut song for this and not the one they're promoting now, or even Fireworks. Under the Skin is very difficult and the line distribution as you mentioned is horribly unfair.. so yes, many were struggling kind of :( Jo and Harua did the best in my opinion and as someone who hasn't seen &Audition yet, I always found it strange when I'd see people say they were vocally very weak. Because now they def aren't!

I agree, Nico is going to have to work really hard to tame that voice kinda like Jimin from BTS. Ironic that both of them are my favorites in terms of their vocal tone within their respective groups lol. I wonder if a vocal trainer knowledgeable in rock singing techniques might help since his voice has that rough quality some rock singers have (just imagine him singing at the level of Taka from One Ok Rock, unfair because Taka is a god when singing live but imagine). Also, spot on when you guys mentioned how we can see their potential in the future; I'm so excited to see their growth! I'm crossing my fingers that they'll perform War Cry on The First Take since guests sometimes perform two songs.

Maki's vocal timbre is so distinct, I was surprised HYBE Japan tried to play it off as anyone else. Glad they don't do that anymore. A big peeve of mine is when someone takes center when it's not their voice.
