Haikyu/Haikyuu means volleyball in Japanese, so the show's title is literally Volleyball. Honestly, it's the perfect title for this show!

Hinata's defining trait is definitely hunger. Dude found something he needs to feel fulfilled but had no way to get it for more than three years. He's worked his ass off to get a taste of something that everyone else takes for granted (Suga mentioned this) and now he's gotten a taste and an opening for more and better. I feel like this kind of hunger is really rare and incredibly powerful. I've always desired that kind of drive, I haven't found it yet but watching this show gives me a bit of that feeling and that bit is so so satisfying and rewarding all the same.

Is there something wrong with PD’s mic? I’m literally being a spy by lip reading PD lol. As for Kageyama, and these are just my opinions, but I don’t think he hates Hinata because he thought he was the only one who could do certain things or reach certain level (sort of in a sense of jealousy?) but in fact he’s mad because with Hinata’s great physical abilities, Hinata could’ve been a much better player with proper training. Yet, Kageyama doesn’t know about Hinata’s situation back in junior high, hence he asked Hinata “what have you been doing in the past three years?” in episode 1 when Hinata’s team loses to Kageyama’s. Kageyama’s passion and love towards volleyball is insane, and the man has terrible communication skills (no sugarcoating at all) which often makes him sounds offensive or disrespecting towards the person he’s talking to, but deep down, he’s just as pure as Hinata is.

I cried almost every episode after episode 3 or 4 watching this anime… and didn’t bother to put on any eye makeup when I go watch the movie in theater. Sadly not many people are recommending this anime.

I think why PD would think that way is due to a bit of mistranslation at 22:05. 「苦しい｡ もう止まってしまいたい｡ 」　そう思った瞬間からの、一歩｡ Kageyama was basically saying that Hinata has a different kind of weapon which is the strong mindset he has rather than great physiques. Even when Hinata is in pain, even if he wants to stop (not “I want him to stop” as the translation showed, the subject here is Hinata even though it’s Kageyama who’s speaking), still he would take that one step forward. This is also the reason why Kageyama finally made a toss to him, because Hinata would never give up and would always take that “one step,” and a lot of the times that one step alone would make a huge difference.

I teared up at the first scene of episode 1 😭 It's just so beautiful it pulls at your heartstrings. If PD or Blaire is reading this, just know it's a 13 episodes anime with 2 movies about a young girl who's trying to find her place in the world after she fought in the war. It's so much more than that but I won't say more ! Hopefully you guys will react to it someday

Man I swear every episode feels so uplifting and hopeful and just makes me happy. It's been a while since I've watched the very early episodes of haikyu and Hinata getting that toss from Kageyama made me teary eyed. The writing is so beautiful

Really glad you picked up on the different philosophies of these characters. Even though it was just a taste of it, this show actually goes hard with the philosophy especially later on, and you will see so many more characters who are walking their own path. It’s one of the reasons why I feel like so many people resonate with this series. This show uses a lot of subtle story telling, and let me tell you, it HITS. And I feel like it is something that does unfortunately get lost through adaptation because the manga is on a whole other level. Furudate, the creator of Haikyuu, did a really incredible job of breathing life into these characters. Like you said, it doesn’t feel like a “show” in the typical sense. It feels like these are real people living their own experiences. This feeling is only amplified when you get to the end. It’s really amazing. It felt like for a brief moment in time, these characters were real. If you know you know 🥹

it's the first time i see a reactor talking about the music in this show (not only ab op and end) and omg the film scores in this show are SO dear to me, the whole description you gave at the end pd is exactly how i feel about haikyuu and that's why is so frikin popular too lol, the amount of symbolism, the cinematography, music, the writing, everything about this show is beautiful, and in my opinion, heeella romantic!! the way this show literally made me join a volleyball team in high school and play seriously for 2 years... like damn😭 every time i watch it i feel like i'm the fucking protagonist of this world and that nothings impossible lmfao, that last bit is a joke but if i'm being real this show is so healing to me, and by this reaction i can already tell that you're gonna love it soooo much

I love that Haikyuu has a lot of world building to it and makes you truly invested in the story, in the plot going forward and in the new cast of characters (one by one).

tsukki and yamaguchi are my favorite characters from the main cast!! they both have really fascinating and strong arcs, although you'll have to wait on them for a little bit. that said? the whole cast including the upcoming extended cast is insanely strong. easily one of the strongest ensemble casts in media.

Haikyuu is one of my most favorite animes of all time because of the reasons you mentioned!!! At its heart, its about the characters and their emotions and what drives them, the entire cast is so strong and loveable and well written to feel...human? Tsukki is hilarious to me and I liked him from the start too - this is unsurprising because my favorite character is [redacted] who I can't wait for you to be introduced to
