yesss pd pulling through fixing the old vid issue luv u

About fans “not doing interesting choices”, it just comes down to majority votes. Fans obviously want their favourite trainees to show their best part, so they choose one-two songs for their faves, and then distribute other trainees in a way that will hurt their fave the least. So, for example, if I like a vocalist, I put my favourite vocalist in, like, U+Me, and put all the other vocalists to Utopia, because it sounds like a vocal song and I don’t care about them that much. But other people, who favour other vocalists or dancers, use the same strategy, so the strong dancers automatically go to Snake, good vocalists to Utopia, all the already cute girls to Shoot, and all the others to U+Me. The only exception is Yujin, because everyone had a soft spot for her and knew she wanted a cute concept.

Daniela Madrid

With the creator’s mission I voted for certain contestants to go into different styles because I wanted them to show some more versatility. Like I wanted bahiyyih and myah to do something like snake and trainees like su ruiqi to do things like shoot but in the need people did choose what fit them most which was the safe choice!

anejelly

I got sad when Ji A didn't survive. I was also rooting for her the most :((

Daniela Madrid

Also you mentioned during the survival announcement how bahiyyih had an issue with her confidence and you are correct! From the beginning of the show to this episode, from the little screen time she had, you can somewhat tell that like she starts to loose confidence because during the show a lot and I mean A LOT of people were being very hateful and racist towards her to the point they made hate pages of her, making fun of her appearance. They kept saying she was not talented and that she was using her brother to stay on the show even though the only time they mentioned Kai was in her audition and sunní mentioned. But yeah there was an abundance of hate during the show towards her!

Joy

Ooo when Bahiyyih beat out Doah for 8th the girls plant twitter sphere was so disgusting (I have never seen any trainee get the amount of hate that Hiyyih has gotten). I personally wish the judges assigned the girls to their creation missions since it was very obvious that most “guardians” were going to play it safe for their choices. The next episode shows you some of the girls personalities but it was also a controversial episode for a certain contestant which was unfortunate in many ways. Also, just an idea PD, the girls perform their creation mission songs on MCountdown and I think those stages are 100000 times better than the gp999 stages. Might be because of the lighting and camera work but I think it’s because the girls already knew the results of who won the creation mission so they could do the stage in a more carefree / fun way. Not sure if you’d be interested in making a video reacting to them since a lot of trainees that didn’t do well for the gp999 stages did well for Mcountdown!

Anonymous

PD did a lot of pre-recording, so we don’t really know at what point they actually are, maybe all the episodes were recorded already, but I agree, Mcountdown stages reaction would be amazing.

A.D

"damn Shen Xiao ting went loud" haha about this time was when she got the nickname Shen Shouting

You touched on the 50% voting system at the very end. IMO this is the most controversial part of this show. They increase the weight of Korean votes based on how many international votes were cast. Ex. If 10 million international votes are cast and 1 million Korean votes are cast, each international vote counts as 1 point and each Korean vote counts as 10 points because the ratio of votes is 10:1. In this scenario it is possible for a contestant to get 1 million international votes and LOSE to a contestant that gets 100,001 Korean votes.

Amanda Bernström

Yes, Bahiyyih def had a confident issue since the girls could see what was said on the internet when they had breaks between filming this show. People hated on her SO MUCH because she was Kais sister, and they said she only had a fanbase because her brother is well known. Her uncle confirmed to us that she saw everything that people said about her..

ThatPatreonThough

Not sure why someone suggested for you to listen to the Creation Mission songs beforehand, cause that 1000% gives spoilers (maybe not girl spoilers cause PD isn’t familiar with voices but it’s song spoilers and imo a big part of the creation mission is that they’re presenting something completely new and it only feels right to see the presented product first before seeing what they’re MEANT to sound like). What I would suggest, which could be fun, is that you watch the MCountdown and Relay Dances for each Creation stage AFTER the mission is completed.

Kevin F.

Yeah, I was confused what that was about as well. Especially since before this episode we certainly did NOT get to hear the full Creation Mission songs, we simply had those 30 seconds or however long it was on the Universe app. The real songs only came out before Episode 9. (And I still don't think they should've been listened to before the stages happened but what's done is done)

Anonymous

Also just a heads up, the creation mission performances are not actually performed next episode. The next episode is somewhat of a variety-esc filler episode. It is not a bad episode in anyway its actually very fun, I just wanted to let you know in case you were prepared to see the performances next episode and didn't want you to get too disappointed. Episode 10 is when they perform :)

Jet3

Both Shen Xiao Ting and Shu Rui Qi kinda remind me of Sakura ;D

M

The lack of screen time is really an issue. I didn't realize how much it had an impact until I started rewatching the show with you. I now appreciate multiple participants that I hadn't even notice on first watch. A lot of them are also participants that did really well in performances on the show, but their interviews were never shown. For example, Moana (who got eliminated this episode) was on Fate team and she really caught my eye the second time around. But the viewers had no idea what she's like, because she was never given any screen time.

rockthekazb0t

See, one of the many reasons we all love watching your survival show reactions is exactly the fact you DO see things beyond face value and surface level and you see through most of the biased editing or usual reality show tricks. I assure you, the majority often does not (or when they do, it's too late to change their voting decisions).

Anonymous

Myah did a bit of a different thing when they did the introduction performance with 4Minutes Crazy

rockthekazb0t

Moana, Hyerim, and Jeongmin were my biggest heartbreaks.. 😭 Tbf, she WAS given some screentime in the beginning(the whole Yes or Yes team difficulties in communication and timidity) but I don't know if they ever really highlighted her dance and vocal abilities on the show. All the fancams and supplemental videos from the show(which you had to go searching for yourself) showed her to be very stable in both. Also the fact she was the only J-girl who performed solo during the introductory stages and they never aired it, sigh..

Marcia

PD already watched the next episodes (before they knew kep1ers debut was postponed)

Wiktor

Jia being eliminated was such a HUGE loss for me :( she was someone I really rooted for just to make it to the finale, cause she is probably the most consistent contestant to 'WOW' me every time. would have loved to see her in U+ME=Love or SNAKE.

Wiktor

Looking back on my notes my top9 ideal line-up at this stage was: Xiaoting, Yurina, Youngeun, Manami, Bora, Wen Zhe, Dayeon, Shana and Fu Yaning. I Was personally really wowed by the 'We Are team'. I would have given : Xiaoting - Centre and Main Dancer, Rapper, Sub-vocalist, Yurina - Visual, Lead Vocalist, Youngeun - Lead Vocalist, Lead Dancer, Lead Rapper, Manami - Lead Rapper, Vocalist, Bora - Leader, Main Vocalist, Wen Zhe - sub vocalist, sub-rapper, VARIETY STAR!, Dayeon - Main Dancer, Vocalist, Rapper, Shana - Lead Vocalist, Fu Yaning - Main Rapper, Vocalist

danelly

A lot of people think there weren't many k trainees in top 9 bc of the voting system. Since you had to pick one person each from kcj, the k votes were spread out since there are soo many talented trainees and they get a lot of screen time. While the c and j votes are mostly focused on the same people bc of the focused screen time. The voting system was the definitely one of the main problems of the show. (which mnet notices) also it really sucks tht no one else from salute made it except cai bing. :(

ThatPatreonThough

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned how the 50:50 voting thing works but it’s essentially to make sure that the Korean vote doesn’t get overpowered by the international vote. It’s like the US Senate, in a way. Since the group will promote mainly in Korea, I guess MNET thought it’d probably be a good idea if the Korean public had more of a say on the lineup. IMO, I don’t think MNET has really learned how to utilize the international fandom appropriately. They want our support and money but not in a way that’ll “overshadow” the Korean support. It’s basically Capitalism/Greed vs Patriotism/Nationalism.

ThatPatreonThough

So like, the ratio of how powerful 1 Korean vote is entirely depends on how many international votes there are. The higher the difference, the larger the ratio. Realistically, international fans want it to be 1:1 and I don’t think we realized that the more we vote, the less our votes actually counted, since votes got converted into points.

Theia

English is not my native language, but since no one wants to explain the 50% 50% voting system I will give it a try. Overall it means that korean voters hold more power even if they vote less and it will become obvious for the final line up in the end. For example if the korean voting results had placed Xiaoting on rank 10 with 100,000 votes and all other countries combined expect Korea (meaning global voters) had 200,000 votes and placed her on rank 1 her final score would be rank 5. The 100,000 votes from koreans count as much as the 200,000 votes from international fans. And in reality the numbers had way bigger gaps. I believe 3/4 of the voters were international fans and only 1/4 koreans, but these 1/4 held all the power. The audience rating on korean tv was really bad and the show only kind of survived cause of the international audience, but at the end our opinion of course didn't matter. I will link you some articles and figures how the final line up would have looked like if all votes counted the same. Maybe look it up after the last episode: https://www.koreaboo.com/news/girls-planet-999-kep1er-korean-international-vote-rankings-different/ https://www.allkpop.com/article/2021/10/fan-analysis-of-girls-planet-999-voting-shows-the-differences-between-korean-and-international-viewers

pip pop

i was so pissed at this episode bc sooo many of my faves were eliminated :(( like jia, doah, chiayi, yeyoung, wang yale, jiwon, liang jiao, jeongmin, hyerim like literally the whole salute team besides cai bing got eliminated and salute was definitely my favorite performance. After this episode i was less excited ofc there a lot more left that i like but so many good trainees had to leave.

pip pop

imo she still did it in a cute way which is fine like the girl is 13 or something

rockthekazb0t

This is exactly it. Voters were locked to voting for a set ratio almost the entire run of the show - so the concentration of J and C trainees in the top rankings makes sense if you think about how few Japanese/Chinese contestants actually got lots of (positive) screentime. The Korean trainees were super spread out.

Benjamin Gonzales

just realized the potential combinations of what the groups could of been

Irving

I feel Like the reason why the top k group members are Not That high on the top9 is because there is a lot of competition on the kgroup, more than the c and j group, so the votes are more divided

Bahiyyih's family has actually revealed she knows about the extremely excessive hate she's received since joining gp999. Before this she used to be very bright whenever we saw her in Lea's vlogs, instagram, tiktok etc. However her confidence has gotten worse with every episode. You could say the hate has taken a toll on her and it's quite obvious. I don't think I've ever seen a trainee receive as much hate as she has. Not even the problematic/racist trainees got half as much hate as her.

Benjamin Gonzales

Just realized that Dayeon had the stronger dancers in her group, that could of been a reason why they were able to pick it up faster than Caibing's group

ellie ❣️

it's sad because she knows english and mandrin as well, so she's likely reading 10x more hate comments :-/

excellen

My comment disappeared out of nowhere? I explained about the voting period and benefits but won't repost since it's too long. Anyways, I was heartbroken for Yeyoung and Hyerim this elimination. When Yeyoung was finally getting some screentime and getting some attention in Korea she was eliminated. She is a BBC trainee, Loona's company, so I don't know when she is gonna debut. And Hyerim was the only Planet Pass receiver that got almost no screentime or focus for this mission and since she was stuck in a 9-person group and the focus of that group was all about Cai Bing's leadership drama she didn't get any attention from anything. At this point I had my top 9 but there were 4 people that I really wanted to make it to the final lineup: Mashiro, Chaehyun, Yeseo and Youngeun.

Emily L.

Hyello still watching but YES thank you for realizing Utopia was giving GFriend!! My first thought when I heard this song was that it reminded me of a mix between Oh My Girl and GFRIEND, specifically Secret Garden and Love Whisper! I mean when they brought in that electric guitar? 🤩

sakeofblake

in terms of ranking this episode, i didn't particularly care at the time since i was rooting for so many girls. i just cared about who made it rather than their ranks. also, i think it was around this time that hate/negative comments on bahiyyih were at their highest and she was slowly gaining more attention from the ice cream performance. apparently she was aware of the pressure/words people said online. i hated seeing her like this and wanted her ranking to shoot up just to spite the comments constantly talking down on her talents/visuals.

Anonymous

Just a heads up so PD can avoid any spoilers (cause the new member of billlie ofc didn’t survive). Their new member changed her stage name and I’d say wait on watching their comeback till after finishing the series since the new member does survive pretty far!

Izak

for the 50 /50 thing, idk if this is correct or not but this is how i understood it , my example would be say for every 1 vote from korea, the girls get 0.5 points and 1 vote from any other country also gives 0.5 points. so each vote counts for 0.5 points. so then say a girl gets 10 votes in korea but 0 outside she would only get 5 points but if a girl gets 10 votes in korea and 2 votes in England she would get 6 points because the 2 english votes added with the k votes gave her 2 whole points then the rest of the k votes added together give her the other 4, it's basically just for equal consideration and doesn't give change much, even if a girl gets 50 k votes and 0 overseas she'd get the same points as someone who got 45 k votes and 5 overseas.

NM

i think usually leaders are also dancers - apart from the few groups who have specific dance leaders like RM is the leader but JHope is the dance leader or like Seventeen but thats rare?

formoftherapy

Really? I’m thinking off the top of my head and I can’t think of groups where the dancer is the leader. So BTS, SKZ, ATEEZ, SVT, THE BOYZ are the first groups I think of and no dancer leaders. Any examples???

kyujinz

i was so so happy about xinyu getting planet pass, i never thought she would get to this point when i was watching, let alone my fav since episode 1 wen zhe. also not sure if you saw but at the end it said xu ziyin dropped out because of health issues :(

ggoom

In the show, they roughly get 10 days to prepare the performance. Because of this it makes the most sense to assign the leader position to the person that can guide the team to putting the best performance together in a short time frame. As a result, the leader position in these shows isn't the same as a traditional idol group leader. However, the traditional leadership qualities are still important as we saw with Bora/Manami and Dayeon/Ruan.

excellen

About the leader thing, if the group has a more talented member in dance who knows how to lead the practices they are the ones who usually help with the choreo but a lot of the times the leader is the one leading the practices and adjusting the choreo and details even if they are not main dancers. Some examples from the top of my head are Rocket Punch Yeonhee, she is not the main dancer but recently when they were preparing for a dance cover she was the one adjusting the choreo's formations for 6 members and leading the practice, and IVE Yujin, she is also the leader and for me she is a vocalist but she is the one helping the other members on dance practices. And about Dayeon, she trained 1 year with a professional dance crew member and dance crews in Korea usually also create some choreos for idols so maybe that's why she can make choreo and adjust formations more easily.

Sander

Ahh I remember being So heartbroken for Ji A and Yeyoung, also the fact that Yeyoung is a BBC trainee and will most likely return to their dungeon now is extremely sad to me, she was my favorite and I'm just finding myself wanting to see more of her.

Diana

In a previous episode, someone commented something very interesting, which is that they had a variety of options for their Korean picks when it came to voting, so every time they voted they tried to choose someone different to kind of support them all. But when it came to Japanese or Chinese girls (more so the Japanese), they couldn't really remember that many, so they kept voting for the same 3 or 4 people. When they had to choose people from each group, it means Japanese and Chinese girls rank higher because more votes keep going to the same people. When it switched to just one person, regardless of group then...that's when it gets interesting. And it comes down to the screentime, which is what I hate about Msnake and their hundred-people shows. They very clearly know that it's impossible to give everyone a fair chance even doing two-hour episodes, yet keep doing it because of us I guess(? I wouldn't be surprised if a good part of the voters went the same route as that person.

希文 王

from what I've seen so far, Cai Bing is more main dancer or lead dancer material and not dance leader or leader material, but she wants it (which is admirable! but I do think you have to know your own limits, and she does seem to be learning in her own way

formoftherapy

Honestly, the more I see groups with dual leaders, the more I’m starting to think it’s a radical but fresh and helpful idea.

formoftherapy

Oh no!!! I only knew she dropped out from them mentioning in the next episode in passing but I didn’t know it was a health issue

Anonymous

You know who Yeseo reminded me of with the double bun hair? Yabuki Nako. I cannot unsee Nako anymore.

Deniz Ak

yeyoung looks so much like JiU from Dreamcatcher... anyone else or just me?

Dia

When you said Snake was a Bvndit song was like OMG YES!!! No wonder I love it so much. It definitely feels like a Bvndit track. Side note: Bvndit comeback when???

Anonymous

hi trying to watch it now but is states that the video does not exist

Anonymous

Me, too. It says the video doesn't exist. I was so looking forward to watching the episode alongside you
