Girls Planet 999 Ep. 6.mp4

Initial thoughts while watching again.. I'll edit as I go along. While I understand the reasoning, I hated SO much that Hyerim and the other Planet Pass girls had to pick last. 😩 Also, I had the exact same reaction to Mafia in the Morning being a "Vocal" battle song lmao Agree about the leader debate - I said similarly in a previous episode discussion but the leader needs to focus on the overall harmony of the group and be able to highlight all the individuals skills to make an exceptional performance. It's not about *them*, it's about the GROUP.

Hey PD! Since the final lineup is debuting around early December I believe, will you be reacting to their debut song immediately or would you wait until after you finish the final ep so the lineup doesn't get spoiled for you?

Zoey Sama

cant wait fort he next episode

Lastelios

I agree with your thoughts about the role of leader , also i find that the leader shouldn't be the oldest member . is just stupid and nonsense

Ash

yeseo said you want emotion say LESS!

After this EP I was convinced that Hikaru knew what she was doing on this shows nothing was left to chance for that girl she seem to put herself in the position of what the mission was going to be and applied herself to it with the few exceptions from the judges she takes it and use it to her will as the show goes on more it'll definitely give you the idea that Hikaru knew what she was doing in the sense of word "She understood the Assignment" lol Concerning The Cai Bing and HyeRim situation I did think HyeRim should of been Leader her thought Process was more sufficient than Cai Bing and even when she was stating her points one of them were "I use to be back up dancer for idols " and such and one girl even stated that so did I I think she came off more as presenting herself to lead rather than presenting how to lead the group

From a biased view : We Are was my fave team. their dynamic is incredible and I fell in LOVE with these 3 trainees at the same time. Bora, Wen Zhe and Manami became a 'voting package' for me, from this episode 😂 I agree with you're Opinion on Wen Zhe, I think if she wasn't stiff and let loose, like she does normally in real life, then she would have a standout stage presence. Manami is incredible! I didnt know who she was until NOW! to find out she was in the same team as Bora in the last round shocked me. Bora did amazing. she really has it all for me and her warm personality, with Wen Zhe extroverted social fun personality and Manami's little shy and introverted personality just WORKED. they're like a 'family' Bora and Wen Zhe are the parent and Manami is the child. But as a performance itself, it was very very impressive and Manami was the hard carry for it imo. But overall they all worked VERY well together. it was an insane UNDERDOG performance for me, I love a good surprise and underdog story.

Upshot

Manami on the beat, ya!

I actually massively felt disappointed with Hikaru, from this episode. Maybe because I hold certain trainees like Hikaru (P1's and already debuted idols) to a 'higher' standard. I was really wanting to hear more of her 'rapping' skills, since she herself bigged it up and so did the show, so I felt disappointed she didn't 'GO FOR IT' but rather played it safe, with a dance song. In the performance itself, when watching and rewatching, I find myself being a bit bored and unimpressed by her and ZiGe to the point that it was my least fave performance is episode. Her facials did improve a bit but they still didn't fit the song. Since she played it 'safe' I would expect her to do goo but she fell short for me. Which made me wonder what she could've done if she did rap? Her Boombayah Skills and Facials were ON POINT. they WOWED me. but her Eve and No Excuses, she was 'TOO MUCH' and then 'TOO little' for me. I think she needs to find a good balance like she did with boombayah

Actually Bahiyyih helped leading and helping the ice cream team so im actually mad at Mnet for not showing us that and letting us think she did like nothing for the team. We only knew about it after the show ended..

Kristine

I love this show and genuinely root for the girls, but there will always be a point where you cannot believe Mnet's editing so much hate.

Kristine

Ice cream performance definitely stands out in this episode, the harmony and the choreography matched them but I can't say it's my favorite yet. I don't want to leave spoilers, so I'm just going to say the further episodes made me question my sexuality :)))

Amanda Araujo

my favorite performance was definitely Ice Cream followed up by We Are, the rest was good but none caught my attention like the other two did like We Are team was impressive because of how much they improved and how well they showed that new side of them and Ice Cream to me was just a flawless performance like you said that song could be disadvantageous but Dayeon did such an incredible job making a choreography that is hard, cute and powerful and showed everyone's strength really well like that was the first time i reaaally noticed Bahiyyih and not only Dayeon did an amazing choreo for the whole team she also was awesome as center and in her solo parts

laura

I enjoy rewatching this show with you so much, really love hearing your thoughts. Here's some of mine: The We Are trio is so iconic, I love their underdog story. I'm so glad Manami ended up doing We Are, I wasn't aware of her before but that performance quickly made her join my top 9. She has so much potential in both rap and vocal. And Bora is an absolute angel. Ice Cream is definitely a fan favorite, it's the 3rd most watched GP999 vid on YouTube actually (#1 being the OOO performance by all 99 girls & #2 being the Crazy performance by the K-Maknaes). Dayeon was already one of my favorites before but this episode definitely solidified her place in my top 9. Someone like her just absolutely has to debut, she can contribute to any group she's in. She truly has it all. Missing You performance was enjoyable but not outstanding. I've loved both Hyewon and Jeongmin since their first stages so I was glad to see them get to shine more during this performance. Reina is also so underrated it's criminal, she's insanely talented. No Excuses is the only performance that left me feeling slightly disappointed. It wasn't bad by any means it just felt kind of boring to me? And about the whole leader debate: I definitely agree with you, being a leader doesn't necassarily mean you have to be the one making the choreo, it's about keeping the team's balance & harmony & sort of being the spokesperson. I would've loved to see Hyerim be the leader for Salute team. You'll see more behind the scenes for Salute next week though, so there'll be more to talk about then. Anyways, excited for next week's performances! :)

Going by each performance: 1) We are Team: Since we had 2 vocalists and 1 dancer doing rap I think they did amazing specially Manami. They got to stand out even if they were forced out of the position they were more comfortable with. Also props to Bora for being a great leader because yeah she helped Manami to write her rap since she didn't know Korean but she could have given less parts to Manami since she was struggling and taken the easy way out. But instead she pushed Manami to do good, taught her how to have better rhythm and actually gave her a lot of parts I think even more parts than Wenzhe got. 2) Ice Cream Team: It was the best performance of the episode for me since I hate the song and even so I really enjoyed the performance and it even made me tolerate the song. And until someone official says otherwise Dayeon did made all of that choreography. What we know from the show is that they were assigned the songs and the next day they had the interim checks with the masters when they got feedback on what to change/improve and then around a week till the performances (there are stage rehearsals in the middle of this but I don't know when they happened). Also they didn't have vocal/dance teachers helping them in between interim checks so the only input and help they got was during the interim checks with the masters that if some group was struggling they would help them with ideas or instructions like Onestar did with the girls from Missing You about the vocals. 3) No Excuses Team - The performance was ok but it really didn't wow me. Hikaru did good and listened well the criticisms for her facial expressions, Zhige was basically erased from the performance and Suyeon did ok she had nice moves but I feel that she lacked in the facial expressions since for me it was 90% the same she always did since her first performance. 4) Missing You Team - I feel that they focused so much on Yurina's struggles in the preparation and then in the performance itself all that build up didn't pay off since she did again basically a minor part well and not really something big to show that she was improving. Props to Xinyu for overcoming the disaster from the interim check and proving that she could rap. Also Hyewon really was a sweetheart trying to cheer up the members that got negative feedback from the interim. And yeah next mission there will be original songs made for the show and we got to assign who would be in each one by votes. You will only get to see who got in to what song in episode 8. And I will talk more about the benefits from this mission in the next elimination episode but the rule of thumb after thinking about what each benefit actually brings (double votes in the last 24h vs fixed points from a mission in your final score) is that double votes even if only for the last 24h have more of a probability to help a contestant than the fixed points.

billie27

PD favorite word is : interesting 😂

Benjamin Gonzales

Question about the rap songs, I have only seen the Produce shows, so I dont know if this is a Korean thing or just specific to the series. A rap song would be chosen and the trainees go about writing their own words to the rap. So I am confused, do they end up writing a whole new song? Do they have to stay at least within the original context of the song?

Daniela Madrid

With your leader perspective I completely agree. Being leader doesn’t mean to just know how to do a certain thing from experience and teach but to keep the group cohesive and harmonious. Because not everyone that is super talented in something makes them a good teacher or leader. The ice cream performance is by far one of my favorite performances from this show because it was so amazing. I definitely agree da yeon helped myah and bahiyyih to grow more compared to the previous episodes especially bahiyyih because I feel her facial expressions and stage presence really grew in this performance which showcased the amazing potential she has.

Joy

ahhh the legendary ice cream stage!!! Yes, Dayeon choreographed the entire dance ( We didn’t find out till after the show from a J participant on the ice cream team that Huening Bahiyyih was the co-leader for the group but mnet obviously didn’t show that) . This episode was a blessing and a curse for one participant which you’ll see why in a few episodes. One of the c trainees did a live where she said what happened behind the scenes and said the mentors were really never there so almost everything had to be done by the trainees. Plus when they has their mid point evaluations it was usually one or 2 days after getting the song so that’s why so many people just look unprepared. She also said the translators were almost never there so it made communication extra hard.

Annika

Hyewon looks so much like a female version of chanhee from the boyz and I just cant unsee 🤣 also I feel like I'm one of the very few people who already noticed manami in her ohmygirl performance and how amazing her vocals were so I was reallyyy glad finally more people started appreciating her after this ep bc her rapping is just so good. I agree with wenzhe, I love her and she is improving so fast, if she could let lose more on stage she'd be even better. My favorite performance this ep (or overall this round) was definitely ice cream, considering I usually hate the song but their performance actually made me enjoy it alot, dayeon did such a great Job. I hate how they didnt show that bahiyyih helped some of the members with the ice cream performance bc she barely gets any screentime anyway, like she also tried to help miyu with her high notes during fiesta and mnet showed nothing. I understand they can't show everything and can't highlight every girl the same but mnet always plays favoritism, also with evil editing so I'm just a bit dissappointed with that.

Maf

Yes, finally someone addressing this. Now that I am rewatching to it I can see that Mnet really didn't give her any credit. I get super sad because of that. Thank god they can't do anything about her popularity

Irving

The Ice scream performance iconic, I personally really Like dayeon and bahiyyih on That performance the most but everyone shine on it

Sascha

My favourites from this episode were We Are & Ice Cream as well, also think Dayeon was the most impressive showing her leadership and skill in this episode. I was so happy once I saw the We Are performance as someone who really became a fan of Bora bc at first when they revealed the teams I was mad and worried since she didnt get the chance to show her vocals, but her whole team was so fun and refreshing to watch, that's why We Are is my second favourite from this episode.

Oligom

Well, I am HEAVILY biased towards bora, so I liked 'We Are' the best, and I knew wen zhe from 'youth with you 2' (chinese produce) and I fell in love with Manami after this performance, but objectively Icecream was So freaking good and Dayeon is the MVP, no arguments allowed 😂😂

Oligom

Also, this isn't a spoiler, just a fact that you can tell early on: the best leaders in this show are Bora, Dayeon and Mashiro. They just seem to have it in them 💯

sakeofblake

many praise the ice cream performance, and if i recall correctly i think it is one of the most viewed performances on youtube from the show, because it really is THAT GOOD. someone broke it down better in a comment i read earlier, but this round is essentially the self producing challenge of the show. the dance teams create their own choreography, either one member or many members in the group making a contribution, vocal groups create the concept/arrangement of the song they sing, and rap groups write their own lyrics to the original track. in all produce seasons, they had this type of round and it really brings out the best of the trainees in my opinion

sakeofblake

in a prior episode, i forget which, PD mentioned someone told them the debut group name so they've been avoiding any spoilers/articles. so a reaction is likely to come out after they finish the show

sakeofblake

so usually it stays on theme with the original song since the instrumental itself is not changed. each position has different self producing aspects - dance teams make choreography, vocals make an arrangement, and rappers write lyrics. this is usually the case based off the survivals i've seen but unsure if any other series has a different way of doing it

flowerbit

My favorites of this four are We Are and Ice Cream. Those two were the most polished and felt the most well practiced and professional

Keiera Jones

am i the only one that thinks suyeon looks a lot like xiumin from exo?!? Her face looks the exact same to me.

onyx.

This is my first time watching as well but the editing for me is quite peculiar, like the previous comments mentioned, bahiyyh helped dayeon with the dance practices, they only focused on yurina and not anyone else for that group, and IMO i think they focused too much on a struggle on 1 person instead of the dynamics of the whole group but i think mnet has always done that. but I've also seen in previous comments about hikaru, I'm biased as I think she has done an amazing job, sure she could've shown her rapping skills but I think she chose No Excuses because of the dance concept.

Harley

Ice Cream is really my favorite performance in the whole show. I got scared when I first heard they were doing a dance performance to this song because depending on who choreographs it they could make it 1) too sexy or just kinda vulgar which given that a lot of the girls on that team are young it would be very concerning or 2) too cute and is just a Pretty You Pt 2. Dayeon did an amazing job making the moves powerful and cute and charismatic. For Missing You team I felt like they were good vocally but they missed the "essence" of the song. Like the way they performed it felt very church choir-ey or like they were singing a song about the power of friendship. I feel like the only one that had some kind of "missing you" spark was Hyewon? The emotion was kinda dead for me. We Are team became my trio that I voted for so much. I love Wen Zhe she has such a great personality that is needed in a group as the moodmaker and also I think she'd be great for Variety Shows. Bora is an amazing vocalist and leader of any group she's put into. Manami has the great potential to be an amazing rapper and vocalist (which we really need more good female rappers in the new generation of kpop). No Excuses team for me played it safe which is kinda the opposite of what you expect from people picking to do the 3 person team because individually each person would get more points than if they did the 9 or 6 person groups. I think Hikaru showed us a more playful side which was nice. The next mission songs I was excited for but the voting system I personally don't like because the lineup is very predictable if you let people vote. Like everyone is gonna put the "girl crush" girl in the sexy song when I wanted it to be a chance for the girls to show a different side to them but oh well I guess.

vKaedehara

Ice Cream really stole the show for me, the choreo was charismatic, cute and powerful which had me captivated from start to finish.

Anonymous

Dayeon choreographed the whole thing which boosted my respect for her

JustCakie

Ice cream was so iconic. Honestly likely my favourite performance from the entire show for me. Dayeon did an incredible job of bringing out the best in everyone and I honestly think I would have liked the original song more if this performance had accompanied it 😅

aaronmurao27

Creation Song sounds like Shoot = Weeekly or Fromis_9 U + ME= LOVE = IZ*ONE Utopia = Oh My Girl or Gfriend Snake = (G)I-DLE

Anonymous

honestly i’m still so mad that one of the ice cream members said hiyyih practically co lead the team w dayeon and helped members keep on track too but we didn’t see ANY of it and only found out through them 😭😭😭😭 mnet rlly couldnt evil edit her and instead edited her OUT

pip pop

i still don’t get why mafia in the morning is under vocal i feel like they rap more than sing but okay

Aiz

Ice cream was definitely my most favourite performance/team dynamic for this whole show. I adore the way dayeon led their team, and the choreo really highlighted everyones strong points/brought out charms we'd never seen, like you said! Even weeks after, I can remember each member's parts in my minds eye even if I don't know their names because every single one of them left an impression! My second favourite has to be We Are because I really loved the harmonization and the rapping was actually pretty phenomenal, especially manami! She was my j group pick after this! So cool, so cute, all of them. And truly, the leadership skills of Bora (and Dayeon/Mashiro) are really noticeable in this episode and I love that they got to shine. As for No Excuses and Missing You...I think they did well but as this episode started and I began to rewatch it with you, it took me a few minutes to remember who else performed other than We Are and Ice Cream ;-; Can't wait to watch the next one! It also has one of my favourites of this show, and then I can finally join you in the Debate about Leadership

希文 王

Just on the leader discussion: there's a saying in my language that goes something like "a leader is someone who doesn't excel in anything", and what it implies is that the leader isn't necessarily the best in this or that, but they know how to lead and keep the team together and in harmony, and they know who's best at what and can do a certain job well, so I definitely agree with PD, just going for who's most experienced with dance or whatever expertise is a little risky (because it doesn't guarantee that person is also fit to be a leader)

Anonymous

Since you already know the rules of CREATION Mission, I would like to suggest watching the uncut versions of those performances once you finished the episode! Personally, I like watching the songs without the cuts as I want to enjoy the performances. -- Honestly loved the We Are team (totally biased because Wen Zhe). That aside, as you said, I came to like Bora more through this show because you can see she has the leadership qualities. She goes for the extra mile to help someone, too, going as far as learning reassuring and encouraging words in JP/CN. The result is a wonderful performance. Love the energy in We Are team. Ice Cream team... oooh, where to start. When Dayeon volunteered to be a leader, she already had the vision of the choreography and made this temporary team gel so well. The genius of Kim Dayeon really shone through this mission. The BTOB team is great. Just unfortunate that the editing made me forget the performance 😅 Same with Hikaru's team, their energy isn't quite the same as the others. That is not to say I didn't enjoy their performance!

Anonymous

Ah, Ice Cream team! Definitely one of the best performances of the show! Despite it’s weaknesses (the full cam shows it all), it has the unmatched ability to uplift my mood instantly.

Anonymous

Ice Cream was my favorite performance from those 4. I also really discovered Manami through her part in We Are.

Anonymous

Actually, I got a video idea for PD: Why don't you do a blind listen to the CREATION Mission songs from Apple Music/Spotify? Completely blind first listen. Then when the episodes for the CREATION Mission come up, re-listen/re-watch the songs with videos. I'd like to hear your thoughts! Of course, it's only a suggestion. You can ignore this haha.

Cristine

Not sure if PD will see this, but just saw your reaction to Billie (amazing btw). But my anxiety was through the roof when you were looking them up. And thats because they announced that one the girls from gp999 will be joining the group (pls correct me if I'm wrong if I've been misinformed lol). She wasn't in the mv so don't worry, but be careful with future searches. 😬

Anonymous

Omg, we got a teaser. Kep1er will debut in December. I guess the debut song reaction will have to wait 😭

Y

I looked at the screen really fast at 1:42:25 and was like... Manse era Jeonghan???
