Yeah, it's pretty similar though I feel like this season is less enjoyable and more fraught with tension. The whole group cell thing has both pros and some definite cons. A girl could be dragged down by unpopular cell mates, and conversely - a super popular member could hard carry your entire cell up. At the same time, some really great partnerships and genuine friendships were born out of the cell system. Because of the rigging scandal, GP999's voting results are going through a third party commission to make sure it's fair and above the board. So consequently, I feel like the way MNet edits and shows certain events and individuals are way more exaggerated now, to try to ensure the trainees they prefer would move on (the old school legal way of "rigging" - good and bad screentime). Like I KNOW every show manipulates the narrative to some degree but at least try to be more subtle about it, ya know? It's a little more jarring to watch than previous seasons of Produce tbh. And in later episodes (no spoilers!), I feel really bad for some of the girls who got evil edited.

I always found it so weird how the subs show her Fanatics stage name Lee Rayeon, but all the hangul shows her real name(according to kpop profiles), Lee Nayeon. I was so confused and thought the show kept misspelling her name.

there are good performances and I like the girls but of all the shows out there I think this is very weak. lack of creativity on the part of mnet. the produce series are all the same. there are much nicer shows conceptually like loud i land and street woman figher, i hope mnet will improve in the next shows

If I'm being honest apart from the cell thing this is like Produce 101 S5, they just change the name from Produce999 to Girls Planet lol. But I still love it and the episodes just gets better and better

While watching this, I'm still thinking how watching Youth With You (s2) was so much more fun. I know PD said they'll want to watch the other produce shows but I hope one day they can give a chinese one a shot too.

PD I would recommend you watch the full performances on YouTube first and then watch the one on the show like you did with Kingdom since they cut a lot to reactions during the performances

Although I agree it makes the performances more enjoyable I'm scared they will end up getting major spoilers via youtube recommendation if they do that, especially since the finale is like next week or something. They could do that with Kingdom bc no one was getting eliminated.

Kim Bora was the girl whose voice you loved in cherry bullet's title tracks idk if you remember. It's sad that mnet didn't show her parts in the bounce back performance because she was soo good, objectively one of the best singers of her generation.

Tbh, the cell system was something I thought was a good idea. It kinda forced viewers to pay attention to trainees that weren’t their 1 Pick to ensure their 1 Pick makes it through. Kinda makes it so you have to learn about the other girls, which is nice.

I also didn't try to learn many names right from the start and didn't have a personal top 9 till after the first elimination as to not get too attached to many people that could get eliminated really fast (that's also why for me the second elimination hit like a truck since I got to know more people's names). The only one that I knew by name from the first episode was Mashiro and the popular ones that got into the top 9 this episode. Because of the cell system I really grew to like Yeseo and Xing Qiao too later on.

When you said that Kim Doah could have been an actress... actually she was already in a web drama with OH MY GIRL Arin in "The World of My 17" 😅 If there's a team you'd want to look out for the CONNECT Mission, it would be Pretty U team. I remember it being a great stage, too. Very exciting to see if you will like their stage. As for your picks, they're very solid picks! I won't spoil the people in the current TOP9, but you'll be quite satisfied seeing it, I think. Next week would be the finale episode for Girls Planet 999, so I guess you'll eventually know who will debut then. Hope your current picks make it! -- If you're planning to watch PRODUCE 48 after LOUD and Girls Planet 999, I advise to have extremely low expectations for the first evaluations. And I mean very, very low expectations. Once you get there, I'll say why!

I know a lot of people hate this show and hate the concept or whatever but I don't find it that bad. Like, I get that there seems to be a lot of tension in GP999 compared to produce but idk if it's just me but I love the drama lmao. The idol industry is cut-throat and while the cells can be seen as unnecessary and dividing, I find it a good example of kpop groups. Nobody gets to decide who their members are in real kpop groups and so I like how they replicated that feeling by strictly have only one person from K, C or J in each cell and not really allowing them to decline others' requests.

Coming from the future here (from episode 8). The performances are really worth it. And the girls themselves of course <3 I am enjoying myself so far with all of them. But I find the format...excruciating .-. If you thought the I-Land finale with its super long announcement was long, it happens every couple eps here. I mean, I get it because it's so many of them, but something about it is just so tiring. At times not even Yeo Jin Goo with his charming voice and smile can cheer me up during it xD
