Yoongi’s ending lyrics to Moonlight are actually a reference to the song Nevermind from BTS Most Beautiful Moment in Life album series! I love that he always manages to reference his own work in other songs like “big house, big car, and big rings” is also a reference to lyrics in No More Dream, Home, AND Shadow lol D-2 is definitely my favorite out of the 2. This came out right when the pandemic was happening and even Yoongi himself said it’s unfortunate to say but if it wasn’t for the pandemic and their extended free time he wouldn’t have been able to release the mixtape as it was or when he did it. People is definitely my favorite song the lyrics are very comforting and Yoongi even said himself it’s his favorite song from the album. For Dead My Friend Jungkook actually sang the guide for it! Yoongi did a Vlive where he talked about the whole album and played the guide for armys to hear. And I know you asked this in the livestream but usually if you hear a female voice in his songs it’s one of Big Hit’s producers Adora she’s also the female voice in Seesaw’

sakeofblake

As far as referencing anyone specific in his music, he once said in a livestream discussing the mixtape that he doesn’t aim towards anyone specific. He sets up traps in his songs, per his words. So I guess if the shoe fits lmao

Y

Moonlight People and Dear my Friend are the tracks I keep coming back to on this album. I agree it isn't as comforting as Mono but I think that's just the difference between RM and Suga in general. they both know all the right words but they have very different ways of saying them. overall this entire album is on my driving playlist because all the instrumentals are so good with the exception of Burn it. Suga's feature on MAX's album worked but somehow the mix on this one fell flat for me.

Daniela P

OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH

crash9100

i can never forget yoongi saying if he didn't add that censor in what do you think that it would have caused a lot of issues WHO WAS HE CALLING OUT

Viviena

I listen to Strange just for musicality! I can't listen to Honsool tho, that one is not palatable for me. xD

SugandSunshine

I always skip burn it, the tracks I always come back to are ‘strange’ ‘people’ and ‘set me free’

Anonymous

I definitely think that with his first mixtape there was frustration, anger as well as depression and personal battles without a sense of acceptance and embracement, while D-2 tackles similar themes but with that sense of acceptance. I've loved seeing him speak about his emotions as well as injustices and social issues. Yoongi is very reflective and hearing his thoughts and opinions is so fascinating to me. D-2 is an absolute masterpiece in my opinion and I love the way you appreciate his lyricism, he's an absolute lyrical genius (I feel like a lot of it is missed by non-koreans due to mistranslation or simply there not being a proper translation for the exact words). Thank you so much for your reaction PD and I wish Blaire a speedy recovery<3

Anonymous

yay! i paused iron man 2 to come and watch haha thank you pd!!

Liz

I love this mixtape, and about strange, I got addicted to it along with 28 for a long time

Réka O.

I agree with you, I admire the first mixtape but I can't listen to it casually because it's too depressing, while this one I often go back to. For me personally, Honsool is the only song I can't listen for pleasure, it has a vibe that's almost unbearably dark. The rest are on my playlists for various moods. My favorites are Moonlight, Set me free, Burn it and Dear my friend. I was a bit sad you didn't enjoy Burn it as much, especially Max's part because it's my absolute favorite on this mixtape and I love love love the way Max sings it (but I'm a fan of him too and love his voice), but hey we all have different tastes :) Thank you for listening to the mixtape, I'm glad you liked it so much! It was almost midnight for me when you posted this, it was really nice to listen to before going to sleep.

Viviena

I relate to "Dear my friend" a lot. I've lost a dear friend to depression, they are alive so I still have hope but the friendship is gone. So this song is very much emotional for me but I still love it. The whole mixtape is fantastic to me. Also very summer vibe (not in a fun way, I can't explain how) so I'm glad that you listened to it now!

M&M93

Ah, I am so happy someone else the same favorite song from this. I put Dear My Friend on basically every playlist I make. I defintely teared up the first time listening to it. I don't speak Korean, but the emotion in his voice and the arrangement really get to me. After looking up the lyrics, I loved it even more. Other favorites for me are People, What Do You Think?, Moonlight, and Honsool. I think I am one of the few who loves listening to Honsool. It is not supposed to be pleasant to listen too and I kind of love that. You mentioned the big band/orchestral feel of Dear my friend, which is interesting because Suga just revealed in an interview that he really likes Hans Zimmer's music/arrangements, and going back, I can see hints of that admiration in his own stuff.

Anonymous

Yeah I feel very similarly about his first mixtape, I cannot go back to it unless I’m feeling angry where as this mixtape is just a much easier and pleasant listening experience while still maintaining that raw/emotional element. I feel like lots of people don’t love burn it but it’s actually one of my favorites alongside people, dear my friend and the interlude idk I just love the melody of the singing part in contrast to the more rough rap. And I do actually really love listening to strange sonically I love the chorus part but I guess that’s the perk of not understanding Korean, you can just ignore the lyrics and vibe sometimes lol

serenity

I've heard Dear My Friend a million times but it's been about 6 to 9 months since I last heard it, so when I listened to it with you I actually cried bc I was reminded of the lyrics and it was reminding me of myself and the "what could've been"s in my life.

Daniela P

dear my friend gave me goosebumps while listening to it..almost made me cry too...i had forgotten how powerful that song is especially after you hear it after listening to the whole mixtape...i love this mixtape but to be honest both mixtapes are difficult for me to go back to...the first one because of the reasons you stated and D-2 because it's too relatable...D-2 makes me confront things within my life that i am not yet ready to confront so yeah

Isabella N.

in his first mixtape, i feel like yoongi was still trying to work through and/or recover from his struggles and emotions. it’s focused so much on his anger, his struggles with depression/anxiety/money/work/etc, and he’s clearly venting through his songs on that one. it’s not bad, it’s just not a mixtape most people will find themselves going back to because it’s so heavy and as you said, it’s not super palatable. d-2, on the other hand, shows his growth since then. he’s still got his struggles, but he’s also clearly in a better place. even in his more aggressive songs, they feel less like he’s lashing out, and more confident with an attitude of “yeah i said what i said” or “hey, look where i am now. all these people wanted to push me and bangtan down, they’re still trying to, but we’re not gonna crumble so fuck you. feel free to keep trying tho lol”

Daniela P

also fun fact suga had jk do the guide for dear my friend...he shared the guide on his vlive and you can find the clip on youtube in case you ever want to check it out on your own time:)

This mixtape is definitely my favorite one from agust D but I on the scale of bts' mixtapes mono is still my comfort album

Joy

At the end PD talked about Mono and Agust D, it made me wonder if PD has ever heard Hope World.

Sham Sham

Can we get a Bobby lucky man album reaction tho 👀

Yeah ,Yoongi really did his thing with this one. I liked every song. My favorite thing with the Rapline and their mix tapes is the stark difference between their first one and the second one. Doing their first mix tapes it’s like they were angry at the world. Which is relatable because most young people are and they were just expressing it as freely as they could. But with their second mixtapes they’re way more introspective. They’re still angry in some senses but it’s like they turned their anger into like an understanding and a comfort. It’s like they’ve been able to process the emotions with their first mixtapes and now this is like the more mature version of their thoughts. It’s like yes I am angry and I feel this way but I’ve had time to grow and mature in it . So now let me give you the more updated adult version of me. It is honestly really amazing to see the growth of BTS as individuals. The growth from RM to Mono and Agust D to D-2. Sidenote which is why I’m also really looking forward to listen to J- hope’s 2nd mixtape. I’m sure he’s not the same person he’s changed and he would like to express that differently than he did in Hope world which I loved as well. We also got a taste of ghat growth in Blue Side full version. Now it back to Yoongi yeah D2 is just a really great project. I love the songs I love the instrumentals and I love the lyrics. Dear My Friend was like an instant favorite the first time I heard it. And the same with Moonlight I was like oh if this is how we’re opening the album that I’m here for it. It’s got the old-school hip-hop vibe with the sample of somebody talking in the beginning (saying we keep it street like the concrete).I’m like OK yeah I’m down for it. On another note about American hip-hop and hip-hop artists today I think there are a lot of rappers out here who still tell in their stories. It just depends on who you listen to. I personally think Kendrick Lamar is like a great example of a rapper who stays very true to himself and who tells his story and expresses himself through his rap his music. His How to Pimp a Butterfly album was pure art and poetry. Also the thing about hip-hop is that it’s actually such a wide and diverse genre that you can find a little bit of everything. If you want your conscious and introspective rap there are rappers out there who can do that for you. If you want your trap music their rappers out there for you. If you want your drill music their are rappers out there for you(R.I.P. Pop Smoke). You just have to know where to look I mean there are a lot of artists out here doing their thing. Hip-Hop is so wide in its range it hard to pigeon hole it’s under a singular opinion.

SNBangtan

Lol. Strange and People are my favorite on the albums. I think Strange is great to just turn on and vibe to. It reminds me of Eminem's Mockingbird. It's the second most listened to track on the mixtape after People. The music has a jazzy, speakeasy type feel for me. I really enjoy it.

Julianne

I loved this album. It’s moody, and very much cathartic. It’s dark but in a way that allows you to keep going and not dwell on the darkness. It’s also very thoughtful. I love it as a whole, listening to it all together. My favs are Moonlight, People, Strange, Set Me Free, and Dear My Friend. Especially Set Me Free. When I heard the album for the first time, instantly the interlude was my favorite lol.

Julianne

All of BTS members are incredibly thoughtful and introspective people. I find it incredible that suga in particular, as such a driven and ambitious person in life with very strong passions, can make me feel so at peace with feeling mediocre and average and aimless. That suga in particular with all his dreams and passions, is also the most comforting when he says it’s ok to just go about life. It’s ok to feel aimless and dreamless and like you’ve achieved nothing bc living is worth something.

dani

my favorites are definitely moonlight, 28, and people! also thank you so much for this i’ve been wanting to see your reaction to d-2 since it came out and i’m so happy you enjoyed it :) can’t wait to see the listening party to be!!!

R875d

wow, great reaction it is really worth all my enthusiasm, thank you PD. to me I also prefer this more than the last mixtape, like you said I really feel worried about SUGA especially (The Last) I cry a lot whenever I heard it. in this mixtape I add to my Spotify playlist (Dear My Friend),(What do you think),(People),(Daechwita). I feel like (Burn it) it is like a message to past himself. for (STRANGE) I like to share it with ppl, I feel like this song make you think about a lot of stuff.

Angelica Yap

SO excited to see you finally did D-2!!! And always look forward to hear what you have to say :) It's absolutely one of my fave mixtapes/albums. As great as his first one was, I completely understand, I can never really go back to it too much. In this one, the only song that really unsettles me is Honsool, so I don't repeat it often. But I guess that's the effect it's meant to have haha. My favourites are What Do you think?, Strange and People for sure! I don't know how exactly to explain it but Strange is exactly the type of vibe i like when listening to music haha, but also anything with suga+RM is love. ;p Thanks for the listening party, PD!

미니

i feel like the first mixtape was really a venting point and this one is much more mellow and philosophical if that makes sense. that’s probably due to Yoongi being older and having a different perspective on things. he’s much less angry now i feel like. all of them are in fact. rm’s mixtape also was much more calm and mellow compared to his first one. they grow up and changed as people do. you can’t expect them to keep the same mindset in their later twenties as in their early twenties. but ultimately i like d-2 more cause like PD said it’s easier to listen to and it’s way more emotional.

Alison Renaud

I feel so blessed to be able to go through this life with BTS and all their music. But especially the rap line and their mix tapes. It always feels like they are giving us their personal diaries. Everything they write and produce is so real and personal and emotional. I love how they just give us deep songs that make us feel every line, verse, and note. I wasnt sure if youd like deep dark stuff like this. Since you do you need to listen to B.I. Waterfall album that album is straight up B

Alison Renaud

Ok I dont know what happened to my other comment I was writing... if its there then this is a continuation lol You need to listen to B.I.s album Waterfall it is straight up his personal diary. That album is now in my top 5 albums of all time. If we can make requests here then that is one I highly recommend and won't shut up about how amazing it is. Also other albums are NCT Dream Hot Sauce or Hello Futue if you wanna feel happy after listen to these darker albums lol. Also Shinee Atlantis repackaged album and ATEEZ Fever pt.2 and Oneus Devil first full length album are all amazing!! Thank you for this reaction! Im so happy you got to listen to this mix tape!

Macie

PD has already done a listening party for Waterfall, you should check it out! https://www.patreon.com/posts/listening-party-52386384?utm_medium=clipboard_copy&utm_source=copy_to_clipboard&utm_campaign=postshare

Fun fact: the "부딪힐 것 같으면 더 세게 밟아 임마" line you really liked in Moonlight is a reference to the HYYH PT.2 intro Never Mind! I thought it was pretty neat ^^

Shannon Ryan

Dear my friend hits me so hard every time.

Ioana C.

Well, the first mixtape was a lot about mental health issues, anxiety depression, so it hit home with me, had it on repeat a while until a friend got worried about me and also I was just getting into BTS and there was so much more that I had to check out and new stuff coming out so that's why I left it alone finally. But now? I'd totally enjoy it again, because I just love agressive sounds, they de-stress and motivate me (I grew up with rock and metal too and it had the same effect). And at the same time I love the second mixtape too, it's a continuation of the story, a sequel to me and it also makes you think a lot about our lives today, as in "Strange", and as I grow up with him (he's just 2 years older), his music remained as personal and relevant to me.
