Horror Movie Night will be today at 6PM PST. Please vote on a movie and we'll choose the top pick at 5PM PST! These are based on your suggestions and some of my own research. I've gone ahead and added the synopsis for these to make it easy on y'all :)

Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum (2018) - KOREAN

Note: Apparently this film was wildly successful and is the second highest grossing horror film in Korea. While I think "found footage" films usually suck, apparently this film is way better than American "found footage" films. What's scarier: this is a real place in Korea and CNN has listed it as one of the freakiest places to go to in the world.

Synopsis: The crew of a horror web series travels to an abandoned asylum for a live broadcast. It soon encounters much more than expected as it moves deeper inside the nightmarish old building.

The Doll Master (2004) - KOREAN

Note: I fucking HATE dolls. That is all.

Synopsis: A male model (Hyeong-tak Shin), a sculptor (Kim Yoo-mi) and others arrive at a creepy museum in the hope that they will be immortalized in doll form.

Death Bell (2008) - KOREAN

Note: I saw trailers for this when I was in Korea and it seemed interesting but I've never seen it. While I've been intrigued to see it, I've been too chicken to start.

Synopsis: Trapped by a maniac, teenage students (Nam Gyu-ri, Kim Bum) must solve a series of puzzles or suffer horrible fates.

The Conjuring (2013) - AMERICAN

Note: I've only heard high praise about this film and have been told it's a "slow burn" scary.

Synopsis: In 1970, paranormal investigators and demonologists Lorraine (Vera Farmiga) and Ed (Patrick Wilson) Warren are summoned to the home of Carolyn (Lili Taylor) and Roger (Ron Livingston) Perron. The Perrons and their five daughters have recently moved into a secluded farmhouse, where a supernatural presence has made itself known. Though the manifestations are relatively benign at first, events soon escalate in horrifying fashion, especially after the Warrens discover the house's macabre history.

The Descent (2005) - BRITISH

Note: I know little about this but anytime I hear this mentioned people groan. I don't know if it's because it's that scary or that bad??? But because of that I'm curious.

Synopsis: The film follows six women who, having entered a cave system, struggle to survive against the humanoid creatures inside.

Have you ever seen a tale of two sisters? It’s an Asian horror movie and I think it’s probably one of the best movies I’ve ever seen

Death Bell 💜

You should put hereditary. It came out in 2018 That movies legit made me never watch a horror movie again ever since watching it

David Nystrom

The Descent. It is one of my all time favorite horror flicks. I did an in-depth study of it back when I took a horror films class in college. It’s great.

Mehdi

The Descent is a western horror masterpiece. Probably the last one, before A24 take over horror genre.

The Descent is awesome, easily one of the scariest movies I've seen

Anonymous

the conjuring has a special place in my heart and honestly the film is done so beautifully

Marcela Pereira

I'll vote anything BUT the conjuring.

Babkis

The Conjuring is an absolute masterpiece. Was one of the first horrors I've ever watched and it will always be one of my favs

juls

Will the recording be saved and posted for those who cant join live? :)

I never watch horror movies and usually I refuse to even go near them, but I loved Hereditary! The story was interesting enough for me to not be creeped out too much

Nico Engels

Will there be a VOD? It will be 2am for me and I am not able to watch it live, but I would like to rewatch it the next day. :) EDIT: Ah you already answered, thanks!

Based on the synopsis i want to watch Gonjiam, but based on the how-freak-out-PD-would-be entertaining level, i have to go with the doll one

rockthekazb0t

I loved it as well, that's why I suggested it. Sure it has some typical horror tropes but well, that's the genre lol

Samantha

Okay so for those of y’all who like bad horror movies I MUST recommend The Hell House series. It’s so bad that it’s actually amazing, my bestie and I watched them on Shudder just to pass the time one day and fell in love with the low budget badly written but still so well done???? movie. If u read a synopsis or watch the trailer it sounds so bad but when you watch the series it’s actually a beautiful mess of a cheap horror series, I have to share !

rockthekazb0t

I'm still gonna vote for my pick (The Descent) because it deserves more recognition but I'd be happy to watch with the current frontrunner as well.

Lynn Fionne

Eh... I've watched Gonjiam before and it's one of the most boring horror films I've ever watched, and I'm one that is easily terrified LOL! But I'm down to a horror film party no matter which film wins!

Calida

PD I thought you hated horror stuff 😂

MsMercedes

What a coincidence my friend and I were just watching another show completely unrelated to horror but there was a cave involved and she mentioned to me that The descent was just one of the most horrifying movies she's ever seen and her worst nightmare.

BaoziBang

I tried to watch The Descent once... It actually triggered a panicattack (yeay for childhood trauma)

Anonymous

i know none of these movies so imma just sit here and hope for the best

hayun lee

its losing but the descent is definitely the scariest imo, not in the standard horror way the others are but it makes you feel really anxious and claustrophobic 😭 it haunted me for literally weeks

rockthekazb0t

I'm loving all this The Descent love in the comments! I honestly thought most people had forgotten about this movie 😲

Jake Twohig

That’s funny, coz I watch horror movies constantly, completely desensitised to them. But Gonjiam is the only movie in probably the last 3 years to actually scare me a bit.

Jake Twohig

I love horror movies, so I’ve seen all of these. Gonjiam is my personal favourite, because I genuinely found it scary. But I think The Descent is probably the ‘best’ movie of these 5, if that makes sense. I enjoyed Doll Master and Death Bell, but they’re pretty trashy. Probably actually pretty good for a watch party, coz they’re kind of silly, and you wouldn’t feel too bad about not paying full attention to them. Although Death Bell does get a bit heavy at times.

Ivy

omg i listened to stephanie soo’s podcast about gonjiam but haven’t watched it yet so it would be perfect to watch!!

Layman's Outlook

The descent is a good film. British films from the 90s and 2000s have such a unique feel to them and you get some real 10 out 10s.

formoftherapy

I'm gonna be upfront with you, there is no winning situation here. It's ALL lose. NO ONE WINS.
