Thank you PD, I appreciate all your hard work!

I don't think Niki was inherently wrong in trying to stand out. But I do think his biggest flaw (which probably also has to do with how young and inexperienced in just life he is) is poor communication. I think he should have let the team know first. It's not even just asking K as their de facto leader. I think he should have brought it up with the whole team like "hey I want part 2 bc I need to stand out as a low ranker, but I'm also worried about messing up so I can take part 4. But because I don't want to be dropped I want to consider changing up some of my moves". Honestly, yeah maybe not everyone would agree, and maybe K def wouldn't see his point. But also now Niki's let everyone know, and at the very least even if he wants to go through with ad-libbing and stuff, it won't be a shock to the whole team. And they'll have at least heard him out and his reasoning. But I mean, K's words were also a little harsh. If this wasn't as tense due to upcoming elimination, K prob could've/should've/would've approached with more discussion and a different tone that's less outright accusatory. Because no matter how right you think you are, accusations get you nowhere and people just become defensive. (Also I wrote this before I continued watching the vid, so I 100% agree with you pd)

The scene with k and niki talking still cracks me up cause hanbin was just chillin eating his snacks and shit😂 niki wants wrong for adding in his own touch I mean that’s a main point in dancing is to add your own flavor I mean at least for majority of dancers. And k wasn’t wrong for getting upset either I get his point in respecting the original choreo. But I will say he was wrong for doing it again after the fact k told niki not to do the move anymore but he still did it during the evaluation and even had deuk tell him not to do it as well. Niki is just a stubborn teenager thats all it is 😂

whoops didn't realize this was a dual update and almost spoiled this episode with the next for myself hahaha (edit) I agree with what you said about Ta-Ki, and Niki as well. I feel like some of them still hadn't learned the lesson from part 1, which is yes it is in essence an individual competition, but you're also performing in groups, so people will also be looking at the whole performance, and if it doesn't feel harmonious, the whole team's score will be pulled down, regardless of how well one individual did. Regarding the songs, I think INU requires the most nuance, it calls for a lot of facial expressions, and while FL also has those elements, you can somewhat hide behind the dance because the choreo is harder than INU, and DNA is obviously the one you have to have portray enough energy because it's a very upbeat song.

It's weird having so much respect for a kid much younger than me but yo Heesung is a boss. Also, I remember seeing a comment during the original airing of the show that said Heesung is already ready for debut he's just waiting for the members who'd debut with him and now rewatching the fake love performance with you I couldn't agree more. Kid is admirable. The Niki - K situation is hard to watch. It's unfortunate but we can't blame either of them. It's a stressful situation and they're kids. Anywayyyyy always fun rewatching with you PD!

Ena

Niki has always been so ambitious and while that’s an amazing thing, he can sometimes have too much and it can also be his downfall. Like he’s so young and if i put myself in his shoes at his age, i would be the same so i totally understand where he’s coming from. I guess overall he knows he’s good and wants to show it, which isn’t a bad thing, but he ends up going at it in a really individualistic way. He’s just a kid so i’m very very confident he’ll begin to balance team and individual needs as he grows up. Rooting for him!!!!!

Giu Bressani

sung deuk is actually BTS' official choreographer and made most of their past work and while he doesn't really make BTS' choreo anymore, he's still their performance director and chooses their choreo from other people and all of that! He's also worked on TXT choreo before

eli_nhdoaek

It’s just funny that Jay can understand Japanese so he was just eavesdropping from K and Niki’s conversation whole Hanbin has 0 clue with what’s going on and just munching away with his crackers

Emily L.

Sorry still watching, but I just wanted to say this bc it threw me off when you mentioned it and I'm a choir nerd! I Need U unit performed in the song's original key, maybe Jungwon's tone made you think it was lower? But yeah only Fake Love unit performed their song in a lower key, probably to help Taki be able to hit any of the notes with his changing voice. They definitely were practicing the original key initially based on that portion when they were singing "fake love" in the dining area

SanjA1800

This is a skill I wish I had. I'm just like Yap sounds good to me or sounds bad. What key lol?

Giu Bressani

Not PD forgetting to change the camera back and me just guessing what's going on for like 5 min before they noticed 😭😭😭

Briana

I truthfully never liked K, I think he is a great performer and all, but I just didn't like his personality. While I understand why K was upset with what Niki did (and I found it reasonable to tell him not to do that or that he should tell them about it before hand, I think he took the conversation and everything too far, especially with calling him into another room when quite frankly the conversation should have ended after Niki said he wouldn't do it anymore). I also don't like how differently everyone treats Niki and Taki even though they are the same age (Niki is actually younger by a month). They expect more from Niki and treat him like he is older but they let Taki be his age. Additionally, while this is a competition, one fault I have had with iland was how individualistic it was even though they are suppose to form a group

Emily L.

Popping in again, I think the reason why they kept mentioning the BTS test being an individual match was bc they would each individually receive a score, and then the combination of said scores made up the team's score. You may have realized it later on, but yeah Taki got the lowest score out of everyone, but his teammates' scores (man nothing could ever beat Fake Love Heeseung) was what allowed them to beat DNA overall, and I'm sure you saw that Jungwon's individual score was why they weren't that far behind DNA

Emi R.

Oof I had similar opinions to yours while watching the show. I really liked Daniel in part 1 but when he ranked so low with the producers I got nervous about the rest of part 2. Sad to say I wasn’t surprised about Geonu either. I know he was really close with a couple of the I-landers so my heart broke for them but not enough that I’d want to swap him out with anyone else if you know what I mean 😬

Tesa

all i wanted to do was give Taki a hug when they were preparing for the performance. poor kid. but he definitely isn't ready for debut now.. Heeseung really impressed me this episode both as a person and a performer! i'm really starting to like him

M.C.

- I felt bad for Niki, and Geonu this episode. Like you said, K was stressed and I think it's both the pressure of nearing the end as well as being the oldest on I-land and him feeling like his debut chances are more limited the longer he takes cause of his age. I don't think Niki changing his move was that big of a deal, but he should have definitely ran it by K. Sung Deuk's suggestion to have everyone do something different at that point made sense too. That being said at the beginning of part 2 they said it was an individual rank/race from then on. I do think they should focus on the team though. The changing moves/individual idealism has come up several times now: 1) In episode 2 when Hee was teaching the moves slightly different then what the video showed and Niki and the others were upset about it 2) Hee saying they practiced individually because they would be scored individually and that would in turn raise their teamwork score when the round was about teamwork 3) Niki loosing his confidence and trying to focus more on his improvement instead of leading the rest of ground in their dance practice 4) Kyungmin? EJ? changed the one hand move to a two hand move in I&Credible to stand out more cause he was 12th place. It makes sense that they want to stand out because it's a competition show, but at the end of the day they are also forming a group and a group can't work without teamwork. -Sung Deuk told DNA team that they could of all changed up the dance move if Niki was going to do it, but at least from what we are aware of, he didn't give Geonu and Taki a way to deal with their things. I know I'd be hard to teach how to express an emotion while performing, I would have liked to see him doing it(maybe they cut it out). He told Taki he was fast too, but we didn't see him demonstrate like Heeseung did later. He might not have had time or maybe they just cut it out, but it - I thought that everyone in DNA did well, but Fake Love was also good. Fake love is my favorite title track and I really like I Need U too. DNA is like my least favorite title track, but I really liked DNA team's performance. It felt refreshing. Besides Jungwon, I Need U felt like they were trying too hard to convey the emotion that it came off unnatural and in your face. I do think Fake Love is a little easier to express than I Need U though. - I don't like the exemptions on this show, it doesn't even feel like the show to do them on. It can be nice if your favorite person is in danger of eliminations, but it also feels weird in a show that's about putting in the work and working your way up. - I just had a thought that maybe they did this backwards and part 1 and 2 should be switched in terms of if the boys are forming their own team. I don't know if I'd work well, but you could have the boys vote people off and then the coaches ate people or the other way around.

A little extra context: After this episode, native Japanese speakers were able to point out that the method (?) or form of Japanese that K used when scolding Ni-ki was extremely harsh, they explained it was the kind of speaking you would hear in very strict sporting teams in Japan. One one hand, K is a big athlete and it makes sense that’s what he would fall back on, however Ni-Ki was fourteen at the time, and K was twenty-three, so a lot of people felt it was inappropriate. It caused him to lose a lot of popularity after this episode though, especially in Japan and among Japanese viewers.

Bina

It's actually really funny how twitter was in chaos after seeing how scary Sung Deuk can be as an instructor but as a Moa all I could think about is how Hueningkai from TXT during a live said how Sung deuk reminds him of a sad hamster, then tried to back track and say its because he's cute when Taehyun asked him what if Sung deuk sees their live lmaoooo.

Wiktor

awkward moment when K is telling Niki off... but jay secretly knows Japanese 😂 and just listening in.

Tenken

To be honest, ever since I watched the Butterfly performance, I pretty much figured that Geonu wasn't going all the way. The dude is definitely talented as a singer, but as an idol, singing well can only get you so far. He was greatly overshadowed by Heeseung during Butterfly to the point where it made the perf feel unbalanced. And whenever I saw his parts come up in any group performance he always felt generally forgettable. He is a decent performer but at this point of the competition, "decent" just doesn't cut it. I wasn't surprised at all when he and Taki ended up at the bottom of the rankings.

Catrin

What you were saying about you being a leader who'd be good in war but not peace - I think of K as being like that. He's not a bad leader necessarily, but he's very authoritarian rather than being diplomatic and encouraging open discussion, and I don't think that was a style of leadership that worked well with Niki.

Sarah Batt

The way geonu didn’t shed a tear just makes me wanna cry even more.

Matea Luke

pd i just have to say i loved your mini rant about "people" who hate on idol. being a huge stay (stray kids fan) has showed me that people hate just to hate, being on stan twitter is absolutely horrible, you wouldnt even believe the amount of hate stray kids get for no reason. they are literally punching bags for stan twitter and its been this way for years and it makes me sick, like cant you just treat them like a normal human being???

Kpop_Platypus

I remember liking K less & less as the show went on. I think the pressure really got to him & caused him to become uptight and a bit of a jerk. Jungwon's got the prettiest eyes! I see his promotional photos & go 🤩😍. I'm pretty sure we told you it'd be ok to watch on the couch or something PD, if you can wrangle the setup. I guess I'm not compassionate enough to feel bad for Taki. He frustrated me so much in this episode. He screwed up from the start, choosing his members rather than a song, & those members had to bear the burden. Maybe because he was never on my list of faves, so I felt like he was dragging those who were on my list down. 🤷‍♀️ He got damn lucky that the rest of his team pulled together & enabled him to be saved from elimination - & he should feel guilty about it. I do hope he grows & matures enough to debut someday, but PD's right that it was never going to happen on I-LAND. I'll get to ep 9 tomorrow. 😁

JustCakie

While I did like K through the show I have to agree on the Ni-ki and Taki thing. It was incredibly frustrating to watch them all baby Taki the entire show and then treat Ni-ki like an eldest Hyung because he is a good dancer. It felt like the expectations for both of them were at opposite ends of the spectrum even though they were both 14. Ni-ki was never treated his age for a second and it worked against him the entire time

JustCakie

Guys remember not to spoil future episodes in the comments. PD does not know who debuts. Some of you are getting a little obvious about who does and doesn’t make it 😅

Briana

Oh interesting, I had no clue that people from Japan also had an issue with it and explained what happened. Later episodes with him make sense now.

Anonymous

taki's debut was confirmed during new years if you didn't know. Along with K, Kyungmin, Nicholas and EJ + one new member that wasnt in iland.

amberrr

its like you're just drawn to sunoo because that's just who he is as a person. he might be introverted but the way he speaks, his mannerisms, etc. it just makes you drawn to him in a way LOL. like sunghoon and heeseung said, he has his own flare

SNBangtan

What you said about Sunoo being introverted but without inhibition, it made me think of Jin. He's an introvert but you'd never know it from the way he acts on camera sometimes. But it's that same thing. He really doesn't have a lot of inhibitions (and of course as the eldest, he takes it upon himself to break the ice and make everyone comfortable). It's a really charming combination of traits when it comes to making someone super lovable.

Dharling

I know it's late, but I just want to say how I didn't particalary liked K or thought he was fit for being in Enhypen, because I thought he wasn't able to be under anothers leadership within the people on the show and he wasn't fit for being a leader yet, and wasn't fit to deal with young teens like Ni-ki, for not to mention how much pressure they put on Ni-ki compared to Ta-ki

Sarahvtae

I think the real problem with the whole Ni-ki & K situation is, that they're both leaders...but in very different ways, which caused their opinions to be totally different. I think both did smth wrong... 1. Ni-ki shouldn't have used the ad-lib again, after K told him not to. 2. But K had no right to tell some of these harsh things to Ni-ki...especially since he knows about his worries and how Ni-ki feels...Ni-ki is a kid. He shouldn't have to be called "selfish", just because he wanted to stand out a LITTLE bit. It is a team mission...BUT they are still being evaluated based on how they do individually. It was completely valid of Ni-ki to have his own opinion. Also...i feel like Jay wanted to say smth while K was scolding Ni-ki...but he probably held back, because K's his hyung.

Heather

thank you for appreciating Hanbin!! his positive energy is so endearing!!

Stephanie Dockery

I finally just started to watch show . I really love all the members that made onto Enhypen and this show is very good and interesting with how it’s made . I am so happy that few trainees from this show are or have debuted into Kpop groups in 2021. Geonu who I really like has a singer debuted in Justb this year along with another contestant which is Jimin who is now known as JM Bc there is another member named Lim Jimin Who was on the show called “ the fan “ which also where Yeji from Itzy was also on the show as well . Big hit is supposed to be debuting Boy group who Is promoting In Japan which supposed to have K , Ta-ki ,Nicholas and Ej . They supposed to be debuting this year which it’s half way through December so idk when they are debuting tho . And I know that’s Daniel signed with pledis entertainment so I really hope he will debut in company cuz I also really like him as well on this show . The contestants like Hanbin, Seon , Jaeho, Jaebeom, Youngbin,Taeyong, Yoonwon, Sungchul,Kyungmin as far as of now idk any news on what happened to them after I-land so I hope they can also one day become good enough to debut into a group , duo or soloist artist someday. They all have potential I think !!

yahoo i'm way late but i need to vent because this episode specifically angered me. it did back in 2020, it still does now. i'm gonna preface this by saying that i'm not a professional performer; i'm a psychology student. but i've been dancing for almost 16 years so i do have a, well, technical opinion. and maaaaaan, taki being fast made me so mad. you can hear the beat in fake love so well. even if you suck at getting a grip on rhythm and timing, this song makes it so easy to hit it. it really really pissed me off to see him so obviously off-beat. as for the i need u unit: uhh, they should be glad they had jungwon cause they'd have scored even worse otherwise. he carried. and k...i loved him. he was one of if not the first person i got attached to (well, actually, it was sunghoon cause i, too, used to be a figure skater lol) and honestly, it pained me to see everyone start hating him from that episode on. i do think he could've been more composed, but it is a competition show after all. ah, also! i would've loved to see sunghoon do the contemporary fake love intro but have heeseung sing the parts, that would've been even better lol. yeah, that's it. incoherent as fuuuuck, but whatever.

Anonymous

Well one thing i know for sure that heeseung absolutely killed it
