I do agree with their eliminations to the ground, though I liked some of them I think at the end of the day the 6 that stayed deserved their place

I think Seon is similar to me, I'm pretty smart and opportunistic but also sensitive. The only real difference I see is that when I break down, like he did when he got voted of, then I cry for an hour and after: GET ANGRY! I will accept the loss, move on and fucking do EVERYTHING to at least get back to where I started but always still try to surpass that! I absolutely HATE it when People underestimate me.

The result of elimination was predictable, as I wrote under 5th ep, people on Twitter accurately deciphered eliminated trainees in a few hours based on their clothing in the Seon spoiler part. Still, it really is interesting how a professional producer can easily do the same just based on the editing and other things. As for Seon... He participated in Produce season 2 and was eliminated on, I think, second or third voting. It probably influenced his approach on this survival show too.

I agree with the ones that were eliminated this episode. I think when I first watched, Jake and Geonu were a toss up for me at that point, but I didn't disagree about Geonu being picked. You're spot on about his facial expressions. I also agree about Seon. It's what bugged me about him the whole show. He was so focused on the internal politics of not getting voted out, that he never really worked to improve his performance or stand out. I'm all for being strategic and smart about the competition, but it still comes down to the performance. I think being in I-Land the whole time hurt him. Maybe if he had gone to ground at first, he would have been able to focus more on his skills.

PD just has to be careful though, because on Viki, the special episode is labeled “episode 6” so the Viki episode list has TWO episode 6s. The next real episode will be episode 7, going by Viki

PD being spot on with the eliminations. The first time I watched it I actually already liked Enhypen, so I knew. But re-watching it with you has given me a lot of perspective on several things, and I'm not surprised you knew right away just who wasn't making it. I'm really excited for your reaction to the next episodes. Part 2 is a lot more dynamic, I think, from a viewer's standpoint. See you there!

My brother is also watching this with me (his first time though) and he says that he might get into Enhypen + other groups that come from the other I-Lan contestants, lol!!

I supported geonu and Nicholas a lot watching this, I could feel that Nicholas was never gunna get the cut due to lack of screen time and there’s never feedback for him in a way that the producers supported him but I was heartbroken for geonu, to me he’s one of the few that sings really well along with jungwon and Heeseung but the judges were right, he never showed any facial expression, it’s like he couldn’t multitask enough on top of dancing and singing. I’m very curious to see your reaction once the global pick come in, to me some of the boys really showed their true colours once they came in and felt unsafe about their positions, it became more of a competition now that eliminations are starting

somehow I’ve grown attached to seon (he was one of my favourites ???) but i knew that if 6 ppl had to be sent to ground, seon would have to be one of them. i just wish that he could’ve gone ground ONCE at the start just so he could’ve improved or put more effort skill wise rather than being liked (obviously that is a strategy to not be voted out) bc it’s always going to backfire when you have to use your skills & talent to the producer’s standards who are way more critical.

I think the eliminated 6 were, at least in my opinion, quite obvious. Kyungmin, Jaebom, EJ and Youngbin were really lacking confidence (don't know if they even tried for bigger roles). Seon was to me like you said more a guy who laid the focus not being eliminated. Maybe it's the editing but it really seemed like this which also shows how he acted in ground. I mean he is the trainee with the longest training period in I-Land. And the fact that the producers say Jake, who hasn't even trained for 1 year, is better indicates a lot. He was strategic in the first episode going first where there was no reference and getting into I-Land with a performance that wasn't as good as others. And him being a leader/hyung to the I-landers kept him there. But people like Sunoo who did way better had to leave so I have no hard feelings for him not making it. Geonu has the skills, but he lacks the understanding that the facial expressions are really important.

I tend to like the boys that I-Land always villainize with their editing. To be honest, Seon has the looks that everyone COULD have like... but due to how they show him... did not work. I watched his fancams and honestly? It looks good? If the producers really like him, they can easily show him in the good light. They could have showed him being the father of the trainees because everyone tends to come to him when they have a problem. That can easily make him popular with the voting. I honestly think skill-wise, he's no lower than half of the debuting members. This might be controvertial but I honestly think the members of ENHYPEN were already premeditated or at least, they already know who they like. That's why when unexpected people performed better than expected, they always tried to put that person in a scenario where "he's not the best this round." "he's stagnant" bla bla bla because think about it, we seriously have no way to know if the person is actually being stagnant or what... or worse, I-Land would villainize them instead if the person is too good to put fault at his performance. Or when unexpected members become popular with voting but they do not think that person suit the group (e.g., Hanbin), they would again, try to put the narrative that he's not improving all of a sudden lmao. I mean even the trainees looked up to him???? What I'm saying is that it is SO easy to get the narrative that they want. Geonu has the best voice in I-Land but they keep saying he's not improving..... He sounded magnificent in his vocal duet. The grounders even picked him as the center for this episode among many others?? How is that lacking? Producers, just be honest and say you think he doesn't suit the group that you all have in mind and go.

Geonu improved a lot on facial expression on Into the I-land 23 applications version. You should rewatch that.

Hi PD, if you read this, I have a few questions for you. What do you think so far of the I-LAND elimination system shown in Part 1? Do you like it? Do you agree with it? Some of the criticisms are: 1. On ep 1 where applicants had to vote people into ILAND on the entry test. Some people said (and I agree with this) it should have been an anonymous vote, instead of asking them to show their hands up. Most of them did voted based on peer pressure, instead of objectively looking at the performance.  2. On where some ILANDERS needed to be sent to the GROUND after FIRE challenge (test 2), I think it would be fairer if they have 50% producers vote and 50% ILANDERS vote  (same as ep 6). Because it was all up to ILANDERS to decide, they voted based on who was close with them, not on their skills, which I think kinna sucks.  3. The 3rd test (unit representative test), I feel it's not fair that those who didn't participate on the test (i.e. not a representative) got a free without doing anything.  Also just want to add that the voting system in part 2 is full of bs!! I wonder if you will agree or not after you watch it.  The voting on ep.6, they said that it's for choosing  6 applicants to move into part 2. But in reality it served more purpose than that. Watch ep 7 to find out what it is! I was livid! They make up their own rules without telling us in advance.

got to disagree a bit with this - its true that geonu wasnt improving much. they’re correct about how he is skilled in terms of vocals and dancing, but his lack of aura and flat face expressions really put him down. being a great vocalist isnt enough to be an idol, you have to have “it”. i had the same thoughts as you when i first watched i-land (about how this and that didnt make sense) but as i watch it now with pd’s reviews and comments, i totally understand now why such things happened. i always thought about evil editing when i-land was airing, but rewatching now - it totally made me understand :) i respect your opinions, pls dont get me wrong! this are just my thoughts~

I kinda thought the same about seon. to me it looked like seon was way more focused on the "hunger games" aspect of the show rather than the trainee/idol one. everything about him felt like i was watching bigboss or something instead of an idol survival show.

idk if its very fair, because Geonu reminds me so much of Asahi from Treasure, and look how popular Asahi is now. Despite lacking expression, I think that's his personality, Geuno IS expressionless but so is Asahi and now Asahi goes for that more 'cold' expression instead, like Irene from Red Velvet or Yoongi from BTS. They have that cold, hard exterior on stage and it works for them. A lot of people have that blank expression as a default and I feel bad that it's what's considered his downfall when it can easily work to his advantage.
