I don’t even follow this group but this video felt like it was made to purely speak negative on a group as some form of way to get back at those people who were rude to you in the way they asked for this reaction 😬 I can name several kpop groups who are way worse in dancing/style/production....that you don’t rip apart in your reactions. This felt very off putting. Especially when you have said in the past you don’t put out reactions to things of you don’t like them...but all of a sudden decided to put out this reaction. 😬😬

Is this the group that was formed from Produce 101 Japan? I slightly remember seeing the Japanese version start after X1 debuted and before all the drama happened with the Produce shows. I also remember that the show was being filmed in Korea at the time and they didn't run it like the other Produce shows. They weren't stressing the tight choreography that most of the other shows were doing.

Chrispy

I completely agree with you in saying that they seem like they aren't as trained as kpop idols. From what I remember from watching like two or three episode of pd101 jp for a lot of the trainees they had never recieved any training in any form until they joined the show, which explains why they seem so uncoordinated.

i actually like the critique of the production since i barely catch anything unless it's obvious. i am so surprised at how fast you catch things at normal speed. I think you should do the critiques but do the disclaimers in writing and before you start critiquing so that way people aren't surprised. Good to know you like the song. First time I hear it and I like it too.

I respect your opinion pd, I watched all of produce 101 Japan and you could easily tell they weren't so strict on choreo compared to the original produce. I didn't notice many of the things that you pointed out, except for the mv and the directors trying to pull a kpop mv style, that was also seen in their debut song. Their first comeback Oh Eh Oh was written by Hui which didn't surprise me, it sounded like a song made by Hui. I'm getting off topic, my bad, but another difference from the Japanese produce and the Korean produce is that the Japanese trainees could not be a participants if they were signed with a company, so the few that were signed to companies, completely took the risk to get out and took a chance to be on the show. I was sad watching the last episode, and seeing that some of the people I believed should have made it didn't, but I'm glad the 2nd (Ren) and 3rd (Takumi) winners made it. You said most of them weren't great at dancing and only one or two were great, and that is because only two members within the group have been dancing for a long time (the 1st and 2nd winners - Issei and Ren) and the 3rd winner (Takumi) is a quick learner when it comes to dancing, facial expressions and singing. You pointed out someone in the back that messed up their choreo and i also noticed that he completely missed a whole turn on the pick me song, but i noticed it only happens on that one fancam ( if you want to see: search: Kawanishi Takumi It's Coming fancam). I'll still pay attention to them nonetheless, I want to see them grow and improve. I'm glad you did this reaction, whether you thought you were too harsh or not, its fine, I enjoyed seeing your genuine reaction. If you want, you can also check out Orbit's MV Universe, a lot of them were the ones I wish would have made it on to top11, but some things happened with a few members. They are of course a jpop group, just debuted, 3 of the members are Korean and were in the kpop group Halo until they disbanded. Would love to see your reaction to this, but only if you want to check it out. Once again, thank you for this and all the content you provide us with ❤🥰

Random comment...but are your plants real? And if so, are they easy to take care of?

"we're they the winners?!" i'm cackling. thank you for your honest opinion pd!

Imma be honest, if this was a fav of mine I would feel really sad, but I also enjoy seeing some critique just so I can keep an eye out for improvement, given that you did place a warning in the description (so I know what I'm getting lol), so no hate!

I'm so sorry that you were forced to make a reaction to this group. As a fan of them, I did gently request through your Patreon community (as is the standard). It saddens me to know that people literally have come to your DMs for a reaction. Will be editing this post later as I watch your critique!

Oof. Yep I love this song, and I agree about their dancing lacking synchronization and some of the members lacking facials, but part of me really feels your opinion was swayed because of those really aggressive requesters, so sorry you had to deal with those people. Part of me had hoped that you’d one day check out JO1, but knowing how this reaction was basically forced out, I don’t know if you’d want to check out anymore JO1 stuff. That being said, I feel that you’d enjoy JO1s “oh-eh-oh” a bit more than this one, it’s more of a story based mv.

Mari Koguma

Ren (who ranked the second) was actually a back up dancer for multiple kpop groups when they had concerts in Japan. Wanna One and Pentagon were one of them!!! JO1’s Oh-Eh-Oh was written by Hui and I remember I was excited about it because of the connection with Pentagon and Ren. I was glad that JO1 got an opportunity to perform Hui’s song :)

Okay, finally finished watching your critique video and honestly? I thought it would be harsh but it really isn't as bad as I thought it would be, haha. Watching and hearing your comments about their dance in the MV, it helped me notice those little details. I think if the boys can watch and understand your critique, they'd be grateful for that and they'd do a better job next time. (Frankly, I can easily ignore those details as I think I have a different gauge for J-Pop and K-Pop.) To give you a fair context, JO1 is indeed the group formed out of PRODUCE 101 JAPAN. Most of the contestants there are NOT signed under a company, so they are not really trained up to a passable K-Pop group level save for some notable few (Uehara Jun from PRODUCE X 101; Kim Heecheon, Kim Yoondong and Jeon Younghoon from HALO). I would agree that JO1 still has a long way to go if they are to be as good as a typical K-Pop group. I do think, however, that their road to growth is what makes J-Pop as it is. It's part of the charm to see their amazing growth. Thank you for reacting to JO1. I do hope that if you ever react to JO1 again, it would be less of a "forced to react to this because of annoying little pricks" and more of your own accord. :) I would definitely love to see more of these kinds of videos from you, PD! More power to you and your team.

as a person who follows jpop and kpop , i totally get ur criticisms. jpop has its own charm that its clearly missing in this mv... Kinda explains why the only song and mv i preferred from this group was OH-EH-OH, the m/v feels more Japanese to me... the thing is these days trends tend to be followed... kpop is the mainstream so Japanese or Chinese artist will just follow that instead of improving or promoting their own genre ( creating new trends).

i do agree with all the comments you made just about. as someone who recently became a fan of JO1, i couldn’t help but have the same thoughts as you did about this mv, and just the group in general. in their defense, i learned according to jpn produce rules to even enter the show, none of the contestants were allowed to even be under a company to join, so most of these guys had near to zero experience to professional training even. with that being said, i think for a seven month group with no prior experience, JO1 aren’t terrible. in regards to the choreography of this song in particular, as someone with a dance background, this choreo makes me so angry lol. whoever oversaw this dance and even crafted it should get fired fr. it’s not good! love the group though, and it isn’t their fault.

Its funny I only heard of this group like 5 days ago. They released a song called "Born to be Wild" which I had heard randomly on a Spotify radio. At first I thought must be a K-pop group doing a Japanese song, I was so shook when I found out they were actually J-pop and all Japanese. I am someone who generally doesn't care about choreography regardless of what type of music(I find it annoying if it becomes an impediment to singing), so I generally wouldn't have focused or noticed those things you mentioned. Hence I appreciate the perspective you brought to it. What I generally find different between K-pop and J-pop is this sense of polish that K-pop has versus J-pop is way more rougher around the edges. Both have their charms and should be appreciated as they are. So its definitely weird to see a J-pop group like this to attempt K-pop and of course not weird to see them not being to execute it as well. That being said there's always room for improvement and I'd like to see where they take off from here. In a world where everyone's expected to start at perfect, seeing a hopefully successful journey that starts out from almost scratch is a rarity of sorts. So good luck to JO1 and hopefully we get to see much more improvement from them all and as a whole. If you got to this point, thank you for coming to my TED talk :)

[LONG POST AHEAD] Hey! Just hopped onto this Patreon a few weeks ago, so I’m coming into this reaction really late. I’m a JO1 fan, as well as a fan of many K-POP groups, so I came here just to share my thoughts on this reaction and some information that could help you understand this group a little more. Disclaimer: I’m not the biggest JO1 fan out there who knows everything about them, so if there are inconsistencies or if I share something incorrect, I’m really sorry about that! I’m just a casual fan who wants to defend them, and yes, you can assume that my opinions will be biased towards them. (But, really, all of our opinions are biased towards a specific idea or emotion anyway.) Before anything else, I’d like to say that I’m really sorry for the behavior that JO1 fans and/or other rude people have shown to you in your DMs. That’s really toxic behavior and the disrespect is real. I don’t really know a lot of JO1 fans, but I do hope that a good majority of them are respectful people. As a few people have mentioned in the comments above, JO1 was formed by Produce 101 Japan. I do feel like coming from there, JO1 was really meant to be a group that resembled what a K-POP group is typically like. JO1 is handled by Lapone Entertainment, which was founded by CJ E&M and Japanese company Yoshimoto Kogyo, so they really do get a lot of influence from K-POP groups into the different music styles and concepts they put out. JO1 has also had Korean producers like Hui to work on the songs they release and Korean choreographers like Choi Youngjun to work on their choreography. I’m not completely sure about this, but I do think that they’ve trained in South Korea for a while. They have also made appearances in all four of K-CONTACTs, which shows how JO1 is being marketed similarly to K-POP groups. PD’s critiques are definitely valid, though. They’re not yet as synchronized as other K-POP groups, and I don’t think their training has been as extensive as the training done in Korea, but I wouldn’t say that they haven’t been trained by a Korean team (seeing as how CJ E&M lowkey manages them as well). I think that JO1 is still growing and improving as a group, and I believe if you see their recent releases, they have improved so much from this era! Every single member of this group has their own talents and charms to share, but unfortunately, Lapone is kind of a sh*tty entertainment too, so these talents are not always utilized or shown. Again, I’m not the most knowledgeable JAM (JO1 fandom name) out there, but I hope I was able to provide some context for future patrons who view this reaction! I hope I haven’t offended anyone (I’m too lazy to proofread this because it’s so long), but if I have said something offensive, please do tell me. If you’ve made it this far, thank you for hearing me out! Have been a fan of PD’s channel since 2018 and I’ll always be here to support PD’s future reactions and endeavors 💜
