The Japanese version is pretty decent(song and MV) but the artistry and sheer drama of the original version is still #1 for me!

Honestly feel like the Japanese adaptation wasn't that bad as i would have expected! But the Korean ver. and English ver. definitely hit harder. The M/V as well? Japanese M/Vs tend to reuse sets a lot and seem more low budget than their Korean counterparts, i feel.

I think they did an interesting job of re-interpreting the theme for the Japanese M/V. The Heaven & Hell visual concept was maintained, however if the Korean version was black and white, this definitely felt like there was a few more shades of grey in-between. According to Soyeon, Oh my god is about trusting yourself through the metaphor of loving someone, even if that love is considered a sin by others/society. I think the lens of this version is more introspective. It shows the journey of finding self trust, and visualizes it as rebirth. At first we see the members searching for something (which we can infer is the confidence to trust their own judgement), and once found (symbolized by the light) they are reborn - Bird nest imagery, flowers blooming, and Soyeon with the wings of a Phoenix. I think the flowers also represent the truth found within themselves, and the wounds are the hardships they've suffered through to reach it.

The make-up in this video was incredible!

The aesthetics were cool and I loved Soyeon's rap and SHUHUA's tone in this version

I read the flower wounds as flowers blooming from within, bursting through the skin and actually causing the wounds. That’s at least what the sfx makeup seemed to indicate. It was reminiscent of that scene in the fountain (movie) where the Spanish explorer drinks the sap from the tree of life because he wants to live forever...and plants/flowers burst from within him, through his mouth and skin and eyes etc. and he becomes a tree. So I guess you could read it as a hidden interior truth that bursts out. There was something about this mv that felt a little off to me, like they had all the ingredients of a really great mv but it just didn’t quite come together. I’m not sure if it was the pacing in the editing, or the shot angles, or some kind of combination? Because, at face value, the sets and imagery were really great and it should have worked.
