oh my gosh I've been waiting for this. I find it really fascinating to see how they've been aging twice in their mvs in the last year. Like you mentioned with Fancy, its absolutely still a sugary twice song, and even in the mv there's several moments - particularly around Sana's prechorus - where the more cutsy elements come back into play even in the visuals. Breakthrough really does feel like the more mature shift that JYP has been building up to for a while now as Twice slowly shifts away from the ultra bubblegum pop that songs like Cheer Up were. The fact that this is a duo release is especially interesting because of the fact that in a lot of ways Happy Happy feels like a backpedal on a lot of the maturation that the last couple comebacks have been working towards, in the exact same vein as Candy Pop and some of their earlier music. Its a test, exactly like you said.

I'm just getting into twice and when I watched them perform Fancy I couldn't keep my eyes off Jihyo, she just goes 200%.

One thing I will say: you commented on the harsh lighting in Happy Happy, and tbh that's been pretty standard in all of their Japanese MVs until Breakthrough. I've mentioned it to my friend like: NO ONE looks good in that harsh stage/set spotlighting that they use in the JP releases, but somehow Twice look even MORE beautiful. It defies all logic. That being said, you're right on with the "JYP is a genius" thing. Fancy only being mature with the video/outfits, then Breakthrough going full mature but not being a full on Korean release? His method of giving fans what they want and aging the concept, but not so fast as to alienate the base? *chef's kiss* Beautiful. Also agreed, Park Jihyo please step on me and I'll say "arigato"
