Testing the waters on something new. We're going to do reaction to J-Pop here on Patreon! If you didn't know, Japanese copyright is strict and we can't really do Japanese reactions on YouTube. But I've been really getting into some Japanese stuff lately and want to check out more so I thought I'd bring you all along for the journey. So I'm aptly naming this series "Discovery Discography".

So YouTube suggested me this random MV on my home page and HOLY CRAP it's amazing. It's a Japanese R&B song called "Wonderland" by iri and it is a GEM. Join me and check it out!

This is just a test so let me know if you want to see more like this and if you have any suggestions, leave them in the comments below!

*FYI: J-Pop Reactions will be Patreon ONLY exclusives but they will be available for ALL tiers!

Same, nice find. I got back into J-Pop again after almost 20 years and it feels a bit like coming home :)

I love this! looking forward to what you'll react to. Also if possible could you check out kenshi yonezu's discography he has some amazing songs!

Love this series! I really look forward to seeing more j-music reactions.

This song is so good!! I just added it to my playlist because I'm always looking for more japanese music. Some of my personal favorites are Yellow - Yoh Kamiyama and also everything by Kenshi Yonezu but Lemon and Peace Sign might be my favorites from him. I'm looking forward to the rest of this series! Also Mukai Taichi has a really awesome voice. In his song Fly he pulls off some pretty gritty vocals which is super awesome.

Try checking out Perfume - I personally really like "Let me know" and "Spending all my time". I also really recommend Flower, their dance and cinematography is amazing - check out "Moon Jellyfish", "Hokanodarekayorikanashiikoiwoshitadake" and "Kurenai no Dress" (there is only an edited version of the last video on youtube as far as i can see, but it is still so beautiful). I also recommend the electronic rock band Negoto, check out "Asymmetry", "Eternalbeat" and/or "Sharp". The girl group Keyakizaka46 is also really good - check out "Kuroi Hitsuji" or "Kazenifukaretemo". If you want to listen to some japanese hip hop, check out BananaLemon, they're a new girlgroup "#Slaysian" is my favourite, but "Girls gone wild" is also really good :)

Oh, I have more! Check out "スダンナユズユリー / LOOK AT ME NOW", "E-girls / EG-ENERGY" and "Happiness / POWER GIRLS". Happiness and Flower (which I recommended in my earlier comment) form E-girls together :) スダンナユズユリ is a hiphop trio, two of the members are from Happiness and the third is from E-girls :)

I've actually already seen that one so if you have more Chanmina recommendations lmk!

It does feel weirdly nostalgic and awesome even if I only got into "anime" songs like 15years ago

I'd recommend checking out some songs by Mondo Grosso, especially ラビリンス ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2quiyHfJQw ) or False Sympathy ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6Y-WsgpzlQ )

If you want to listen and watch a very unique solo artist try listening to Reol. My favourites of hers are "Gekihaku" and "Saisaki" !

Haiiro to Ao, Loser, Peace Sign, and Orion are some of my favorites though the most well known and popular is lemon

I think my favorite Japanese artists are Wagaki Band, Perfume and Garnidelia. I am really looking forward to this series so I can get introduced to some more!

I love iri! There's a bunch of new jpop artists making waves in the scene. Definitely check out Chanmina's "I'm a Pop", a Half Korean Half Japanese rapper, WEDNESDAY CAMPANELLA's "Melos" an amazing piece by an indie pop trio who consistently create beautiful MVs, YAYOI DAIMON's "NO BRA!" a fierce rap heavy song about woman empowerment and RIRI's "Summertime" a pop singer with wonderful vocals. Also some notable Jpop idol/artist groups have good songs there's Sudannayuzully's "TEN MADE TOBASCO" offering some great retro vibes, BananaLemon's "Girls Gone Wild" a hard hitting in your face song, FAKY's "Afterglow" a banger with an MV with a nice message about fan obsession, Happiness "Ordinary Girls" an experience not too dis similar to Love Cherry Motion (MUSIC SAVIOR!), E-Girls' "Showtime" a vocal and dance heavy group who've been around for a long time, CY8ER's "Kataomoiwazurai" another song not too dis similar to Love Cherry Motion (hold on to your wig and don't let the cute girls fool you) and finally Flower's "Tears of A Tropical Fish" one of my favourite groups who blend Japanese traditional melodies into the modern era.

Def checkout Perfume, the are pretty much legends

Caitlin

I also recommend Perfume....I agree, they are legends. I think you would find their mv “Future Pop”, “ Pick Me Up”, “Tokyo Girl” and “Mugenmirari” interesting. thank you for introducing me to iri...I definitely want to check out more of her stuff. I also really like Hiroomi Tosaka (recommend Blue Sapphire and Full Moon), Dean Fujioka (History Maker and Let it Snow), Simple and Clean by Utada Hikaru (kingdom hearts theme song) and SIRUP (Loop, Rain, Do Well and Pool).

Caitlin

Also can you react to Taemin’s kpop releases (if you haven’t already seen them...probably have) and N flying just had a Japanese release WHICH WAS AMAZING (MVs called The World is Mine, Wanna Be, Stand By Me and Songbird) or even do a listening party to NFlying Japanese Brotherhood album and Taemin’s TAEMIN Japanese album?

Caitlin

Also Izone’s japanese releases are great as well!

Caitlin

BTS just dropped their mv for “Lights” which comes out tomorrow (Japanese release)...curious to hear your opinion on the mv and song https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eaUpme4jalE

Kia

Since you love a good rap break you should check out Wonder by Rude-a, also Summer End by Iri is another great song by her!
