The reasoning is, Onew at this stage of his career wants to reach the general audience. He swapped music shows, mainly watched by kpop fans, for festivals and more public performances where strangers could hear him for the first time. He sang beat drum at a mall for example. I also think it's health wise, Onew before April went on a 10-month hiatus. Music shows record in the middle of the night and then force you to be the next day too. So I think it's muti-layered.
