"Isn't being helped despite someone's best efforts" --- there was a desperate (and precious-time-wasting) back-and-forth between our little bear friend and that particularly annoyed mermaid before they both came to a fairly obvious conclusion:

Bear girl really ,really, really, REALLY needs to give back the excessive amount of lake water she drank...

And the mermaid really, really, really, REALLY, doesn't want it back now...

But there is no way paw-paddling that jon boat is gonna get our grizzly back to shore before the expanding volume of boiling pee becomes too much for her exhausted bladder to bear! X] (As if paw-paddling would've gotten her anywhere anyway!)

So, to get what they both want, the mermaid agreed to push while the bear focuses on doing everything she can to not relieve herself!

Of course, pushing was never going to be as fast as a working motor, even little waves make for a really bumpy ride, and every splash from the mermaid's tail fin is an irresistible siren's call beckoning for one body of water to reunite with the other!
