Thought experiment Scenario: War bogs down into long-term stalemate. Russia develops its domestic aircraft manufacturing industry up to international specs, The war ends, Russia ends up in a stronger position building/selling aircraft. Pure speculation, not likely, but not impossible.

Thought experiment: Presuming the Russo-Ukrainian War bogs down into a quasi-stalemate for years on end. Russia is a pretty big economy and the mere possession of all that hardware means the owners of it are going to be thinking of it as held hostage. Owners, who do not have physical possession of their aircraft, may be more malleable than their public sword-rattling might suggest. Insurers may balk at payouts. They may fear the destruction of the fleet... by mothballing and cannibalizing, for one, or blown to bits in a commando raid by Ukrainians,....and remind owners that the insurance might not cover the loss. Think big-shipping paying off Somali pirates, for example.. think of paying ransom for hijacked airliners in the past. The harsh calculus of corporate self-interest and large numbers during wartime, may lead the western aviation industry to cave-in to Putin in more ways than they admit now. Maybe taking aircraft parts/upgrades off the forbidden products list would do the trick, for example, while leaving other sanctions in place. Call it a safety measure.. make a lot of humanitarian-sounding political noise while caving in.
