Sherlock Holmes Behind the Scenes, pt. 4 (Patreon)
Content
Not much to say here, except it contains some of the first clues- both to Kathy's original storyline, and the one I eventually wrote. :)
Dialogue:
Holmes, steepling fingers: What was the motive?
Lestrade, consulting notebook: Clearly a robbery. He lived just long enough to say, "A rat..." Clearly a reference to Ballarat, Australia. Oh, he also said something about "gold fields." So it all fits. Robbery for gold.
Lestrade, as Holmes and Watson exchange glances: We really don't need your help on this one, Mr. Holmes--I'm just here to inform you of the Professor's demise. As you and Dr. Watson were the last people to see him alive.
Watson, irritably: Surely, you're not suggesting that we had anything to do with it?
Lestrade, tipping bowler hat: Oh, nothing of the sort, Dr. Watson! I know you gentlemen are above reproach and suspicion...
Lestrade, consulting notebook again: ...although...a witness said that a man answering to your description was seen leaving the laboratory about the time of the murder...
Holmes, scowling: Nonsense. Watson was here all evening. We both were.
Lestrade: Just mentioning a clue, Mr. Holmes. I know your insistence on having all the facts, no matter how inconsequential they may seem...
Lestrade, putting a finger beside his nose, and winking: ...and not to say the witness is the most reliable lady in town, if you get my meaning, Sir. She was the only person out that evening.
