I didn't have time this evening to finish up another "Roger's Story" strip, so to thank all you patrons, here's a strip from this summer's buffer, that I didn't use. I'd spent quite a bit of time this past early spring trying to build up a good buffer, in case work got ahead of me over the summer, and I was pretty thankful for it on more than a few occasions. :)

But, I'd drawn up several strips before I put a real "storyline" together, so in some cases the early dialogue had to be changed when it came time to actually use the artwork. This particular strip, slightly reordered, eventually became the "How are you around loud noises and open flames?" gag.

I even had an idea for a small brick joke to go with it: The next day, Sandy is talking to Doc in the office, about the usual paperwork, finally asking "And last, do you know why there's a carburetor in the breakroom?" :)

For modern car guys, I guess the question would be, "Holley or Edelbrock?"

Karmakat

ROFL i admit that would have fit right in and makes them REALLY perfect for each others

TomRedlion

LOL. That would have fit Doc like a favorite pair of old shoes.

Motorcraft makes carburetors? Maybe change it to 'Holley' - that's the other big name performance brand...

I love this one!

McClaw

There is at least one Motorcraft carburetor, the 2150, manufactured from 1973 to 1983.

Actually, I kind of specifically wanted Motorcraft for the gag- it's still a somewhat well-known brand (they supplied carbs for Ford from the 60s through the late 80s) but also much less well known (especially today) than Holley or Rochester.

(Basically an in-joke for the gearheads, in other words. :) )

Cool, nice to know it was intentional. :) I figured Motorcraft had made (or at least license-built) carbs like they do with lots of other stuff (Bosch starters/alternators, etc) but I just assumed an old gearhead like Doc would say "Why buy a Kenmore when you can have the real Maytag?" ;)

Still use Motorcraft carburators on old '75 Ford Kent industrial engines, teaching young adults the basics of being mechanics. Yup! That's my job.
