... And didn't even get a lousy T-shirt. :)

For those people asking, thank you, the shaker was exciting for a few moments there. Probably the strongest 'quake I've ever sat through, even if they did downgrade it to a 7.9 from the preliminary magnitude 8.

But I suffered no damage, nothing fell off the walls or shelves, the cat was largely nonplussed. A floating NOAA bouy out in the ocean a few miles north of the epicenter DID, however, supposedly record a "ten meter" spike in water height, which caused a Tsunami Warning and the coastal cities of Kodiak, Homer and Seward to be partially (voluntarily) evacuated.

The evacuations apparently went fairly smoothly, and there have been no reported incidents or injuries because of it. The warning was cancelled a few hours later and it seems everyone went home.

It IS, of course, better to be safe than sorry, as the '09 Indonesian and '11 Japanese tsunamis weren't all that long ago, and were certainly still fresh in people's minds.

Technically, if we had a monster wave like Indonesia got, I'm technically close enough to the shore that I might have gotten some minor flooding, but I think the underwater geography would have been entirely wrong for that.

Well, exciting for a little while, but then, there's a reason they call this the Ring of Fire. :)

Doc.

I am really RELIEVED that you are okay at least.

Good to hear your cat and yourself are undamaged :-) Any of your machinery sufficiently sensitive to the shakes that they need recalibration or levelling or whatever?

If you have the Ring of Fire, shouldn't you talk to a doctor, or at least get some Prepration H? ;-)

good news!

So... this earthquake... it wasn't anything to do with you was it? .... Are you sure?

Didn't get a t-shirt? I would imagine you are pretty close, now, to the capability of making your own, and possibly selling a few to neighbors!

Doc, don't trust the height to help you; Japan's tsunami caused chunks of land near shore to drop several feet, making everything worse... And tossed/pushed a boat onto a ledge 20 feet or so above the wave. Don't die to a boat.

Michael Marcoccio

What size T-shirt do you wear?, I'll see what I can do.

Lord Chaos

So shaken not stirred?

Clearly we need to try harder. Not sure if we need to move you closer to the epicenter or increase the power. Both?
