Slurp demo (Patreon)

Here is a new PSD demo for the Pipril mawshot picture ^^

So on this one I decided to keep most layers instead of merging them. It's a little bit messier than others demos as a result but it gives more idea how I go about stuff :3 

There are two thing to notice here. The first one is the mouth ( of course it's a mawshot after all !  ) and the saliva. Saliva is a topic I get often asked quite a bit about. It's not very hard to do once you get the hang of it I think :3 

Personally I divide it mostly in two layers : one layer where I'm going to paint in white stands of saliva. On this one I'm going to play with opacity quite a bit and use a low intensity eraser . basically it's an altered layer so it doesn't  show pure white but instead grayish strokes, imitating slightly the transparency of the liquid 

Then on top of it I put another layer where I paint pure, unaltered white spots here and there, trying to give a sense of volume. All the challenge here is to put them in the right place and subtly. you really don't want to have too much of those pure white reflects  or you will reduce a lot their impact ( on top of risking giving wrong information to the eyes of the viewer )

The second big thing is the eyes . Notice I did a lineart layer for the eyes, independent from the rest. It was in order to be able to work freely and separately on the two since I put a bit emphasis on the eyes in this picture and they are pretty detailed. Here the important part is the colored reflects layer on top of the lineart I think. it gives them a lot of life and some volume too. People sometimes forget that eyes are not flat a all ! 

In the next demo I'm going to talk about colored lineart ( I mean the lines themselves here ) which is a rather easy trick to do and yet goes a long way  to add a very cool finishing touch a picture :3
