MAJOR CHANGES TO MY PATREON COMING 2020 (Patreon)

Firstly apologies for being slow on content during November. Personal situations were affecting my motivation. I'm good now though so expect to see the ball rolling again!

Anyway, for a while now I've been considering a change in how I run my business. To put it simply I've decided that I'm going to switch content distribution to a timed exclusive model instead of the fully exclusive “paywall” one I've used up until this point. This means I will be releasing previous Patreon only content (Sketches, wips and doodles, both $1 and VIP $5+) publicly after certain intervals of time.

There are a number of reasons for this. Firstly I just feel like I'm finally confident enough to actually post this kind of stuff publicly. I think it would be good for me in terms of my online presence, exposure and productivity. Limiting my public galleries to just fully finished art has resulted in a slow, tedious output rate for years now. (Usually being just 2 to 3 uploads a month) The addition of “sketches, doodles and wips” to my galleries going forward would fix this issue and I would no longer get comments like “Glad to see you're still alive” lmao

Secondly I feel my perspective on how I run this as a business has changed. I started my Patreon as a way to simply give something back to people who want to support me. Nobody wants to be a charity. However I never anticipated just how reliant on this I would become, resulting In me focussing more on creating content for this platform instead of my public platforms. In a way it's been great for me. I have been financially stable plus artistically this is the most productive I have ever been. I was never really a “sketch every day” kind of artist but more and more I am becoming that and honing my skills at a fast pace because of it. However the only ones seeing this great change are those locked behind Patreon and I'm not sure I feel as comfortable with that as I once did.

I guess what i'm trying to say is, I'm just starting to feel scummy for running what has essentially become an annoying paywall. On my page description it reads “I think my artwork should be free for all!” and overtime I think I forgot that.

If people truly want to support me they will. Nobody should be forced to right?

Now I'm not saying I'm throwing my supporters benefits completely out the window. As mentioned earlier I am simply switching to a timed exclusive model. The plan being this Christmas 2019, I will release all of my previously locked content publicly. (Seems appropriate for a present to everyone) Probably re-arranging the archive to do so and sprinkling some of them out over time on my public galleries (twitter, FA, DA, etc) over time. Then starting 2020 I will do the same thing every 4 months. (So 3 times a year). Example: For 4 months say, January through April, new sketches, doodles and w.i.p's will still be locked behind Patreon for my supporters to access however when May comes all the content made during those previous months will be released publicly in the same way!

Content distribution will work the same as always. VIP $5+ supporters get to see the goods!


Speaking of the Discord server. It will remain Patreon only as I'm not comfortable with the thought of randoms joining. I enjoy the community vibe my server has and I plan on keeping it that way.

As for other, alternative rewards I am thinking of finally introducing polls! Allowing patrons to submit ideas for future sketches and doodles involving my characters then holding a poll where you can vote for the best idea! (Actually voting may be exclusive for $5+ patrons only but I am undecided on that) If I really get the ball rolling I may even consider a sketch commission raffle in the future but lets not get too ahead of ourselves =w=''

I hope you guys are okay with this decision as I know for some of you, having access to these “secret SFJR drawings” is why you're supporting me in the first place but I hope you can see it from my perspective. This is better for everyone.

So yeah TLDR:

Switching to timed content instead of Full paywall starting 2020 and polls being implemented soon!

I want to thank everyone who has supported me so far, even through the rocky months and those who will continue to support me in the future! It's honestly been really fulfilling knowing there are people out there willing to support what I do financially. (I mean it's basically “THE DREAM” for an artist) and I can't be thankful enough for it! Seriously it means so much! ;w;
