“GTI”

The 1983 Golf GTI (Gran Turismo Injection) is the final model year of the Mk1 Golf GTI that was available in North America as the Rabbit GTI. It was replaced in 1984 by the Mk2 GTI. Often credited for pioneering the hot hatch, the GTI combined a lightweight two-door Golf body with a zippy 1.8 liter with fuel injection. From the outside, the GTI was recognized by a chin spoiler, front grille with red accents and plastic over fenders. Its interior has a tartan upholstery[1] and a golf ball shaped shift lever. Many of its styling elements can also be found in newer GTI models.
