Heath truly loved his wife so of course he jumped at the chance to help their marriage with couples counseling. He didn't quite imagine it would be such a big presence in their life. Dr. Riesin was an imposing and strict therapist, and that was before acknowledging the woman was huge! The therapist explained that every couple could benefit from a "tune up" every once and a while and communication was often at its core.

For instance Dr. Riesin asked, perhaps a bit too casually, you've noticed your wife has been working out, haven't you? Don't you think she'd appreciate your compliments--don't you think she'd blossom under your praise?

In truth Heath hadn't thought much of it, she'd asked for some of his old weights be moved into the garage. Maybe some words of encouragement would bridge their communication gap, heck he could even give her some pointers next time they had some free time.

That's wonderful the amazonian therapist cooed why don't you tell me if you notice any improvements in your home life after complimenting your wife three times a day? And then she turned to Heath's wife: As for you, you need to speak up, let your husband know when you need something--give him the chance to support your growth...as a person and couple I mean.

With a smile and wave, their time was up, and Heath was left scratching his head. Was that really all it took for a successful marriage: encouragement and being open about your needs? Didn't seem like too big a task!
