Sales Tax Update - Please Read (Patreon)

Hey all,

I wanted to give a heads up on some changes in tax laws that might affect some of your pledges. Because of new laws in some US states, and in other countries, Patreon is legally obligated to start charging sales tax in those areas, starting on July 1st. 

This won't affect everyone, and for those who are affected - the amount should be pretty small - The percentages will reflect your normal sales tax rates in your area.

I was recently notified of this, and I’m working very closely with Patreon to make sure I’m getting taxable benefit value as low as I can, and finding every way possible to minimize these taxes.

Here's some more info that was provided by Patreon for me to share:

"Whether or not you will be charged sales tax depends on your location, and what  is considered taxable there. Not every pledge is taxable, not all benefits are taxable in every location, and sometimes only a fraction of a pledge will be taxable. The money that Patreon collects as a result of these laws are paid directly to local governments.

Just to be clear: This is all to adhere to tax laws of your individual governments. None of this has anything to do with me, or even with Patreon trying to charge extra, or anything like that. 

Again, this doesn't go into affect until July 1st, and won't affect everyone, but I wanted to make sure you were all aware ahead of time.
