For this Mystery Box I had an au'ra who I'd drawn before with long hair, so when I saw the short hair this idea came to mind instantly.

Part of it stemmed from a desire to draw something with a subtle dynamism. I really did think this would be easier than it truly ended up being! Something about it being a fairly static pose, yet needing to imply velocity really drove me to a wall.

The other thought behind this idea is that I've always loved the symbolism of cutting one's hair off to signify a big change in your life. It's a powerful motif and working on this was pretty therapeutic.
