I see you didn't liked this ep so much, that's cool, I expected, atleast you were entertained as you put it, you got more jokes per minute than usual :)). You got valid criticisms, and I guess, watching SPN for so long, I was used to the season structure, where you get an overarching storyline, and you also get motw eps, so the fact that this obvious backdoor pilot intrerupted the rhytm of the overarching story didn't bothered me as much as it did you guys. The stuff with Claire and Kaya's characters, I didn't looked at them trying to make Claire look badass, but her thinking she's unstoppable and inevitable getting reckless, but ultimately learning from that, could've they directed it less ackward? yeah sure. And Kaya, I wasn't as big into her like you guys, probably because she was newer, and her death didn't seemed as shocking to me because she kind of foreshadowed that when she talked about her dream walking into this place, like waking up with all those scratches, barely getting out alive, I don't know. Anyway, I would've like to see it get picked up and see what they could've done, but oh well. There will be though a Part 2 to this in the future, trying to wrap up the stories, and the part 2 is good too, maybe because I know how it all goes, this one doesn't bothers me as much. One little tidbit from the beginning of the ep., the phonecall with Jodi & Claire was a nod to Sam & Dean's scene in the SPM Pilot: "it's Dad... he went on a hunting and he hasn't been home in a few days". One last thing, you asked "what's your favorite backdoor pilot" and John threw out "The Originals" that he read from that list. That ep. is exactly what you said makes a good backdoor pilot, it took some well established character and used to introduce this brand new characters and world, that where similar to the original show yet felt like a fresh new air, that episode was also embarrassingly way better than anything from that season, and say what you will about Vampire Diaries, but the best thing that came out of that show was the Originals Family and gave birth to the show that was way better than it's predecessor. And I'm still upset that show and a character like Klaus Mikaelson is SO underappreciated because it got associated with the teen drama label from TVD!

Yeah, I remember initially just being really disappointed that the Wayward Sisters didn't get picked up because I wanted a female-driven show in the SPN universe, but watching it back again (this is only my second, maybe 3rd time since it aired) I realize how problematic it really is. They took characters that (most of them) had been developed on the show for years and made them sound suuuuper generic. Greg put it well when he said "this looks/sounds like a bunch of dudes wrote a script asking themselves 'how do we make girls look badass" and then just like, gave them a bunch of guns and shitty one-liners. The scene where Jody, a trained police officer, jumps on top of a desk and empties a clip into a monster... UGH. And I thought it was actually very interesting that you guys immediately picked up on the Claire-Kaia romance thing because (as a part-gay woman myself) never saw that chemistry/connection between them, and even after *knowing* that's where the story was going, could NOT see any romantic chemistry between them this time around either. For Jody to then be like "*sigh* yeah, you never forget your first love..." like...they knew each other for like 12 hours??? And had no moment on screen where they were significantly bonding. They had a conversation like "oh I got this scar from here and this scar from there" and then "hey, woah, I guess I don't actually want to die, weird" and that was it! Aaaaanyway. Yeah, if the spin-off was gonna be anything like THIS pilot, it's a blessing in disguise that it didn't get picked up.
