Daryl

I do love both the inclusion of Dan and Karvanista. Probably my favourite new characters in Who for a long while. John Bishop, who came to stand up comedy later in life, then moved into acting as well. Sorta seems like he's bringing a real world feel to his performance. The honed comedic delivery required to give that, 'pulled off the street talent' that you described, is more indicative of someone one knows their craft. Where as Mandip has had her moments, when given the material. It feels like someone like Bishop is better skilled to shape the provided material to their strengths. I'm glad Mandip stayed, but I have rarely felt she has lived up to the calibre of Billie, Freema, Catherine, Karen, Jenna or Pearl. There is so much that feels improved in this series. The ending, albeit part 2 of 6, does have that slight classic Chibs element that, 'I'd have done that differently'. I won't criticise the probic vent, as that was established in Classic with the 3rd Doctor. Another new extreme point of convenience, for an army framed as a great strategic force. In that they all recharge at the same time, rather than on shifts. We maybe should be hanging a lantern on that moment a little more forcefully. The Doctor has a line which is skipped over with more ease than the situation demands. Perhaps it would have been better to flag the moment with some comedy. To see them acknowledging that lantern swinging in the wind. That's my biggest gripe. It's there because it needs to be, because the constructed narrative wasn't sophisticated enough not to required it. Which is fine. But make us aware you are fully aware of how monumentally stupid it is. I'd be happy with that approach.
