You are possibly thinking of the before the flood episode with Peter Capaldi in season 9 mainly because you mentioned a lot of water and an open field and that two parter fits that description and the bad guy is the Fischer king which is a tall bastard 😂 (which if you remember it’s screams where actually done by Corey Taylor from Slipknot)

Also as for the ratings it’s my opinion that you will likely find that they are low even if it’s a good episode as a lot of this era gets unjust treatment and also some episodes got review bombed (not by the same amount as massive movies etc) but there was still a considerable portion that would actively give low ratings/bash it as a dislike of Jodies Doctor which is very unfortunate but much like the 6th and seventh doctors I feel like in time people will look back at this era with a bit more love and similarly I feel like big finish stories will help out in the long run.

Also funny you mention the doctors get a choice with their wardrobe, Jodie specifically went with hers as it was the most gender neutral option which meant that it makes it easier for anyone to cosplay as her doctor 👌

I feel like for this episode everything is great. Then it reaches that 50/50 with the frog XD

Logan

I definitely think this episode characterized Jodie as The Doctor very well.

Like the last episode, I give this one a 14/20. I really like the ideas and the approach to a large percentage of the episode. Some of it hits really well before and even after the frog. Which unfortunately lost me and jarred me out of the story. It was a writing choice I wouldn't have taken myself. A missed opportunity perhaps, to have one or two of the companions shine even more. But as this era embodies the importance of The Doctor taking central focus, maybe emulating classic a bit more. I agree the frog inclusion is a little whovian and certainly wacky. I couldn't help but conclude that it felt one step too wacky for what the moment had emotionally built to. I'd be very open to hearing some discussion on the frog. From those that rate this episode higher than I can. I've never been able to reason out the choice myself. I was close to giving a higher score with this one.

I agree they do get a lot of unjust reviews. I don’t care much for her first season but I love her second season to no end and it feels like people kept lobbying the same old tired complaints they had with season 1 at season 2 even though those complaints no longer applied.

I like exactly 3 episodes with of this Doctor (nothing against her, actually love the idea of a woman doctor and LOVE Jodie [especially in Broadchurch], but boy do i hate Chibnill storytelling!). I love "The Ghost Monument", "Rosa" and "The Power Of The Doctor" (Her last episode). After "Rosa" it started going down for me, but this is precisely the episode i gave up on Chibnill's Doctor Who. After this episode i stopped watching the day the episode came out and waited for the entire "season" to come out to watch together. I got really surprised you guys liked, was actually watching hoping you would criticize the episode, haha. But i'm happy that you liked, more good Jodie for you, haha

But, to be fair, Greg actually read the opinions of people... It's fair not to like... The problem with review bombing is zeroes and tens... IDK, for me, this is a 6/10 episode, and, in MY High School, that was a passing grade, haha

hi guys! i'm finally giving in and catching up on your watch through of 13 before the episodes drop. doubtful anyone will read my comment 5 months later but anyways. this is actually one of my favourite CONCEPTS in the chibnall era but unfortunately the execution was, well, chibnalled and then brought down by some performances that took me out of the story a bit. still one of the best chibnall era episodes, i think, though it does include perhaps my least favourite line uttered by the doctor: "it's really big and incredibly beautiful." yes, that is what made me wanna write this comment because jesus christ that line itself could be the only evidence needed to showcase why it's clear chibnall has no idea who the doctor is. i could write a bloody essay on that single line. but i won't. still loving your reactions and am glad to see you guys enjoying the series more than most!
