The lovely Elizabeth Henstridge directs the next episode. You now know the feeling that AOS fans have whenever Nathaniel Malick appears. Just utter disgust. Yo-Yo in the comics never loses her power to bounce back but I like that she did here for a final season character growth. Her cousin Francisco makes another appearance after only appearing in Yo-Yo's debut episode. Also, her grandmother's necklace is an essential item for season 3 so it seems destined that she was supposed to take it. The actor that plays Li is Byron Mann. He played Ryu in the 1994 Street Fighter movie. Him and Ming-Na Wen with the Street Fighter reunion this episode. Also, the actress that plays Kora, Dianne Doan, was in a Disney movie called Descendants with fellow AOS alumni Dove Cameron (Ruby). She played Mulan's daughter in that movie and now she is acting with the voice of Mulan.

Great insight on Yoyo journey this episode. I love the callback to the necklace as well. Remember the death hot potato of season 3 that ended with lincoln sacrifice. We get to see the origin of how elena got that necklace. Elena never got trained when she first got her powers so she always assumed bouncing back was apart of it (because subconsciously she would bounce back to that closet out of danger) Jiaying and May helped her unlock all the emotional trauma elena buries behind her tough personality. Her fear of the shrike because of Keller death in season 6 is what caused her not to dodge in the season 6 finale(which many fans complained about when it happened.) Her saving flint in season 5 caused the death of Tess which we still weighs on her and of course killing ruby still is in the back of her mind. Now we also get a big reveal that Kora is Jiaying's daughter aka Daisy's half sister. It makes sense that jiaying as old as she is would have more than one child and this episode also tells us why afterlife was what it was in season 2. The first thing she told daisy to do is hide their relationship as mother and daughter from others so it is not surprising that she did the same to Cal and daisy about kora. Especially when she caused kora to commit suicide with her methods and all the people in afterlife would know she has is conflicted when it involves her kids. Here we see that they keep inhumans here against their will but in the future they are less strict and Inhumans can come and go as they please once they have a hold of their powers. Though jiaying still worried when daisy left afterlife with cal. Kora's death sparked a change in how they handle powerful inhumans (based on what lee implied they kill the ones that can't control themselves) and if you noticed where she would have died in our original timeline that field is covered in daisies which is why daisy got her name. Jiaying made cal promise to protect daisy and now we know why. Coulson is reflecting on who he is now and how his feelings are not even real. He feels thirsty but did not have a stomach when he was max headroom so he realizes what he truly is. A robot. Not human. I love how we are revisiting villains before they are villains and exploring why they became villains a bit more. Simmons message to Fitz is heartbreaking and she says she does not know why they lost contact after the save at izel temple so that is worrying. Next episode is top tier.

I think it’s interesting that both of Jiaying’s children have elemental powers, fire/plasma and earthquakes as opposed to life absorption. The mother draws power away from people whereas the children draw power from the Earth. Now I am not a fan of the Yo-Yo repressed memory storyline. It just feels like an excuse to save budget on effects for half the season by not making her run. Also, with this new information, we learn she could have just been a speedster instead of returning to one spot this whole time. Retroactively, I think it causes issues that could have been solved much easier if she just went to therapy.

I agree with you, and would even go further to say that the overall MCU's move towards Multiverse and Variants and Incursions and all that actually elevates this final 7th season of AoS a whole bunch, somehow justifying or redeeming it a bit, I guess. It's been a whole heap of fun rewatching this with you!

I think most TV show's premises could be solved much easier if the main characters just went to therapy (or already knew how to communicate productively). 😅

Calculatus Eliminatus

I cannot imagine a better directorial debut than the next episode. For a show that has been full of fantastic episodes the next one really stands out.

UGH i remember when malick showed up i was like "WTF IS HE WEARING?!" i was just so mad he showed up. he's so great at being a hated character. and i feel bad cause you see him on elizabeth henstridge's youtube season 7 watchalong and he seems like such a nice, humble guy LOL. i second everyone's sentiments on next week's episode. it's pretty much my favorite episode of the series. i think i say this because i always think about it whenever i watch this show. even with season 4 and the framework there's a chunk of episodes combined that make it stellar television. next episode alone is chef's kiss.

It's an interesting concept or thought with the whole needing to rely on someone you normally wouldn't think you'd need. God works in mysterious ways. You never know where your help will come from. Sometimes you do. Sometimes you don't.

I'm so excited for next weeks episode!!

John Wedig

You got it right the first time, it's pronounced "Wed-ig". And like everyone else is saying next week's episode is a good one! That said, I'm really looking forward to the episode after next, too, since (if I'm not mistaken) it introduces us to one of my favorite performances of the season. So buckle up, because you've got quite a ride ahead of you!
