I love this episode SO MUCH

I really like this one! My parents used to record Classic Who episodes from the television onto cassette tapes (yeah, sound only) so when my sister and I found the tapes in early elementary school we could listen to them over and over imagining all the stuff we couldn't see. Needless to say, the ease of accessing Doctor Who now is fantastic and we've been filling in the gaps we missed with One, Two, and Three, so when Capaldi showed up with episodes like this... he feels so much like the Doctor we grew up with... including the jelly babies. :)

Oh, I wish!!! They had quite a collection of Tom Baker's run. I think we wore out the "Invasion of the Dinosaurs" cassette. :) My parents both were Midwesterners in the US. We only had what they could find on PBS, usually during the telethons, and even then sometimes not the full serial. Good news is that they started using the VCR around Logopolis/Castrovalva (the first episodes I actually saw, hehe).

Such a good episode, I actually use it at times to introduce new people to WHO (got tired of watching "Blink' all the time). A bit of sci fi with a little horror which is some of my favorite Doctor Who episodes. So glad the guys liked it too.

Ah, desperately searching for something to distract me and this is what I needed. This episode ages so well. It's when I started to appreciate the contrast between 11 and 12, with 11 having this friendly, young façade to hide his dark, world-weary self running away from his War Doctor past, and 12 being the raw, stripped down version of the doctor finally having to face that part of himself. Clara's whole deal has so many parallels: like the doctor, her arrogance and wanderlust clash with her humanity, but unlike the doctor she's in denial of the darker part of her nature. love a doctor/companion dynamic that has more depth than just good chemistry and hijinks

Logopolis Being Toms last episode if I remember correctly? You must have started around the same time as my mum as she started around Peters time and is still watching it now (albeit they haven’t watched season 12 onwards yet so I’m still trying to convince them, I think once the new doctor arrives my mum and dad will binge the rest of Jodie to get caught up hopefully) I’m currently watching through Classic Who on Britbox so I’ve seen all of the remaining 1st and 2nd Doctor stories (currently on part 6 of the war games so got 4 more and then I’m on Pertwee and in colour tv 😂👌) but it’s such a shame there’s so many missing especially with 2 as I would have loved seeing the highlanders and the Yeti episodes etc and Marco Polo for the first Doctor sounds like it was fantastic by all accounts of people who watched it when it aired

Sorry by the way, it’s rare I get to talk classic who on here unless it’s part of the facts so I’m excited someone else has seen some 😂👌

Jillian Storm

Yes, you're correct! Logopolis was the last of Four/Tom. I do claim Davison as "my Doctor" since I saw him first... and have had a childhood fear of either falling from great heights or being miniaturized thanks to Logopolis. I was 9-ish when Classic Who ended--I spent 1989 NYE watching my final McCoy episodes with my grandparents. I love getting to talk about Classic Who too!! So count me in. Although, I genuinely enjoy folks meeting the Doctor in recent years. Thanks for mentioning Britbox has the episodes for 1 & 2. I think we're on a bit of a River Song timeline catching up on the classic episodes. I've been going the other way around, I started by properly watching Four, then Three --now into Two (Troughton is so charming) with a handful of 1st. I haven't fully experienced the sadness of the lost episodes but I know I'll reach it soon. I really liked Pertwee's episodes and became a huge fan of UNIT (Benton <3) & the Brigadier--enjoy! My parents had exactly one single episode of Pertwee on VHS--my sister and I were always trying to figure out which it was so we could see the rest of it. I took a pause after Capaldi (losing Davison and Capaldi were my saddest), but I've been binging Jodie and got all caught up! Your mum can totally do it too!! :) On balance, my sister adores Jodie. To be continued! (p.s. I'll say again, I really enjoy your facts!)

Jillian Storm

My parents would buy the Target books too. Sometimes I'm a little mixed up on if I saw the episodes as a kid or read the book. 😂

One hundred percent agree with 2 he’s so damn likeable (I think he’s a lot like 11 too which helps) I’ll not talk about 1 or 2 that much then because Spoilers 😜 At this point I’ve met the Brigadier as he first appears in the web of fear I think it’s called (it’s the one with Yetis and the great intelligence in the London Underground) and has made appearances after that but I know that he starts playing a massive part with 3 onwards and I’m looking forward to that, also looking forward to the Doctor/Sarah/ Harry combo as I’ve heard it’s on par with Jamie and Zoe who I think are up there in terms of best companions, speaking of Jamie Yaz has just broken his record of longest serving companion in terms of time on the show which is mental 👀. I know I’m probably gonna cry now though when I get to the episode where the Doctor finds out the Brigadier has passed once I’ve caught up with classic Who, although I must say Kate Stewart is definitely a worthy successor 👌 and yeah losing Capaldi was heartbreaking and I cried far too much at his last episode for a multitude of reasons which I’ll go into when we get there in like October 👌 as a kid I got the doctor who magazine every new issue and my entire room was covered in the posters from the magazines so I’m with you there 😂 and speaking of books have you read any of the big finish Who stories? I really want to start them but don’t know where to start.

Rosie Batey(DarthYoda066)

Also without spoiling anything how excited are you for Ace and Tegan returning cos I’m very excited 😂 particularly Ace cos she gets to hit a Dalek with a baseball bat again 😂

Also have you joined the Discord for the Reel Rejects Patreon yet? Just cos we can continue the conversation better on the Doctor Who thread and it makes it easier to respond 👌

Jillian Storm

Oh! Thanks for suggesting Discord. I just hopped in (Adelphi_99). I've gotta clock some hours to pay the bills, but I'll definitely want to reply to everything you just said!! :D

Love this one! And Clara’s “I love you” was confirmed as being to the Doctor 😃😃

I’m so glad you guys appreciate Clara 🙌🏻 She’s great because she’s imperfect and complex and doesn’t always make the best decisions. And I think she’s a great companion to be alongside twelve as he discovers himself.
