Aang was grieving the loss of the air nomads, the people he grew up with and his culture :)

The parallels to the Empire Strikes Back in this finale 👌

SPOILER ALERT!!!!! Not really sure if this is a spoiler but just in case, judging by their discussion at the end, I think its safe to assume they don't know about legend of korra, or the atla comics, would be really excited for them to react to korra but not sure when a good time for them to find out about it is, any suggestions?

Lol Aang did die. Luckily Katara is a badass and didn't waste her spirit water!

“The air nomads love for you has not left this world. It is still inside of your heart and is reborn in the form of new love.” One of my favorite quotes from the series! You are definitely supposed to be disappointed in Zuko, but keep in mind Zuko has been abused and manipulated basically his entire life. And he had spent so much time and energy trying to regain the love of his father and his honor... once it was dangled in front of him he couldn’t resist. He relapsed. Almost like an addict. But this past season hasn’t been a waste. Iroh got to him in some capacity, as shown by him feeling guilty/conflicted. And he was happy with his uncle, but the old ways are tempting and he went back to it. It’s frustrating sure, but the road to overcoming manipulation is not a linear journey sometimes. Glad you enjoyed (most) of the finale!

The first episode of season 3 has my favorite scene

Diana

The Empire Strikes Back of Avatar, in all the best ways. Azula's manipulation throughout both of these episodes, while awful, is beyond genius and enviable on some level. I personally felt that Zuko's slip up is very believable in the sense that while in Ba Sing Se, Iroh has been pushing/telling Zuko who he should be. Then, Azula came along and told him his life and choices are his own. She played that perfectly. The overly happy Zuko always makes me feel super uncomfortable. If we are talking extreme turn arounds, that felt more jarring, and less authentic, to me. I also adore the subversion of the, everyone just stands and watches the Avatar state take effect.

Love the reaction as always. For sure you have to stick around for Season 3 and hopefully Korra too. This is still my favourite season because we’re more invested in Zuko’s character development, then the hearbreak of Uncle Irohs tale, Jet’s demise and missing Appa it makes the betrayal even bitter. Ahh... the sweet essence of Zuzu disappointment. It’s how we ATLA fans sustain ourselves.

Two notes, Azula didn't have anything to do with what happened with Zuko's mom :P Not sure how we landed there and second, Zuko reluctantly gave up Appa that wasn't him choosing it but conceding to this new life. The scene with Iroh and Azula calling to both of Zuko's conflicting sides was foreshadowed by the dream sequence with the Red and Blue dragons which in the dream were voiced by Azula and Iroh respectively. When he woke up from that he was content with his new life but it still wasn't the life he wants or rather thinks he wants. At the end of the day, he wants to go home and he wants his fathers love. But we were all so pissed back in the day when Zuko made that turn! Season 3 is the shit!

I love your honesty, I felt the same at the end of the episode, felt sooo betrayed xD, I said I wouldn't forgive him, but by the end on season 3 I thought he was okay, i guess :D

I mean, it’s kind of like an addiction, right? Zuko is obsessed with his Honour, but he is still confused about what that even means. Even when he goes through a detox, when he shows signs of being better, he still falls back into that addiction of thinking he needs his father’s approval and love. I mean, it is insane that he thinks that, but that’s addiction, right?

I also think it’s ironic that Olivia argues against Zuko, but uses his style of argument to make a point 😂. “I am set in my ways and nothing can change my mind! Nothing!” How very Zuko of you 🤣.

Heru Muharrar

Tough episode. It's crazy how much Kylo Ren and Jamie Lannister tried to do what Zuko did but Avatar just did it so much better.

Bruh I don’t understand. Zuko’s only goal for the last three years has been to go home. Azula presented him an opportunity and he took it. Yeah he followed Iroh and probably had a good time too but that didn’t change what his core motivations were from literally the beginning of the show

Season 3 is soooooo worth it! Korra is also amazing, definitely watch that afterwards!

This finale was honestly the best of all three seasons imho. Season 3 finale is great for all the right reasons as a way to wrap up the show, but season 2 finale as a story is *chef's kiss* perfect. I highly recommend sticking through season 3. I don't know for sure if Zuko will win you back, that's up to you, but I remember feeling the same way. Zuko is a complex character and all he wants out of life is to be loved by his dad. In hindsight it's good that Zuko's redemption arc wasn't just chalked up to some fever dream and a pep talk from Iroh. He's gonna really earn it now. Enjoy season 3!

theGeekOutGirl

About Zuko, I think that after the fever dream he had, he was just pretending to be happy for Uncle's sake. Maybe he was even in denial believing that he was happy. However, he didn't really find closure. He didn't resolve his issues which still run deep. He was just pushing down all those feelings which can't be good in the long run. I think in order for Zuko to have an ending to his story arc, he'd need to face all the issues he has with his family. He obviously has daddy issues and now he's got issues with his uncle now too. Oh, and it doesn't help that Zuko seems to be a very easy person to manipulate, as you can see by his sister lol. But don't get me wrong, Zuko was horrible in this finale and he made horrible choices. No excuses. The disappointment in Uncle's eyes TT__TT

Iced Macchiato

I love your passion with the show and for me it shows how attach you've become with the characters. This is great! I love the reactions! I just think that sometimes it wouldn't hurt to take a step back and consider other people's opinions. Sometimes I find myself skipping the discussion because of the close-mindedness.

Tim Xi

Stick with your guns! If you like the Zuko twist, it’s a-okay! Don’t let someone else’s opinionated feelings change it! And for the record, nothing wrong with being opinionated; just sad when as the debate goes on, the non-opinionated person gets worn down by the other person not giving an inch.
