Yeah you go from a not excellent episode here to arguably the best or second best of New Who in next weeks episode (which I’ll say again as a reminder, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD CLICK OFF THE EPISODE IMMEDIATELY AFTER IT FINISHES, AS A HUGE SPOILER PREVIEW WILL PLAY BEFORE THE CREDITS SHOW) like you will see the doctor who logo pop up when the episode has finished as soon as you see that click the spacebar to exit like your life depends on it.

Not a big fan of this episode either. Lee Evans is fun but the Lady Christina character has never really clicked with me. I think the next episode is the best of this run of specials for me personally.

Yeah its not an episode many remember with fondness, everything you said was true about the episode! However next week is a masterpiece imo so im really excited for yous to see it

Yeah, I don't think you'll find too many people disagreeing with you about this one, it wasn't great. I enjoy Lee Evans, and there's a few fun moments, but it's not one I'd go out of my way to rewatch. I do think it's easily the weakest of these specials. At the risk of overhyping it though, I do 100% agree with the folks saying the next one is excellent!

In terms of the question are The Who specials meant to be “special?” The answer is a yes, but two very very different ones. Half the time the specials are big important episodes that drive things forward, the other half they are meant to be a big bowl of silly fun and be completely superfluous. These specific specials though are also in a weird place because from what I recall when these aired, it was like they wanted some extra episodes for Tennant after the fourth season to tide things over because there was a lot of behind the scenes change and the show would otherwise be taking a year off. So these specials are kind of a weird mix bag, like just an extra handful of episodes that also kind of make a mini season. It’s a weird time, plus this isn’t the first time you guys will experience something like this. In Capaldi’s run there was like almost a two year break between two of his seasons but they still filmed Christmas specials so you guys will get two in a row. This shows production schedule can be a little off at times to be sure. And yeah, most people as far as I’m aware just do not care for this episode and consider it some major filler.

Michelle Ryan got to reprise her role 9 years later a short-lived audio drama called Lady Christina. It chronicled her globetrotting, stealing, and meeting other Doctor Who characters like Sylvia Noble.

(Responding to your discussion about the specials) I really dont understand why people dislike the Titanic episode. I agree with you guys. It felt "special"

Nico Nightingale

I'm in the minority here it seems, but I actually quite enjoy this episode, it's a fun little story. Also I agree with you guys on the Titanic episode, I really liked that special, it's one of my favourites. The next special is regarded as one of the best stories though, looking forward to that reaction, whenever you guys are able to post it. :)

This episode was actually a deleted episode. It never aired on TV until years later when it was re-released on DVD & Streaming. Idk if you knew this, haven't watched the whole video yet lol

I'm not sure how y'all film the reactions, but Doctor Who is on HBO Max. If its possible to just watch it on there, you'll be able to watch the HD version. Again, not sure of any difficulties this could cause, but worth telling you guys.

Fair enough comments in your reaction. I think many would agree. I don't think there is any question of David not being into it - you'll see some brilliant performanes by him coming up - I think the writing was just a bit off. Maybe they focussed a little bit too much on the main concept (of having a bus in the desert, and doing it RL not just CGI), and didn't really think through what they were going to do with the plot! Maybe that affected the acting a bit? They were in a lot of physical discomfort a lot of the time. These 'specials' have a slightly strange status. They were more like Series 4.5. I can't remember what was going on BTS, but for whatever reason, they couldn't do a full season. Instead, they shot 4(?) longer episodes, and called them 'specials'. This one is very meh, the next one superb (you've already watched that one, so I don't need to worry about spoiling). "He will knock 4 times" is really chilling!

That would be helpful. I am barely functional with technology and I cannot find a version that syncs with theirs. I’ve tried Amazon and HBO Max and I spend the entire episode re-syncing.
