It's definitely pronounced eh-luh-JAI-uhk

Hmmm. I understand you saying that part of the "hero journey" is loss of a father figure, but Sam and Dean have already lost one father. They have also lost their mother and all of their friends. There are no other cast members left! I think killing off your entire supporting cast does not make for good TV. Even if it weren't for the popularity of Bobby, writing off yet another character reduces variety. We want to watch characters we care about other than just Sam and Dean! I think you misinterpreted that last scene in the car. Dean wasn't going through a medley of emotions. He was practising faking a smile. And also, it irritates me a bit that they let Krissy get away with claiming she saved Dean. Actually, she nearly killed him. He had everything under control until she came in, forcing him to put his knife down and let the vetala he was fighting get away. Unlike Sam, Dean knew there were two of them and was ready for it. Yes, Krissy then turned around and killed the vetala but it was not necessary in the first place. (p.s. updated my comment now that AdoptDontShopPets reminded me of all the correct names!)

I think Dean’s face at the very end was his reflection and remembrance of what Frank told him (Decide to be fine til the end of the week, then do it again, do it with a smile or don’t do it) during his confessional scene. I think I’m in the minority, but I love this episode. The loss of Bobby hangs over everything like a shroud of sadness. Edit: I think “elegiac” is pronounced uh-LEE-gee-ack. 🙃

I really enjoy this episode for all of the character dimensions too. Whenever I see the actress that played Krissy in different shows I always like her. It's always so hard seeing just how much Dean struggles in this season, and him practicing the smile at the end is such fantastic acting. Your shock and hope for Cas in the middle was really funny and such a relatable mood.

The final shots of Dean practicing his smile, breaks my heart every time. Kudos to Jensen’s superb acting there. With his first attempt at a smile, he has tears in his eyes, but by the last shot he manages to get the smile to reach his eyes as well.

AdoptDontShopPets

I agree. I think Dean would have managed to kill the vetala on his own and Krissy made it more difficult.

Toasted Toad

You reckon? I thought he had made a better attempt by the end, but I still didn't see it reaching his eyes. Maybe we've forgotten what poor Dean's smile looks like :(

So I just watched the doctor who reaction to the fires of Pompeii episode and and just wanted to say that Jared Padelecki also did latin at high school to help hi pass his exams, little did he know how often he would use it in his career. Also, just watched an old reaction to a video of scenes where actors weren't acting and just wanted to say that the supernatural entry that you skipped is from bad day at black rock (the rabbits foot episode) so you wouldn't've had spoilers for anything. It was the overexaggerated "SON OF A B*TCH!!" Dean does at the end of the episode.

I definitely think that this half of season seven has more great episodes then the first half! I love the emotion in this one!

Diana

I actually see that scene a bit differently. Yes Dean is a fantastic hunter, but logistically the situation was still two monsters vs one hunter. Add onto that two hostages. I see Krissy's run into the situation as a way to divert attention away from possibly hurting Sam or her dad. Then when Dean leads the vetala's to believe she has no idea what she is doing, she was able to surprise the one holding her and was able to kill her. But that is just my personal take.

Toasted Toad

Krissie started by almost causing Deans death. She forces him to stop fighting and render himself defenceless. That is not ‘helping’

Diana

I guess I just figured if she didn't run in and draw the attention of everyone in the room, the odds of the second vetala killing Sam or her dad was higher. whereas, making herself the Vetala's focus, paired with Dean's whole "she's just a child" speech, gave her the opportunity to turn the tables. Besides, both monsters did die, and none of the four of them died, so yes it did work in the end. Like I said in the end of my comment, this is just how my brain makes sense of the situation.

I'm literally watching this episode on the date 7/11. Weird coincidence lol
