I usually HATE this trope when shows have a hot season and after a few episodes of all action and tension, they cut the tension with a flashback episode, and I'm like "I don't f**kin' care to see this character's tragic past now, I wanna know what happens after that last damn cliffhanger you left us on!!", but this episode struck different for me, not only it makes sense within the structure of the season, but also my jaw hurts after all this weeks of owe, every episode was action-action-intrigue-intrigue-action-action, to have a much "slow" episode yet still keep me glued to my screen is a testament to this show's genius! Also, I'm always set off by shows or films using heavy political storylines, but this show does such a good job with this Eldian-Marley storyline, not to be all in your face, like yeah it obviously borrows from real life history, but the story is more "show don't tell", which is the thing that annoys me most about surten network shows that are more "loud" about the socio-political issues that they are using in their stories. And yeah, dito! Don't trust Zeke either, I loved Erwin and I love Levi and can't just belive anything Zeke says, and I don't belive the show wants us to belive that either, I think they are doing a good job having Eren on one side of the scale and Levi on the other to keep us wonder what will happen!

Finally cought up with your reactions , Greg. I gotta say i really like the direction this final season went, especially from character and storytelling perspective. I just love how scary Eren now seems due to his calmness and coldness and especially how brutal he can be . In a way hes being painted as an actual bad guy which is just fantastic , not a lot of shows , especially shounen go for that specific direction . I just like how conflicted i am with both sides. And you can also see young Eren in Gabi, her just intense hatred for Eren and Paradise Island Eldians. Its fantastic juxtaposition . For this episode specifically i loved how petty and distrusting Levi was lol. And just whole Armin questioning Eren and talking to Annie was great too. Overall i really like the show , especially how it makes the conflict not so one sided and making question our protagionists. Its just , the calm , more personal scenes are fantastically directed and animated. My biggest issue is with the action direction and use of CGI . CGi seems a bit overused and some of the action direction does not seem to make an impact . And the new animation studio, mappa is doing fantastic job , despite big scale and lots of action and short time frame . Its just a bit jarring , and i miss the aesthetic and action set pieces of Studio Wit . The characters and the overall storytelling is what keeps me engaged

About Reiner, him being unstable and suicidal is probably why Zeke didn't pick Reiner as an ally in this plan. From the info we've got so far this season, you can somewhat assume that the whole ordeal with Paradis was his own idea and no one in Marley knew a thing. To let someone like Reiner in on the scheme could have been a huge mistake on Zeke's part since Reiner is very unpredictable due to his split personality. Also, as usual, Zeke's plan will become much clearer in future episodes.
