This episode is very representative of season 7, the whole season is very weirdly paced but also very gripping. It’s also very horror/gore heavy but also extremely campy, it’s one of if not the funniest seasons in the series

Agree with a lot of your comments. It's a great fun episode, with some whackiness thrown in. That whole scene with Death is just fab. I love that they cut from Dean being threatened with a gun to Dean tying the couple up. We didn't need to see a fight between Dean and a middle aged couple. That cut just said "Dean knows his shit - The End".  So sad that it was Sam who reached out to Cas and not Dean - but then, Dean and Cas were closer, so Dean has been hurt a lot more.. This is like Cas & Dean: The Breakup - Part 2. Dean acts like he doesn't care, and refuses to forgive Cas,  but when he thinks Cas is dead, he's really upset. I think you're right that they could have taken several episodes to achieve the same kind of thing, and Season 7 would have been a whole helluva lot better if that had been the direction they had gone. *sigh*. Probably others will tell you, but Misha was sick as a dog when filming this episode. In that last scene, unless you can actually see Misha's face, it probably wasn't him, it was a double.

Gamble went over budget in S6, and Singer signed back on full time to keep that in check. I've often wondered how much of an effect it had on this season (beyond the obvious), and your commentary on the pacing actually answers that. I don't think it's a spoiler to say that this entire season is somewhat experimental with a lot of camp. I just realized that given what we are going through in the world right now...this season is really going to be a fun ride with you!

I think it made perfect sense to have Sam pray to Cass. After all, it wasn't just about who said the prayer...it's about what was said in the prayer. But I can't blame anyone for seeing it through their preferred lenses for fun (hello...we all do that). It's just not what the writers had in mind for that particular scene.

Toasted Toad

I didn't say it didn't make sense. It totally did. It was just sad that it was not Dean as it said a lot about where his mind was at.

Liked this episode, but I personally do not think this is a great season. Cass is so cheesy here

Season 7 is actually my favorite season! I love the juvenile humor and the big bad is fully well rounded as a character, which I fully appreciate. Hopefully you will think so too the further into the season you get.

As much as I do think seasons 4 and 5 connected are two of the best overall, I really respect every era/additional season with all their differences in expanding the world from what is started out with in the first episode. I really appreciate that season 6 ended on that unique note with Cas, leaving questions about how this season would expand from there.

I am super late joining the conversation team, so I’m not sure you guys will even see my comment at this point, but it’s always worth a shot! I wanted to start off by saying that I have a Patreon solely to follow the Rejects I love you guys so much! I am a HUGE fan of Supernatural! I even have an anti possession tattoo and my little boy’s middle name is Dean! 😅😅 I have followed it loyally throughout the entirety of the series, but as an avid fan, I will say that, of course, not every season hit their mark and for me this was one of them. Usually I just enjoy the content without commenting, but after watching your reaction to the Season 7 premier I had to take the time to tell you both that you have given me a new perspective on season 7 so far! This was always one of those seasons that I felt there was never the need to go back and rewatch but I THOROUGHLY enjoyed going down memory lane with the two of you! Your perceptions of Cas and Sam and even your takeaway that you had fun with the season premier had me looking forward to pressing play on the next episode! Thank you so much for going on this journey with us all and allowing us super fans to take part in your joy, heartbreak and often surprise that is the world of Supernatural!
