I haven’t watched the full length yet, so forgive me if you touch on certain things during the episode you didn’t in the discussion portion. I think sometimes it’s good to view some of these episodes through the lens of “what would a child learn from this?” For me, the message was: Selfishly keeping information from those close to you can break trust. And that it is necessary to admit when you are wrong and to apologize. And on the flip side, it teaches kids to see to see the other person’s perspective of why they lied and it can be good to forgive. Like how Sokka learned how wolves suffer when separated from the pack, like how he felt when the older men left the water tribe. He knew Aang was lonely and probably afraid. And he was mature enough to know that it’s important for the fate of the world that they reunite with Aang and finish the journey. As for Aang, there’s no excuse for what he did, but I think his actions came from his fear of abandonment. This 12-year-old is still learning to cope with the genocide of his entire culture and people. Obviously, it was childish and selfish, but he ultimately experienced growth because of it when he finally apologized. And he made up for it, by returning Katara’s necklace to her. (It was special because it belonged to her mother, who was killed by the fire nation.) In my opinion, I don’t see this as a filler episode because several characters have personal development. Greg you mentioned some things too, like Sokka’s leadership skills, etc. And the bond between Aang and Katara is strengthening. I like that you guys are honest in your reviews! This series is amazing, but it’s definitely not without some flaws here and there. Excited for more!

Yeah you notice Zuko and Iroh only hunt the Avatar. They don’t partake in the war or punishing anyone. Zukos sole drive is only to capture Aang and even then Iroh doesn’t join in the fights.

You make very solid points Aang! And I also really do love the point you make about Aang possibly having abandonment issues - I never drew that correlation however from a psychological point that makes perfect sense! And yeah, we do love watching the series, even if we criticize some things here or there, it's still wildly enjoyable. And I Feel it ramping up to something truly gripping
