My comment keeps getting erased, not sure if it's a glitch, but let me try posting again! This episode really kicks things into high gear! I get chills every time Uncle Iroh reveals that it was the Fire Lord that Zuko would have to duel. And it makes me so sad that Aang never got to see Monk Gyatso again. Just a small correction so you don't get confused later on... If Aang had died when the fire nation wiped out the air nomads, yes the avatar spirit would have been reborn--but not into another airbender. The rebirth follows the Avatar cycle: Fire, Air, Water, Earth. I interpreted Katara's message to be that if Aang himself had died it would have been too soon and he would have never fulfilled his purpose. Glad you loved the episode!

Plus when you think about it if Aang had died then the new water bender avatar would be a newborn baby when the war broke out so they would be growing up in war time for 16 years until they were ready to learn the other bending styles, which is a lot of time for the fire nation to hunt down and either kill or steal the avatar for themselves which would have a lot more disastrous consequences than what happened here with Aang
