I don't understand why anybody thinks it was wrong for Katara to steal the scroll. Why should the pirates make money for something they stole? It belongs to Katara more than it does to them, at least she's a water bender. I'm sure the original owner of the scroll would prefer she have it than those pirates who stole it from them. Plus Aang is the Avatar and she's his friend and they're on a quest to save the world. More important than some pirates making money.
